Xolo XA is aged for 5 years in American Oak barrels in the Highlands of Jalisco at Hacienda Capellania NOM1545. All Xolo expressions come in at 46% ABV / 92 proof in a 1-liter bottle. Xolo is meant to be shared. Let’s dig in. - Like many of the aged Highland tequilas, I get a lot of fruit on the nose. There’s a mix of peaches, cherries, plums, and nectarines (stone fruits). I also detect cooked agave, light brown sugar, and some slight barrel spices. Overall it’s a very balanced aroma with the fruit being the most prevalent note. — I taste the buttery cooked agave and some barrel notes immediately. There’s spice that hits right away thanks to the 92 proof. The barrel notes are dark and dense. There are hints of molasses, black cherries, raw honey, figs, leather, and black pepper. There’s a dry tannic quality that I commonly get from tequilas that are aged in American oak barrels (ex-bourbon). The higher proof helps to deliver a pleasant density of flavors and a nice long finish. The sweetness and proof interacts nicely. It’s a very pleasant sipper. - Overall the nose is fruity and juicy while the taste is denser and darker with a little bit of alcohol proof that delivers some spiciness. This is an excellent Highland XA! Great job Ernesto!

Nose: Creamy cooked agave that’s slightly buttery, soft floral notes, bright citrus, sweet peppers and cracked white pepper all riding on some sweet but slight alcohol vapors. - Taste: First Sip - Sweet cooked agave, vegetal notes, slight citrus and then bright white pepper with a long cinnamon finish. Subsequent sips: Natural sweetness from cooked mature agaves, Earthy green vegetal notes, bell peppers and jalapeños. Bright citrus rind and fresh cracked white pepper. There’s a buttery and oily mouthfeel. The finish is pleasantly peppery. - It’s a fun sipping blanco and it’s meant to share. 1 Liter - 46%ABV 92 proof

This Añejo has been aged in Anerican White Oak (ex-bourbon) barrels for 18 months. As with all Xolo expressions this Añejo is 46% ABV - 92 proof and comes in a 1 liter bottle. - Right away I can smell the bourbon barrel notes sitting on top off of some cooked agave. There some agave sweetness and then the barrel notes kick in. It’s cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and cracked black pepper. There some notes of dried fruit and barrel char. It’s an aromatic nose that’s part sweet and part spicy. - On the first sip it’s nice and spicy with some pleasant sweetness. There are dense flavors of buttery cooked agave, leather, molasses and dark chocolate with a hint of bitters. There’s an earthy note akin to chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. The barrel provides a spicy and slightly dry finish. The sweetness and dry barrel notes linger nicely. - Overall this Añejo is amazing. The cooked agave is still very present while the barrel imparts a lot of additional flavors. It’s the perfect mix of agave, barrel influence and proof. The higher proof adds a nice kick and keeps the flavors bright and dense. This is an excellent Highland Añejo! Great job Ernesto!

Xolo Repo is aged for a minimum of 3 months in an American oak pipon barrel. The nose is nice. The vegetal agave punches through but it brings some light barrel spices with it. There’s still some sweetness and just a tad of alcohol vapors. The oak pipon gives it some caramel and natural vanilla scents but they are subtle. The cooked agave and vegetal earthiness from the blanco still shine through. Like all Xolo expressions, this Repo comes in a 1 liter bottle and it’s 46% ABV - 92 proof. - Xolo Repo is the type of Reposado that I enjoy the most. The agave is still front and center. The main characteristics of the blanco are still intact but they are slightly muted by some additional flavors. The oak adds some additional sweetness and spices. There’s some cinnamon and light caramel along with a touch of capsaicins. - The finish is sweet and spicy. The agave sweetness and barrels spices linger on the palate with the spice ultimately lasting linger. This is an excellent Highland Reposado! Great job Ernesto!

Tasted at LATF. Light and approachable Reposado, a bit on the sweet side.
