Lalo has been my go to recommendation for friends & family who are looking for a reasonably priced, quality made tequila. No, it is not the best tequila on the market, nor is it the most budget friendly option. For me, Lalo stands above the rest because it hits the sweet spot of accessibility for the novice tequila drinker and availability in most stores. I came into this new expression from Grupo Tequilero with this in mind. The nose on PM Blanco gave me little to go off of. Muted citrus and pepper to be found with subtle vegetal notes. The palate was better with cooked agave, citrus, minerality, and pepper notes. The finish was lengthy, with a thinner viscosity, bitter acetone and astringent. I came into this expression hoping to find the strengths that Lalo solidified, with a more premier feel to justify the higher price PM Blanco demands. Unfortunately, I was let down. Yes, PM Blanco is a decent offering from 1468, but it pales in comparison to its sister brand. Considering the pedigree that PM Spirits imports has throughout the industry I was duly disappointed by this release. I hope they iron out the kinks & give it a second shot, perhaps at a different distillery.
Nose: agave / pepper / earth / minerals/ pineapple/ citrus/ alcohol Taste: sweet agave bomb / cinnamon / pepper/ banana/ so very balanced! Finish: very clean, bright / very low viscosity and a very pleasing lingering taste that dissipates like a fade to black on a sunset shot at the end of a movie. This blanco still strength uses the high abv to pop-out huge flavor and somehow keep it incredibly balanced- nice harmonious single big splash of flavor followed by pops of singular delicious notes. The finish just keeps the tune playing long enough to make you realize you’ve had an excellent tequila..
Exquisite nose I get agave, anise, vague hints of cement and possibly a touch of sea salt and white pepper coming through. The taste is similar but I get more agave, black pepper, anise and less wet cement, the finish has a very slight undertone of melon, which I found interesting. This was a really solid sip!
High-proof tequilas, once only for hardcore drinkers, are now being released at a steady pace. Why?
As we begin a new month, we like to recap the bottles we poured on repeat from the month before.
