very nice and agave forward, but a little sweet, and a bit of alcohol buzzing

Purchased in June 2022 for USD140. Aroma: plenty of cooked agave well balanced with oak, minerality, light fruitiness and citrus, orange. Palate: see aroma. Reminiscent of a creamy soda? Very unusual, but very enjoyable. Finish: orange, creaminess, alcohol and minerals.

This XA is an instant classic. So much going on here. Transitions from a fantastic blanco through all the Pasote expressions to get to this killer XA. Retains all of the warmth from the agave from the blanco and then some! Oily upon entry with yams, berries, candied walnuts, dried fruit> pineapple, blood orange, nutmeg, cinnamon, citrus, toffee, so much goodness here! One of the best XAs made in recent years!

Light in color. Heat, whiskey, cooked agave. I wanted to really like this since I am a huge Pasote Blanco fan. Will need to retaste at another time. Didn’t feel it lived up to its reviews. / retasted again and found it opened up and was outstanding

Aroma : Full of cooked agave, vanilla, oak. This also carries some fruity undertones in the form of apple/pineapple/pear notes. Taste : The fruity undertones from the aroma carry through strongly here, accompanied by agave, citrus, and some minerality. There is also a hint of spice here that contrasts the sweeter fruit flavors, and the texture is oily and full bodied. Finish : Decently long and carries stronger notes of oak and vanilla that invite you back for another sip, and another, and another... This is like Cascahuín Extra Añejo's long lost cousin when it comes to the cooked agave/fruity flavor dynamic with some barrel notes; one of the possible routes a distiller may take in making a great Extra Añejo. In other words, buy this.

Another classic Pandillo/Felipe Camarena XA with its pale color and complex aroma of cooked agave, citrus, sweet fruit (apple, plum) and underpinning minerality (wet stone, clay). Spicy heat sits right on top of sweet fruit flavor at the open. (This is a contrast to many tequilas that open with sweetness then shift to spice. A really nice blend here.) These two continue to blend and dissipate at a similar pace in a mid to long finish. Again, the higher ABV is hardly noticeable in terms of heat but does push the agave and other flavors forward. Quite a bit of similarity between the Pasote and the Volans but to my taste the Pasote comes out slightly ahead. 12-24-2019 7th Annual Xmas XA tasting

Nose is wonderfully bright cooked agave, nutmeg, cinnamon and citrus and it just delivers Taste is just a fantastic as the bright agave turns into cinnamon for a moment and then solid black pepper. Just as you appreciate the pepper, the ride starts again as caramelly/vanilla finish lasts for the perfect amount of time. What a journey

This 4 year XA from Felipe is special. The nose is complex. I detect cooked agave, sweet juicy plum , vanilla and some slight oak. I taste a sweet mineral brine, cooked agave and toasted brûlée. The finish is as wonderful as the first taste. This is truly a sipping tequila. ¡Salud!

Aged 4 years in used barrels, this XA from the mind of Felipe Camarena has a golden color with some copper highlights. Presented in a polished, heavy glass bottle and a basic clamshell case this resembles the well known Avion 44 package. At a similar price point to the A 44 this XA has a very different flavor profile with a full and robust flavor imparted by Bib & Tucker barrels in El Pandillo's cellar. At 45% ABV this has a ton of spice on the palate from agave and barrel spice of caramel, oak, clove as well as a nice bite from the higher ABV. The taste is full with natural sweetness and some nice oiliness and really blooms with a small amount held in the mouth and worked around the tongue and gums for 20-30 seconds before swallowing. This finishes with a hint of bitter from the barrel but with everything else going on it isn't worth taking score away.

Aroma: Agave, Caramel, Vanilla, Hint of Pineapple, Oak Flavor: Agave, Vanilla, Pineapple, Citrus, Oak Finish: There is an initial explosion of flavor on the palate and then it tapers off into a nice smooth finish. Overall: One of my favorite tequilas for special occasions. Just a fantastic Extra Anejo put out by Felipe Camarena. I got married last October and this bottle of Pasote Extra Anejo was one of my wedding gifts. I will always cherish this bottle.

