Little musk and funk on the nose, green apple and black licorice. Notes of orange peel, cinnamon and spice, ends with white pepper and a pretty long finish. At home in a cocktail

A Fruity & Spicy tequila. Aroma: cooked agave, green apple, dill, ripe plantain, and marzipan. Palate; peppercorns and butternut squash with some Black pepper.

I can’t get past that proprietary yeast, it’s a pretty honest effort from Cofradia and one of the better products I’ve tried. Still not recommended, if this. Rand wants to be taken seriously they should find an alternate producer.

It’s a bit hot on the finish, but it’s also high octane tequila. I like it!

NOM 1137- Aromas of cinnamon, pepper, and spice, with minerals, and a musty aroma, with citrus, vegetal, floral and some anise (licorice) notes. It has a potent taste with a hot cinnamon presence and a musty, sharp, mild fruit, citrus and spice presence, along with some sweet agave notes. It is pleasant enough to sip, but in a hi-proof cocktail, this agave sweetness and alcohol punch, would cut through the mixed flavors and add a tasty zest. Decent price for an over proof blanco.

Sharp aroma with agave and noticeable alcohol sting. Also, a bit of an unpleasant rubber-like note. Flavor is rich and full with cinnamon, black pepper and a hint of fruit sweetness. The finish is short. 6/29/2017

Strong agave flavor, maybe a tad harsh for my taste.

This tequila needs time to open up like many other Blanco's I have found. I believe the sharpness will go away and the agave will come forward.

NOM 1607 | Agave on this nose, pleasant enough, not great. Easy on the tongue. Some mint. A little hotter in the chest than the nose and mouthfeel would suggest. Decent value. Better as a mixer.

Straight forward agave but fairly well balanced. I like it though I don’t have any particular attribute that would propel it to the top of my list of blanco.

NOM 1137 | The original distillery. This place is a contract producer. A lineage of average/mediocre tequila. (One of my “all time “ worst, Antano, was produced there and foisted upon us by corporate charlatans, Total Wine). Having laid some groundwork, this is a low 80s, high 70s tequila depending on your taste. This version is high proof which is different from the new product. You have a agave/pepper aroma with some alcohol. The flavor and finish continues this with a traditional high proof tingle at the end. This is not as smooth as the Terralta or G4 but it has some similar traits. Overall, worth a try if you like high proof products. The newer version would fit better for someone expecting a traditional blanco. The bottle shape is an easy tell on which nom/version you are purchasing.

NOM 1607 | A Califonia guy at a Cubs game. Went to a local tavern (Route 66). The owner was wonderful. I had the “new” version. This was 80 proof. The aroma was clean with agave and some pepper. The flavor was was more agave and pepper with a nice mouthfeel. This finishes quickly with no burn or odd aftertaste. A nice tequila discovered at a random place. I went back to Wisconsin and found a bottle. There is more to this story. See my next review on the previous nom product (which I bought). As an aside. The bottle pictured on TMM is old and from the previous nom.

NOM 1607 | Really enjoy the briny - agave nose and flavors. Taste a hint of lime and jalapeño. Medium heat on the finish.

NOM 1137 | Grassy and pepper with some alcohol. Has a nice initial sweetness on the tongue with an earthy nice finish. Bought a bottle for $28, so it scored a bit higher for me.

46% abv Astral blanco, NOM 1137, blue label on clear glass bottle. Unassuming 'rustic' bottle contrasts the quality of juice within. Intriguing nose of brine, butter, agave. Big brawny peppery agave forward hits and tingles you, like biting into peppercorns, with a black pepper aftertaste. I like this, especially at the 35-45$ range.

Kinda like this one. Vegetal aromas fresh agave and earthy cinnamon. The taste is cooked agave, citrus and minerals but quickly fades as the finish of spicy pepper, alcohol and fruity takes over. I like sipping it but I can imagine that using it in mixed drinks would benefit it.

great for shots or sips, smooth...just not large sips. The finish is warming and so smooth It also came with two cups so it's kind of a steal at $35 for the bottle and cups

Love the smell of it. Floral, citrus, agave, mild pepper with heat. I like it. It's a solid juice, slight bite but not bitter. Goes good with a lime.

Really interesting aroma mostly good with some strong alcohol. Aroma is earthy with minerals. Taste is good and not too hot. Finish is nice with long-lingering pepper and agave.

There is tons of agave and citrus on the nose. Very pleasant nose. The palate has a lot of black pepper to go with the agave and citrus. The extra alcohol is very apparent on the palate. The finish is peppery and vegetal. It lasts and has some sweetness to it. This was an outstanding value at $28.

Wasn’t crazy about this the first time I tried it but it was early in my tequila experience. It’s fairly complex with a nice vegetal character.

Astral Tequila - It's 'Interesting'

For the money, Astral Tequila is a good high proof, clean blanco. As a sipper it could be a little rough around the edges, but perfect for a high quality mixed cocktail. So keep drinking tequila, and as Jonathan would say.... Stay thirsty my friends.

Blanco Tequila: The Great Divide

While the panel’s favorites were complex, elemental and intriguing, we were troubled by a lack of intensity in many of the bottles as well as by a sense of artificiality in some. As Florence put it, we found a great divide between those tequilas we liked

Tequilas worth a shot (or sip)

When it comes to tequila, the basic choice is simple: 100% agave, or not 100% agave. Of course, this is like saying that when it comes to music, there’s Mozart or there’s a guy named Steve-O playing the kazoo version of Eine kleine Nachtmusik alone in a b
