Aged 3 years, White and French Oak, 50/50 mix The nose is nice. There’s some sweet stone-fruit notes and a fragrant floral note. I get this note from several highland Anejo and XAs. I taste the sweet barrel spices up front. I then detect cinnamon, dry oak, leather, tobacco and then some sweet vanilla. There’s some light pepper notes that hang around for the finish. $115 OTT
Aged 6 months The nose is soft but I detect some anise and subtle spices. There are also some light fruity notes. After it opens up I get a nice vanilla note. I taste cooked agave and then the barrel spices kick in; lightly charred oak, hint of American whiskey, anise and a light mix of caramel, vanilla and cinnamon. The agave / barrel sweetness and barrel notes linger while there is an alcohol tingle that presents itself later into the finish. $90 OTT
I’m rating the Blanco without gold flakes. The juice is the same minus the gold. At first I get bright citrus notes and raw vegetal agave. Then there is some minerality and a hint of alcohol. I taste vegetal agave and some minerality behind a lingering pepper. There is some natural agave sweetness and a nice alcohol tingle on the palate that continues into the finish. The price hurts the rating as it’s currently $85 online at OTT.
