Nose: agave / pepper / earth / minerals/ pineapple/ citrus/ alcohol Taste: sweet agave bomb / cinnamon / pepper/ banana/ so very balanced! Finish: very clean, bright / very low viscosity and a very pleasing lingering taste that dissipates like a fade to black on a sunset shot at the end of a movie. This blanco still strength uses the high abv to pop-out huge flavor and somehow keep it incredibly balanced- nice harmonious single big splash of flavor followed by pops of singular delicious notes. The finish just keeps the tune playing long enough to make you realize you’ve had an excellent tequila..
Batch 3 This nose is fragrant with an abundance of agave and minerals. The agave is buttery and dense. There’s some excellent zest that’s on the lemon and lime end of the citrus spectrum. There’s an earthy aroma of wet clay and hints of fleeting floral vapors. This nose is very aromatic and it’s hitting my personal preferences. The high proof is delivering some excellent aromas. All the notes from the aromas are present on the palate. The agave and minerals hit first with some pleasant intensity. The agave is vegetal and spicy. There’s a balance of spice; white and black peppery with some fresh jalapeño. The minerals are pronounced but they are accompanied by the lemon lime citrus zest that carriers some ever so slight bitterness. The pepper picks back up right before the finish. There’s some agave sweetness that kicks in but the spice and minerals linger. Overall I personally really enjoyed this still strength blanco. It has great agave, minerality, citrus and pepper. It’s all well balanced and very flavorful. I’ll be looking to add a few of these to the rotation.
This 55 ABV is an easy drinker for such a high proof. The nose carries only minimal alcohol and is rich with minerals and cooked agave. I get some citrus and a touch of brine. The taste is oh so nice for 110 proof. Plenty of agave with black pepper and earthiness. Minerals are present a bit of brine and mint. There is a bit of Alcuin the finish but overall the high ABV works very well with this tequila and would certainly be something I would recommend to someone wanting to try a high proof.
Horno 2022-01 PMS 5/01/22 25/11/22 Warming nasal impact. (Had to double check that I didn't pour the std Blanco). Aromas of limestone, brine, lemon zest, cinnamon, chalk dust from an elementary school eraser, cooked agave, cut grass. Lots going on here. Buttery mouthfeel with sufficient alcohol and drying on the first sip. Still no indication this is 55% ABV. The limestone carries through on the flavor, with lemon zest and grapefruit pith, olive brine, butter, cooked agave, anise and pepper - but not in your face heat (remember this is 55%). A vegetal finish with light ember heat on a long finish. I keep taking another sip before the finish actually ends. At approximately $75 it's not an everyday sipper, but definitely one to experience. Very well done blanco. Keeps the palate interested on every sip
This is my 400th rating!! This tasted and finished very smoothly. You wouldn’t know it is a 110 proof. My first aroma sensation was olive/briny. The flavor is strong agave, pepper, minerals and olive. It has a long, warm finish that’s spicy.
Strong alcohol presence on the aroma with agave, let it open up for 15 minutes. The flavor is great, pepper, minerals, citrus. Finish is spicy, warm, long lasting. Doesn't taste or finish as a 55% ABV!
700 ml bottle lote 02 Nose: Clean, crisp first impression. Lemon and lime oils. Limestone. Subtle cinnamon and vanilla teases. Freshly cut lawn clippings. Chunky agave aromas. No overbearing ethanol assault. Flavor: Pepper, salinity, silky agave- all in a pleasing proportional harmony. Light tropical notes. Alcohol heat is present, but it invites you back sip after sip. Finish evolves slowly, offering up undercurrents of anise, nutmeg and allspice.
2nd day; The aroma to me fires off as ultra crisp, heavy agave citrus, salinity, stone and alcohol but not a burning scathing ethyl. After a few moments of alcohol burning off I can smell the creeping of stone and butterscotch with wafs of cacao. The aroma isn’t particularly noteworthy to me but the blast of agave seizes the nostrils. The aroma disarming, the taste is excellent. Imagine having roasted agave, oranges, tropical fruits, mints, and cacao stuffed in a Hawaiian sugar cube dosed with two hits of LSD all sitting on your tongue as its set ablaze, not on fire, but ablaze, and melts in your mouth while your palate fries. It’s eye-opening and insanely delicious. The heat fades and and you’re left with traces of tangy scorched fruitiness on the dry down. So satisfying, worth the price imo.
Clear silver color … aroma of cooked agave overripe fruit and citrus. Tastes of anise, minerality, some tart citrus and black pepper. Earthy warming finish. Well made
Nose: light agave, tropical flowers, fruit, cantaloupe, and earthy Flavor: some sweetness on entry then white pepper Finish: long and the white pepper continues
Batch 2 | Gorgeous nose, subtle but beautiful agave. Palate is nice cooked agave. Easy and a treat to drink. Gorgeous tears coat the glass. Medium heat on the finish but Yum. Makes me come back for more. This is real nice. Fantastic job creating a beautiful product.
This high proof shines, delicious and mouth watering, light pepper, great citrus mouth feel. Quite enjoyable, definitely looking for more bottles. Salud
As expensive as the Cerro de Luz it is still a treat to taste this and the 40% side X side. This wins everytime. If you can only choose one, choose this one.
Aroma, mint, menthol, agave, herbs, brine, light floral, wow I could smell this just as long as I could sip it. Flavor is a treat of an agave burst with spices and earthy minerals. Lives up 100% to all the hype.
Lot 1 & 2 are both 91 rating for me, but Lot 3 is 92. All are phenomenal.
Need to add a bottle of this to my bar. Had it at Anvil in Houston and really loved it by itself and on a custom cocktail they made on the spot. Didn’t take notes, but I do remember I really liked it and been looking for it after it. Need to revisit for further notes
Lot 1: Agave, tart fruit, minerals, earth, mint, and cinnamon with a long finish! The high proof explodes with flavor but doesn’t overwhelm with alcohol. Simply excellent. Love that this has TONS of details on the label—amen! 90 Lot 2 blind: Mineral, earthy, herbal, pepper. (Not as good for me as lot 1). 83
Very nice still stregnth 110 proof that doesn’t drink like 110 proof. Love that they put all the specs on the bottle. Nice sweet agave upfront, with some vegetal/earthiness, little fruit like green melon and pepper.
PMS5/01/22 25/11/22 Nose: chocolate, agave, earth, Taste: sweet agave, cinnamon, spice/earth, slight grass Finish: cinnamon, chocolate, cooked pineapple
Great still strength flying under the radar! Strong agave flavors, pepper, mint, grassy, earthy and mineral goodness throughout each sip! Medium finish and great complexity! Must try! $68 in Colorado!
No words.
Wow, tremendous cooked agave, cinnamon burst. Not as hot as anticipated Excellent, hint of citrus, nice long cinnamon spice finish Best still strength I’ve tried yet.
Cooked agave and slight burn but so good. One of my favorite so far.
Lote 2. Does not drink like a high proof. Very enjoyable to sip. Lots of flavor. Agave, citrus and pepper up front. Minty with brine that is not my favorite but adds to the overall finish. Slight heat.
High-proof tequilas, once only for hardcore drinkers, are now being released at a steady pace. Why?
As we begin a new month, we like to recap the bottles we poured on repeat from the month before.
