High proof brings something extra to this one. Pepper, caramel, oak, cinnamon, some agave and nice tingly finish with the higher proof. This one is more expensive but definitely a step up from the 6 year. One of my new favorite XAs.

High proof and barrel aged AND agave? I regret to inform you that I only purchased two of these bottles and wish I had many more. The 50% ABV brings the heat, but is perfectly appropriate. The higher alcohol content allows the cooked agave to peek through the many years of barrel aging. 14 Years!! This is superb.

Rich amber color and an aroma that definitely shows its 14-year aging. Great mix of caramel and dried fruit but also cooked agave in the mix. Also a bit of smokiness - burnt caramel, wood char. The 50% ABV shows up in the flavor and brings the sweet fruit, caramel and agave fully forward. The higher alcohol also brings a bit of heat to the finish but not to the detriment of flavor. Finish lingers for a good, long time. This is a great wintertime XA. Light the fireplace and watch the snow fall. (But, also such a significant contrast to the lighter touch of the Volans XA.) 12-24-2019 7th Annual Xmas XA tasting

Aroma : Cooked agave (After 14 years? Dang), some dried fruit, vanilla, caramel, butter, and toffee. Taste : Cooked agave and dried fruit notes predominate. But there is also some caramel and cinnamon here as well. This is complex and full bodied. Finish : Long lasting with further notes of dried fruit and caramel. There is some heat on the finish which goes well with the flavor. Very complex notes which are all distinctive and a dried fruit/cooked agave combo make this a top tier drink.

What a treat! It’s hard to believe that the aroma of sweet, cooked, mature agave is the first to hit my nose after 14 years of aging. The high proof (50% abv) helps bring the agave forward. In addition, there are aromas of vanilla, dried fruit (cherry), and cinnamon. Sweet agave and dry flavor with a pleasant finish tinged with hints of spices, like nutmeg. A very complex tequila that comes together elegantly, no doubt due in part to the quality of agaves used.

Whoa! Aroma on this is amazing. Astonishingly, after 14 years in a barrel, there is still cooked agave here. Bravo! Also in the aroma: dried fruit, vanilla, caramel, licorice and butterscotch. The agave, caramel, and dried fruit continue in the flavor. The finish is where the 50% abv makes itself known. Long and rewarding. This might be too high in alcohol for some, but just fine for me. After 14 years in a barrel, I'm shocked that there's still agave left. Another masterpiece from Don Adolfo and his carefully cultivated crop of organic agaves!

Because of the extremely high brix level, some sweetness comes through after this was aged 14 years in barrels. There's some heat, being that it's 100 proof, but overall if you let it sit a little, it's very bold and tasty. Aromas of caramel, light vanilla, spice, alcohol, sweet whiskey/oak, brown sugar, toffee, apricot, light roasted nuts, light leather, and light smoke, with some fruit presence. Taste was medium oils, with caramel, honey, vanilla, apricot and spice with light nuts, finishing in a medium to long finish.

A wonderful experience at high proof this XA is aged for 14, yes 14 years!! and still has an undercurrent of agave along with the unmistakable Jack Daniels bourbon profile of stone fruit and toffee along with vanilla and caramel from the oak. More please...

This is a 100 proof, 14 year XA. It tastes so clean! The agave shines through notes of carmel and vanilla.

@ 100 proof, Alquimia is a perfect winter sipper. Aged for 14 years, this is fairly priced compared to the XAs of today. The nose is amazing, along with the taste. Alquimia 14yr is a tequila I'll always have on the shelf. Now, my only question is whether the formula changed with the new smooth rounded-out toppers compared to the flared-out original toppers. I felt the smooth rounded toppers were more alcohol forward, which this rating doesn't represent. The reason being, I felt a difference between the two as the original toppers left a much better tasting experience.

Was curious about the hype of the 14 year old XA. I started with the 6 year (80 proof) and now moving to this (100 proof) Nose: Didn’t need to dig into the glass to get a nice punch of cooked agave, alcohol, oak, white pepper, brown sugar, maple, and vanilla Palate: The abv is definitely noticeable! Man. Capturing all the flavors were a challenge. Lots going on with so much barrel influence. Heavy Whiskey presence, pepper, caramel, oak, agave with the perfect amount of heat. Finish: The flavors keep coming more for about 30 seconds after I finished the sip. Very pleased with the bottle, but did it live up to the hype? Not really. I was expecting my mind to be blown but it was not.

Excellent XA, cooked agave still comes through being in a Barrel for 14 year. Strong bourbon like notes, chocolate, cooked agave, vanilla, good mouth feel. Definitely something to experience. High price point but very worth it!

Tried in a Riedel. Let it rest for 15 min before tasting. I love the color. It’s a rusty amber goldish color. Aroma: vanilla, maple, caramel, orange rind, black cherry, and dried fruit. Little to no alcohol coming through for being 100 proof. Flavor: creamy entry with a dried fruit, baking spice taste, a bit of some sweetness of caramel along with a nice heat that builds, a slight woody, burnt, bitterness likely due to the length of time in the barrel. Finish: a warmth of the alcohol heat but not overpowering, the heat builds up and has a long linger. You taste all the flavor on the side of you mouth as well as your throat. Left a numbness on the tip of the tongue. Overall, great tequila for 14 years in the barrel. The time in the barrel does not take away from taste.

The best tequila ever! Aged for 14 years and still has an tequila flavor profile. Tons of aromas and flavors evolving from cooked agave, caramel, pepper, apricot, oranges, citrus, mushrooms, and vanilla frosting. Got this for a similar price as Tears of Llorona and this is cheaper than Fuenteseca 10+ year tequilas.

For a 14 year tequila this wasn't as oak heavy as I thought it would be. Def notes of vanilla on the forefront with oak heat on the finish. Letting it sit for 15-20 mins helped tame the heat. A few drops of water helps tame as well.
