Great complex rosa reposado. The combination of the high proof and the cab barrels produce some amazing complex aromas and flavors. Nose: cooked agave, cinnamon, plum, berries, oak, citrus, baking spice and chocolate. Palate: cooked agave, cinnamon, plum, berries, oak, baking spice, chocolate and butter on the finish. Still some great agave flavor and aromas coming from the high proof plus some barrel complexity from the cab barrels. A very enjoyable sipper.
Nose: agave cooked / grapes -wine / pear / citrus / lemongrass/ nutmeg/ chocolate/ maple/ Taste: agave cooked / earth / pepper / grapes/plum / lime / orange peel / lemongrass / bell pepper/ tea / baking spice / chocolate/ maple / Finish: medium viscosity mouthfeel- an interesting palate coating texture that has a nice semi-oily coating feel / lingering light pepper and wine flavor notes / a bright crisp citrus, agave, and pepper trio stay throughout the experience. There’s a slight twinge of alcohol. This rosa reposado is refreshing and enjoyable. I feel like I would prefer the rosa blanco better as the wine/grape taste note doesn’t hit my palate right well….admittedly I think this tastes good and provides a good experience for those who enjoy wine, but my palate prefers notes other than wine.
So far I haven’t been a big Rosa fan. This is really good. Has agave as you would hope but the barrel impart a nice flavor on this repo. The tase does carry the barrel with cinnamon and vanilla and oak but the agave is there. This was tasted at a festival but I do have a bottle coming.
Batch RR92401 aged 82 days. Rose petals and cherries on the nose. Agave, orange, dark cherries, molasses, honey. Nice legs and a long tingly finish that’s also dry. The wine barrel makes its presence known. I like this one even better than the blanco!
Lote RR 92301 SiB 2023 Aromas: Spice, citrus, nuttiness. Dried fruits: apricot, pineapple and golden raisins. Gently floral. A tease of oregano. A resonating depth of aromas marry with the agave. An allspice, cinnamon, tart citrus note gives my nose a little pucker. A somewhat playful nose. Flavor: Vivacious barrel spices and freshly ground black pepper. Peach and almond undertones. Palate filling body and warmth. Vanilla creaminess and pleasing texture blanket the agave. Medium tannins, but a somewhat dry profile as it finishes. A great follow through project from the SiB Rosa Blanco. 2024 Lote Full Production Run RR92401 Nose: Pre Swirl: Mild. Minerals. Post Swirl: Cherries, berries, warm fruit notes. Vanilla. Ethanol is well integrated - low impact. Cinnamon, cloves, allspice and nutmeg. Dried citron and fresh citrus. Flavor: Warm up sip brings some heat to the palate, but rapidly abates. Solid body and great viscous mouth feel. A dash of salinity. Sweetness with a dry edge. A grind or two of fresh black pepper. A bounty of fruitiness, yet not overly sweet. The wine cask contributes some highlights without being overbearing. Finish: A long memorable, balanced finish. TMM rating 89+
Tasted at TAPs tasting room Notes of cooked agave, dried fruits, white pepper, subtle baking spices, clove, plum, fig, & pitted fruits. Has a puckery/astringent sensation. Aged for 3 months and 15 days. Would like to taste the wine as well/ know more details about the barrel.
Tasted at MBTC, discretely.
Once again, a product with quality that surprises from Cazcanes. The 50% abv contributes to a long sweet cooked agave finish, which is my favorite part of this tequila. The flavor of agave is retained and somehow enhanced through the use of the wine barrels. It doesn't have a complex aroma, though. But once this gets into your mouth it's extremely pleasant.
Agave, sweet, smoky aroma. Very complex flavors with cooked agave, pepper, honey, mineral tastes. Nice finish. I enjoyed it.
Tasted in Snifter Glass Aroma: Agave, Oak, Vanilla, Orange Peel, Caramel, Cinnamon, Baking Spices, Black Pepper, Chocolate Taste: Agave, Black Pepper, Earthy, Vanilla, Oak, Cinnamon, Citrus, Chocolate, Tobacco Finish: Earthy and a little astringent.
Can definitely tell this has been aged 84 days in wet napa cab barrels. If you like red wine, and a steak pairing, or a fun party trick, this is great. Aroma: agave and alcohol (50% ABV), fruity and citrus. Palette: strong agave and some heat, but the high ABV is nicely balanced with the flavors and barrel aging. Has feeling of sparkling red wine with a tingle, and some strong cherry and red licorice. Finish: good finish with agave heat, fruity and red licorice. Good for small sipping sessions, but can’t drink too much in a sitting. Cazcanes is generally overpriced in my opinion, although the juice is good. Points knocked for price. Overall a fun bottle.
Nose: Agave, Fruit, Plum, Raisin, Rose, Vanilla, Cinnamon Mouthfeel: light to light-medium bodied Palate: Vanilla, Cream, Rose, Apricot, Finish: Agave, Vanilla, Cherry, Plum, Cinnamon I've had some Rosa tequilas before but this one really takes the cake for me. I get other flavors and the red wine barrels don't obscure some of the other flavor profiles sign. Not much oak on the nose either. Very unique and palatable option for those dipping their toes into Rosa tequila spirits.
This tequila is truly exceptional, and I absolutely love it. While the price may seem a bit high, it's definitely worth the experience. On the nose: You’ll notice aromas of agave and citrus, accompanied by subtle earthy undertones, cinnamon, and a hint of pineapple. Taste: Cooked agave, oak, white pepper, with noticeable wine barrel notes, and a natural sweetness that’s hard to pinpoint. Overall, it’s a remarkable tequila, perfect for sipping.
Bottle: Batch RR92401 Appearance: Amber rose gold Full review pending…
This is unlike any tequila I’ve ever had, and I think it’s great. It smells like vanilla, spices, and berries. It opens up to wine, barrel, vanilla, and stewed fruit flavors. Has an excellent finish.
Wine and sweet on the nose. A sweet wine taste with a hot finish. The cost is what brings the score down under 100 it’s great
A special high proof. unique and special, give it a taste if you can.
Cazcanes No. 9 Rosa Reposado (lote RR92401) from NOM 1614 was an absolute delight. Though I haven't had the chance to try the previous rosa reposado releases for comparison, this limited edition left a strong impression. It begins its life as a 104-proof barrel-strength blanco, which is then rested for 82 days in first-fill Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon French oak barrels, before being bottled at a robust 50% ABV. In the bottle, its deep, dark golden hue suggests a longer aging, reminiscent of an extra añejo, though the transformation is surprising once poured. The liquid reveals a much lighter orange with a soft pink tint, a welcome sight for those like me who aren't looking for a reposado overwhelmed by heavy oak notes. On the nose, it's subtler than anticipated, but the body more than compensates, packed with flavors of cooked agave, dried fruits, allspice, and a hint of ground pepper. It's layered and complex for a reposado. The true highlight, however, is the finish—an enduring, agave-forward warmth that evolves into a gentle, sustained dry heat, free of any harsh alcohol bite or bitterness. It’s the kind of finish that lingers, inviting you to savor it long after each sip. I’m reserving a bottle for après-ski in Telluride this year, and despite its $129 price tag—a bit steep for a reposado—I wholeheartedly recommend it. Cazcanes has crafted something special here.
