Nose: agave- sweet /white pepper/ banana/ peach/ lime-grapefruit notes / floral / earth Taste: agave sweetness/ pepper / banana/ citrus / orange peel / spearmint / honey /alcohol Finish: clean cool water / lingering sweet and pepper finish - has a good mouthfeel- an excellent residue feeling This is a fabulous tequila that may never be made again. The Distillation Strength 55% abv might be a touch high….it could have been 50%, had all the flavor and prevented the alcohol aftertaste. But this overall is a beautiful tequila, and the brand should be revived if possible just based on how good this is.
tasted june 10, 2023 Villa lobos 55 high proof some alcohol. i didnt take very good notes re. this tasting. just noted some anise in finish and 84/85 rating
If you like high proofs this one will be easy to like. Peppery and herbal with a bit of citrus it's well balanced.
I enjoy high proofs, and although this one is good, it’s just shy of what I prefer. The initial taste on the palate is very good, but then the heat steals the show. The sweet, peppery agave punch is quickly overridden by the alcohol burn. There’s a nice finish after the alcohol fades.
Aroma: very aggressive alcohol attack (least favorite thing about this profile). Burns too much… I’m even surprised to say this. Other NOM 1139 brand are more friendly and delightful in their aroma bouquet. Aroma Notes added through the app (will add later on here) It improved in flavors and was able to enjoy it. Loved the overall complexity, it takes you through many flavors and still enjoyed some agave soul. Flavor notes added through the app (will add later on here). Need to revisit since glassware at the bar was meh. Tasting at Madre Oaxaca @ LA - $20 1oz pour…
Agave monster on the nose. Beautiful nose. Palate is interesting but tasty, not sure I know how to describe it. Nice creamy mouth feel with some tongue numbing but it's sweet. Opens up after a few minutes to more deliciousness. Revisiting this in 2024 and it’s really good. I love that hot pepper finish. Bumping by a few points.
Rated an 87 but then gave it an 84 blind. On the blind I noticed an herbal (sage?) and mineral nose that was just ok for me, with more minerals and pepper on the flavor.
Nose: awesome aromas; complex; agave and spice Flavor: complex; sweet; agave; alcohol doesn’t come in until I exhaled, then wow. Finish: not overly long but very refreshing aftertaste Buy again: yes Recommend: yes Value: really good.
Tastes clean with a bit of a floral taste. Very smooth with NO bite at all!
Sweet agave taste with a hint of floral notes.
Very similar flavor to my #1 favorite, the big brother, Tapatio 110! About $20 more and very hard to find, but I’m glad I tried it.
Aroma is herbal, agave, minerals Taste is herbal, agave and citrus Finish is long but warm
Rated this #1 in a high proof blind of 6 blancos. Flavor bomb! Really enjoyed this one. Thought it was complex and deep in flavor and preferred this one over Tapatio 110 coming from the same distillery.
This was incredibly delicious. I was fortunate enough to have grabbed the last bottle and it does not seem to be coming back. This had a high proof bite but I didn't mind. Awesome nose great flavor and finish. Super sweet and fruity. I would definitely buy it again if available. Lost some points for value. Probably would be in the mid 90s if value wasn't a factor.
Cooked agave, balanced between sweetness and mineral
Long linger finish taste stays
Doesn’t smell like much, but burns like a bitch, probably wouldn’t drink again to be honest.
nutty, pineapple
Too much alcohol for my taste, light mouth feel and big burn Would stick with the añejo or repo
Very interesting: it’s hella peppery, but not in a way that so aggressive you have sip slowly. And sip slowly we shan’t. We shall guzzle. But I digress! It’s like a low-level, fine-grained pepperiness present from start to finish in a background sort of way. Earthy but still bright. Almost a bit of smoke or something to it - although I hate people who describe everything as smokey. Anyway, it’s time to get back to my life. Highly recommend.
Love the sweet Heat!!!

Great complex nose. This is one reason I love high ABV. It really enhances everything when done well. Nose has plenty of agave and follows with an earthiness with herbs and minerals. Slight floral notes and a touch of fruit. While the ABV works well on this nose, it may be a tad much for the taste as it is a little overpowering. I still think it has a nice taste of agave, pepper, citrus and mint. Finish is overpowered by alcohol. I still like this one and would definitely drink it again.
