Aroma : Heavy on the oak, but there is also a decent amount of dried fruits, spices, and some caramel and vanilla. Taste : The oak has a notable presence here as well. The initial oak note is followed by cherry, apricot (maybe kiwi?) and more traditional barrel notes of caramel and vanilla. The agave here has a very light presence, but the texture is oily and full. Finish : Medium/long with some more distinctive oak flavor and light bitterness. I like the 43% extra añejo better because it had a mixed nut thing going on with the taste and finish, and the agave was more prominent. This is still good though if you don't mind a little extra oak.

Cascahuin takes their already exceptional XA which is aged for 4 yrs and then gives it an additional 6 months in French Cask. Outstanding depth and flavors. Not over powered both oak either. Love it

More oak than agave on the nose and taste, but that's fine, as it has a nice sweet presence, cognac and whiskey notes. There's that dried fruit, some spices, vanilla, honey, caramel, almost cherry from the french finish, and even a little citrus in the background. this is really nice I enjoyed it a lot.

This has a lot more wood than the normal XA (which I totally love). Less agave but still a winner for people who love aged tequila.

Nose: The tantalizing French oak presence is distinctive and not easy to miss. There is a bit of a sharp oak note as well, but mellows as it opens up. The French oak brings forth a panoply of barrel/baking spices that meld into a new delicious alchemy. Ripe fruit, dried pitted fruit, dried citron and vanilla marry nicely with the barrel. There is an undercurrent of musty cellar and minerals that recedes as it opens up. Flavor: Initial pop of fruitiness, white pepper spiciness, and lively grapefruit nuances. The barrel spices introduce themselves individually: cloves, anise, allspice, cardamom.... then return to their earlier state of blended alchemy. A subdued almond suggestion has joined the vanilla in a velvety mouth feel. The only detractor is the slightest bitter note... Lote 1023 14 05 19

While I like this, I prefer the profile of the 43% bourbon barrel aged XA. Some bitter notes on the finish lead me to believe that just a few uses from now these barrels may be awesome with better spice and barrel presence than this current batch Lote 981 16 03 19. Time will tell as Savoy Brown sang.

Lote: 981, bottled on 16-03-2019. Color: between yellow and dark yellow. Aroma: Light sweet cooked agave, cooked yam, sweet oak wood notes, slightly minty, light vanilla, anise. Palate: light sweet cooked agave, oaky notes, black pepper, spicy, very light vanilla. Finish is medium to long, light sweet cooked agave and oaky notes persists, at the very end it leaves my mouth a little dry.

An XA that delivers everything we love, complexity, bright aromas, agave, dried fruits, citrus and mineral flavors with balanced barrel influence. This perfectly matured XA is one of the very best, a delicious success from Chava and Cascahuin. Very highly recommended.

Excellent tequila, comming from the regular Cascahuin XA, it taste very similar but with additional woodyness. Definatelly one of my favorites. Excelente tequila, viniendo del Cascahion Extra Anejo normal sabe similar pero con un tono mas amaderado debido a los 6 meses adicionales en roble Frances. Este tequila es uno de mis favoritos.
