Nice nose of cooked agave. This is herbal and vegetal. I get licorice, green apple and orange. A bit of alcohol. On the palate, it is a delicious sip. Still get all of those earthy notes. Grass, vegetal, rosemary, jalapeño. Get some cinnamon and orange. Long finish. This is a keeper.
Vessel: CT HP Jarrito Nose: Agave, Vegetal, Earthy, Nutty, Herbal, Anise, Mint, Floral Palate: Agave, Cinnamon, Chocolate, Must Finish: Brine, Sea Salt, Cinnamon, Vegetal Wow! There is so much going on here, it's insane! Not a single note is half-assed or muted in the slightest. From nose to finish, these bright flavors sing with enthusiasm. Phenomenal nose that walks the walk on the palate all the way to the finish. Simply put, this is a hone run that a lot of folks are sleeping on.
I was an early fan of Xolo. I had the pleasure of meeting Edmund in GDL. I say this because I want to be transparent. Also know that he let me taste this when I met him. However, the bottle I am reviewing I bought with my own money. As a HP lover, I can tell you that I am excited to have an HP Extra Añejo. Let’s start with the bottle. A beautiful etches glass one liter with Mexican art style Xolo dog. I love that this XA still has some cooked agave on the nose. It is fruity with cherry and peach. I get a sweet molasses note. I also get barrel notes. On the palate, it is not as barrel influenced as many XAs that I have had. I do get vanilla, agave, leather and alcohol. The ABV influence is not perfect in my opinion but it is close. I also get some honey and some fruit. A bit of earthiness and a touch of pipe tobacco. Finish has nice viscosity and last a decent amount of time. Some alcohol burn on the finish. I am happy to own this bottle and I am looking forward to rounding out my Xolo collection when the Still Strength arrives next week.
