This is a bar mixer in Puerto Vallarta. Aroma of cooked agave, oak and herbal. Not much going on here. Flavor of cooked agave, black pepper, oak. The pepper spiciness is nice. Medium finish. This is a mixto but not picking up bad additive flavors.

There’s a lot to love about this particular tequila, and the name alone makes one reason clear. Any tequila that involves a tahona in the production process will win a special place in our heart, and this one is no exception.

Nose: Oak forward right out of the gate, with plum and dried fruit rounding things out. There’s a slight minerality and a touch of toffee, but agave is hard to pin down…it’s either buried or just absent. Palate & Mouthfeel: Thin, watery mouthfeel with no real grip or structure. The plum and dried fruit carry over, joined by familiar barrel spice. There’s caramel and a roasted chestnut note that stands out - salty, nutty, a little sweet. It adds a nice layer, but it’s not enough to carry the whole profile. Finish: Quick. The oak and chestnut hang around briefly, then fade without much fanfare. Final Thoughts: This drinks sweet and safe - too safe. There’s no off note, but also very little to hang your hat on. The agave is MIA, which makes this feel more like a gateway bottle for bourbon drinkers than something for agave fans. It’s approachable and easygoing, but not memorable. Those who know what they’re looking for in a tequila will likely find this a bit hollow.
