I tasted this on the fly at Arte Agave Atlanta on Sept. 27, 2024. Strong sweet agave forward. Nothing specifically spicy…hint of peppermint- not black pepper- anise and some light fruit and floral hints. This was really very good. Excited to see more from this brand.
It’s Sunday! Sipping Sunday!! Happy National Cookie Cutter Day!!! Tonight’s pour comes from NOM 1360 Corporacion Ansan, Pedro Furtivo Blanco. The Brand was Founded by Agavero Omar Martinez and Wine and Beer Experts Peter and Rachel Kiley. Omar is a third generation Agavero as well as a Partner in several Construction Firms in the Atlanta Area. Peter worked within the wine industry before trying his hand working in the Beer Brewing business. Rachel was the Sales Director at Monday Night Brewing when she and Peter met. Omar Martinez and his family have been cultivating their farm for 6 generations! Now the third generation of Agave Farmers they truly care for the land! As a steward for the land, Omar has a belief to keep the land as harmonious with natural nature as possible. He does not clear the land of trees, and even plants more! Peter’s background began as a Chemistry Major at the University of Georgia. He decided not to follow his initial path to medical school, but instead followed his Aunt and Uncle to the Anderson Valley in California and began learning wine making. He then bounced around different Wineries and after learning many things, even becoming a Sommelier. Wanting to head home, he began working at a Chateau Elan Winery and Resort. In 2013, he landed a role at Monday Night Brewing. By 2018 he had worked his way up to Head Brewmaster. Rachel began her tenure at Monday Night Brewing at it’s inception. Over the last 5 years she served as the COO for the Company. Peter and Rachel have since started Sneaky Pete Spirits, Rachel is the Co-founder with Peter and is the CEO. Both Peter and Rachel will continue to support Monday Night Brewing, with Rachel continuing as a Strategic Advisor while Peter will remain the Head Brewmaster. Omar, Peter, and Rachel each have duties to make their endeavor successful. They have brought in Juan Pablo Gonzalez as their Master Distiller. One of Peter’s specific duties is blending. With his vast knowledge with Monday Night Brewing’s Barrel Aged Program, he has taken the active role in their aged products. Pedro Furtivo (Sneaky Pete) uses 6–7-year-old Agaves from the Martinez Family Estate. Jimadors cut only super ripe Agaves. Agaves and then split and cooked in Traditional Stone Brick Ovens. Cooked Agaves are then macerated with Roller Mills with Deep Well Water being added. Fermentation takes place in Stainless Steel Tanks with the use of proprietary yeasts. It is then distilled twice in Copper Pot Stills. Aroma: Out of the gate, Sweet Cooked Agave jumps out. As does a Grapefruit Citrus Note. A ripe Pear note can also be detected among a Fruity complexity. There is a noticeable Earthy and Minerality here as well. Cinnamon holds a nice sweet spice aroma. An Herbal and Vegetal quality pops out along with the scent of fresh cut grass and even a light Floral Note. Taste: The same Sweet Cooked Agave that was on the nose, definitely shows up immediately on the taste. The Grapefruit Citrus flavor isn’t a bitter citrus flavor, it is very sweet, but distinctive. There is a tart Pear/Apple note that is balanced by the Earthy and Mineral driven tastes. Where many Blancos have a Black Pepper or Cinnamon component that shows up quickly, here it’s a sweet spice note of Cinnamon that comes towards the end of the mid-palate. All these sweet flavors are still balanced out by the Herbal and Vegetal flavors along with the Fresh Cut Grass. Finish: Nice Sweet Finish of Agave, Grapefruit, Tart Pear/Apple and Light Cinnamon and a Floral note that carries this out. A very easy delicious sipper! TMM—87 Salud!
Was gifted some samples from Matt from Agave Swappers on FB. Nose: Cooked Agave, Honey, Nuttiness Taste: smooth, agave, nuts, cream. Vessel: Glencairn Nose: Cooked Agave, Cream Soda, Peppermint, Hay, Honey Mouthfeel: Medium Bodied Taste: Agave, Macadamia Nut, Cream Soda, Earth Finish: Agave, Creamy Custard, Honeysuckle I was gifted this bottle by the brand to try out along with the reposado. I had already heard good things about this brand by a friend in the community, so I was eager to try it. As always with new brands without much of a track record, I had a healthy level of skepticism.. turns out I really enjoyed this one. It's sweet and mild but does it right. Lots of agave, lots of creaminess and sweetness but without the black pepper that I'm typically used to seeing on the finish. Well done, Pedro!
Cooked agave bomb. Awesome finish. Even better price. Might be my new go-to blanco under $40
Additive Free. Cooked Agave, vegetable, light pepper and an awesomely smooth finish. Never heard of or seen this tequila before. Found in Atlanta GA. Fantastic quality for the price ($35) and the label is pretty amazing
