High proof brings something extra to this one. Pepper, caramel, oak, cinnamon, some agave and nice tingly finish with the higher proof. This one is more expensive but definitely a step up from the 6 year. One of my new favorite XAs.
Oak, vanilla, tobacco, dark cherries. Very easy sipper. Deserves a leather chair and deep conversation. Very nice.
Oak, caramel, cherry, baking spices. Not too complicated but a very pleasant easy drinker.
Pear, mint, brine, minerals, slightly metallic twang on the finish that takes a couple points.
High proof and barrel aged AND agave? I regret to inform you that I only purchased two of these bottles and wish I had many more. The 50% ABV brings the heat, but is perfectly appropriate. Aroma is inviting with floral notes, vanilla, oak, and tart fruit. Flavors follow suit with agave, oak, plum, vanilla, cinnamon, and pepper. This one has some traditional barrel influence but isn’t too dark. It also shows nice legs and presents a warm finish. This Reposado hits the right notes.

Like all the other Alquimia products, this tequila expression is something special. The main reason: although it’s an extra añejo the agave still shines through. Amen for that!
