Mexican 35% abv. bottling, lote: L18127MC38L17K1, bottled on 07-05-2018. Transparent añejo that doesn’t state cristalino anywhere on the labels, but it does state añejo cristalino on the marbete QR. Aroma: at first it is not very expressive, 20 minutes in the glass creamy vanilla shows up, becomes softer and smoother, behind the vanilla notes I can smell the bitterness of the alcohol. Palate: smooth, almost like water, light vanilla note. Finish is short, very light creamy vanilla note slowly fades away…

Vanilla aroma. Sweet and slightly pepper flavor. Easy, light finish.

Notes of alcohol, that is it. The aromas were stripped in the charcoal filtering. I had high expectations as I love the Extra Añejo, but was very disappointed. However, tasting other cristalinos in the market, it seems it is common to strip away all the good stuff. Hence the reason for additives such as vanilla. Definitely would go for an Herradura or Don Julio 70 if looking for a better cristalino.

The clarifying process downs not make the Añejo better.
