Aromas - overripe strawberries, dry mesquite, ozone, citrus. Flavors - light caramel, cedar, salt, bitter orange, white pepper. Finish is lingering, bitter and full of minerality. I’m ambivalent about this tequila at present, I don’t dislike it, but it’s not thrilling.
Very spicy if drinking neat. I like it much better when poured over ice to dilute a bit. Has a light sweet taste up front, but then strong alcohol finish. It is crisp, & doesn't linger on the tongue. Lots of alcohol on the nose, not much else. Recommended to me as a cheaper, but close in taste substitute to Forteleza. As I've never had Forteleza, I cannot confirm nor deny that. Update: now that I'm through most of the bottle, I find that I do enjoy this tequila. It's lost the alcohol finish I noted in the beginning & is a pleasure to drink.
Santaleza Reposado $66 USD (Ferment and Still) Overall: A natural and well crafted reposado that is an exquisite progression from the blanco. Light and soft on the nose and palate. Great sipper, albeit a priced a tad high. Nose: The fresh agave is present with light oak, light orange blossom floralness, honey sweetness, butter-caramel, light vanilla, dried tropical fruits, and traces of almonds. Taste: Soft, oily mouthfeel that really coats the palate. A nice pop of cracked pepper spice. Initial cooked agave with anise bitterness, oak, vanilla and caramel. Finish: Finish with a melow sweetness, vanilla and a touch of salted caramel.
