rating adjusted even higher than in my video
More oak notes than I would have expected, imparting cherry, vanilla, oak.
Tasted at a distillery tour and really enjoyed this one
Rated this blind as the top HP blanco of a 6-set tasting, really surprised by that. Very inviting fresh aroma of agave, grass, and citrus. More citrus, pepper, and brine on the flavor. Long finish.
Aroma is full of vegetal notes. (As an aside, I usually have a glass of Suerte Leguas blanco as a “cleanser” and the Brix is more vegetal than the 7L…very surprising.) after a time, black pepper emerges fairly strongly. Vegetal aroma Carrie’s over as the primary flavor. Nice bite of peppery heat shows up fairly quickly. Nice long warm finish. Side-by-side tasting of Aniversario-Cerro-Brix. Of the three, I would choose the Brix as #1. 4-4-2003
Initial aroma has a distinct mineralogy along with sweet fruit. Over time, a smokiness begins to emerge along with black pepper. Flavor has a more raw agave sweetness that smoothly moves to slight smokiness and then a peppery heat. Medium finish. Compared to the Aniversario, the Cerro seems more integrated/cohesive. Rather than blocky/chunky flavor jumps (Aniversario) the Cerro moves smoothly from one point to another. Side-by-side Aniversario-Cerro-Brix 4-4-2023
Complex and evolving aroma. Initial sweetness followed by distinct smokiness which then moves to a cooked agave, mineral and brine. Flavor has an initial sweetness that moves to pepper and smoke. Heat at the back end that lingers in the finish. So many things about this one lean toward “mezcal-like” but it is clearly tequila and not mezcal (thankfully from my perspective). Side-by-side tasting of Aniversario-Cerro-Brix. 4-4-2023
An estimated 70 percent of all tequila contains undisclosed additives, like vanilla extract and aspartame. One couple is on a mission to change that.
The 12 finalists are tequilas that offer vibrant and varied aromas and flavors with good texture and a pleasing aftertaste.
Lou gives some mighty high praise for this affordable blanco tequila.
The team behind the Tequila Matchmaker have launched a “Verified Additive Free” program for tequila brands and distilleries. This is the first known independent, additive-free verification in the spirits world.
Largely dependent on U.S. bars and restaurants, Mexico’s craft distilleries are in trouble, and trying to find new ways to connect with consumers.
