Another great expression from Volans. Great nose with agave first and foremost (nice for an XA). Vanilla on the nose with oak and caramel. Nice fruity nose. With cinnamon. Love this nose. Nice sweet agave to taste. Vanilla and oak follow with fruity notes. I taste butterscotch and cinnamon a touch of lime and honey. Great tasting tequila Mouthfeel is is nice and balanced. Not too thin not too oily. A bit of alcohol on the finish. I very much recommend this XA.
Nose: agave sweet/ vanilla/ cinnamon: / banana/ pear / apple / bell pepper/ tea / floral / chocolate/ Taste: sweet agave / vanilla/ oak / earth / cinnamon/ banana/ red apple/ hint of lime / peppermint / tea / Finish: clean water feel / almost no viscosity / lingering sweetness and mint / vanilla aftertaste This extra anejo has an excellent smoothness and provides big single taste notes, in a relaxed way. Not a flavor bomb….the great flavors are harmonious and not overly powerful, but what’s there is very enjoyable.
Nose: mint, cooked agave, apple, oak, vanilla, butter, baked spices and a beautiful bouquet of fruit including cherry. Palate: tea, hint of black pepper, light mouthfeel, agave, and orange zest. Very balanced flavors without an overpowering punch. Enjoyable! Finish: pleasant and restful flavors on the gums and tongue. I am a huge fan of this brand and expression. Up next, their 6 year XA
Blind rating: 89 on 2/8/2024 previously rated an 86 Aroma. From the jump I got a little bit of berry. Some citrus and floral notes come in soon after. I also get a little bit of peach and apricot. Followed by an earthy, dry soil aroma and a little bit of herbaceous notes. Flavor: sweet cooked agave and orange blossom honey hit immediately. I also get a peach flavor with a floral element. Hint of tobacco and some leather rounded out by a touch of oak. Finish: medium length finish. There’s a floral note that I can’t put my finger on. I’d say it’s close to jasmine and it has a nice sweetness too.
This XA greets you with a juicy fruity aroma, which I love on an XA. I’m tasting agave, fruit, vanilla, slight bitters, and a kiss of oak. It’s a light XA in the 1579 style.
This continues brilliantly from the blanco and repo. Golden medium straw hue. Agave driven of course, cinnamon, butterscotch. honey, orange zest, citrus, clove, white pepper, plum, wood notes don't over power anything, but leaves a nice cedar feel, (oak, of course). Solid AF.
1579 has never disappointed and the Volans is one of the best examples of a great tasting tequila. Thank you Felipe!
Sweet cooked agave, vanilla, caramel flavors, light citrus notes. Balanced, perfect sipper.
Nose: fair amount of cooked agave, caramel, vanilla, oak, and dried cherries Flavor: agave, dried fruit, butterscotch, earthy, lime zest, and light spice Finish: nice long finish with agave and dried fruit
Aroma : Cooked agave shines through with classic barrel notes of caramel, vanilla, oak, and some dried fruits. Taste : Notable agave presence alongside vanilla, butterscotch, oak, and more dried fruits. The minerals here are ever so light, but still noticeable after all that time in a barrel. The texture is nice and oily. Finish : Long lasting with a nuttier quality than the initial taste would let on. This one is interesting because the color in the glass is absolutely NOT indicative of an extra añejo. But then you take a sip and are welcomed with complex depth of barrel notes from an XA, AND agave you might see in a reposado. Another fantastic XA from El Pandillo.
Very light butterscotch, sawdust, baking spice and mineral. Baked apples, Cinnamon, cooked agave, white pepper. Short but interesting finish. Agave forward XA as expected and enjoyable, but leaves me wanting just a bit more.
Wow! Super stuff
Very light in color like other Pandillo XAs. Cooked agave is front and center in the aroma with minimal to no oak notes. The aroma complexity is filled out with citrus (lime?), light honey and a stony minerality. The flavor shows through as tequila first and foremost not a big barrel bomb. Great combination of cooked agave, warm baking spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) and black pepper spice. Also, an earthy minerality underlies all the other flavors. Long, warm finish. This is another great tequila out of 1579. 12-24-2019 7th Annual Xmas XA tasting
A very nice light XA with some vanilla, caramel, agave, light butterscotch, mint, light oak some burnt nuts, and fruit.
Volans Extra Anejo I’m a huge fan of El Pandillo - NOM1579. This XA is a special treat. On the nose I first detect sweet cooked agave then some vanilla and light oak. This tequila is very viscous, which feels great on the palate and lends to a longer finish. I taste cooked agave, butterscotch, white pepper, orange peel and a hint of oak. This is an excellent XA if you’re a true agave fan because the oak takes a backseat. This is a must have tequila! ¡Salud!
This XA from Felipe is as amazing as it gets. The barrel notes are fantastic. Its a quintessential Los Altos/El Pandillo tequila. I like that he’s using older barrels to let the agave shine through and not be dominated by wood. Although the beautiful wood is still present. What makes this so wonderful is that nothing dominates. The agave blends with the plum, ripe grapes, cherries, lime blossoms, vanilla and lightly toasted nuts. It’s fruity, its mineral-y, it’s aged to perfection. Nice work FC.
Barrel spice and agave on the nose. Nicely aged with minimal barrel influence. Felipe knows tequila.
Nose: Vibrant! Cinnamon and vanilla. Butterscotch and lactic. Blind Cata at Quinta Don Jose. Nice treat Grover and Scarlet!
How is it possible to have passion fruit aroma ?! Crazy!
Love the barrel notes here- pitted fruit, a hint of raisin, mellow cinnamon and vanilla. Not overly done for an XA. Flavor is tasty sweet agave with a slight mineral finish, characteristic of El Pandillo. A great new edition for tequila lovers.
Wow, where do I start with this one. First, it's fantastic. The color is as light as most reposados because it has been aged in 20+ year old used bourbon barrels for 3 1/2 years. But don't let the color fool you. The aroma and flavor shows every bit of character that you want in an extra añejo, including agave. You'll find a lot of gentle and natural vanilla and pitted fruits in the aroma and flavor, and a nice fruity flavor that lingers on the palate along with cooked agave. Only 1,000 bottles made, so this one is a rare find. Grab it if you can.
So good, clean……..
Nose has agave vanilla and caramel. Taste has agave, vanilla and butterscotch
Nose: Honey, Oak, Agave, Cinnamon, Minerality and Apple Mouthfeel: Light to medium-bodied Palate: Black Pepper, Minerality, Carmel, smoke Finish: Honey, Cinnamon, Agave, Minerality, Black Pepper This Volans offering has a good sweetness but less minerality than other El Pandillio Extra Anejos I've had. Its a little sweeter and a little smoother.

Rich nose with some barrel notes. Lots of barrel and caramel