I might have a completely different expectations for XA, but this one is nowhere near XA’s I like. My reference XAs are: Codigo XA, Grand Mayan, even Patron XA. To begin: the color is faint, would not expect this from XAs as I’m used to more rich and darker colors. Second, Pasote has unique earthy smell and flavor. This one is no different: earthy cooked agave on the nose. Smooth but tingly flavor with no depth at all, no layers like in other XAs I mentioned. Overall, this one should’ve been Pasote’s Anejo (as the current completely is undrinkable, imho) but the real XA needs a lot of work. For the price it’s a complete rip-off and I wouldn’t pay it again.

WOW!! this XA is awesome. on the nose great barrel notes and roasted agave. citrus, and funky mango, jasmine and dry fruits. on the palate I continue to get all that agave. super creamy and so much minerals.. limestone and wet clay. butter scotch, cream soda, black pepper, sage, cinnamon, roasted nuts. soo much barrel. very oaky.. getting a sweet potato candy vibe. made my taste buds explode.. so much flavor.. plus a little extra heat from this 90 proof. aged prunes, raisins and dates.. super complex. so many layers.. getting a mixed sensation of sun dried tomatoes and caramelized apples. finish was superb, just lingering and persuading myself to more.. kudos Mr Camarena..

Perfect. It’s not free… but worth the money. I actually went and bought two more bottles to squirrel away. It’s just about the most balanced extra Anjeo I’ve ever tasted. I appreciate that it’s NOT just cooked agave. When something is aged to this level, the barrel flavors in my opinion SHOULD slightly dominate a little over the cooked agave. So many highly rated ones fail either with no agave flavor left.. or so much you can’t tell it’s not just a Reposado. Very smooth.

A harsh finish for an anejo.

light sweetness on the nose but the taste is all pepper, a little oak but really light for an Extra Añejo. A little heat but the agave comes through on the finish. I don’t remember loving this the first time I had it but I feel like this has opened up incredibly. Definitely a fan, very enjoyable to drink.

I let this open up for about 10 minutes. There’s an initial oaky bitterness that balances out midway and through a very pleasant finish. However, the initial taste wasn’t as pleasant as the finish for me.

Soft butterscotch, fruity, apple, agave, raisin and a little oak on the nose. Still a hint of agave on the nose as well. Soft on the palate. A little alcohol burn on the back end. Nice baking spices, light cooked agave and vegetal on the palate. Long finish with a perfect amount of heat. Beautiful XA!

Initial aromas of sweet lemon black pepper, rosemary, and cedar. Coming back to the nose after a few minutes I get buttered toast and some barrel influences (oak, vanilla, baking spice). Despite being an extra anejo, the cooked agave flavour is still very noticeable. Lots of minerallity and herbaceous flavours. There is also some faint tropical fruit in the background. The finish is medium in length with noticeable citrus zest, oak, and vanilla. Retails for $275 Cnd here in Alberta, and I wouldn't think twice about spending that much on this incredible extra anejo!

Light in color and great bottle too. Aroma is very good with fruit and some mild sweetness. Also getting undertones of vanilla and leather. Taste is an explosion of roasted agave with some spice. It is not overly sweet (gracias adios). It feels great in the mouth. It is not crazy complex-just really good. Finish is fantastic with some good heat and just the right amount of sweetness. Long lasting. This is what a great XA can be! No superficial dark color or syrupy sweet nonsense.

Way too much resin flavor, and not enough sweetness. Seems and looks much more like a young reposado in untoasted barrels than an extra anejo. Might be interesting if it were $100 cheaper. At this price point it's completely outclassed by every other tequila I've tried

Pasote does an excellent job with this extra Añejo. It brings buttery smooth aroma and flavor throughout with subtle hints of vanilla and caramel. Very smooth on the tongue without being overly sweet.

Light amber color for an extra anejo. of course all Felipe's tequilas are typically lighter in color to most other tequilas but they do not lack in complexity. Peppery nose, cooked agave taste with hint of caramel and vanilla. Nice, rich mouthfeel. Rich consistent finish that I come to expect Pasote tequilas.
