I grabbed a 375ml at the distillery and I don’t know if it was the lot (24) or I’ve just come around, but this was friggen amazing! One of the best high proofs I’ve had.

Aroma: strong lime citrus, minerality, and light alcohol. Taste: Slightly sweet cooked agave with lime citrus across the palate. Finish: Smooth burst of black pepper, basil, lime, and cooked agave. Flavor lingers and numbs the tongue. Overall: An incredibly smooth and flavorful high-proof blanco that sets a high bar.

Complex and fun to sip! Even though it’s a high proof, alcohol has a friendly-attack. Full of cooked agave, fruity (green apple, pear, pineapple), floral in your mouth with a mix of peppery & citrus notes, sweet mint also says hello! Just wonderful. Not as price friendly as Tapatio 110, but definitely up there.

Striking and complex nose. Green olives stuffed with anchovies, ripe cheese, minerals, vegetal notes, and wet rocks. Juxtaposed with ripe fruit and abundant agave. Flavor: Green peppercorns, black pepper, smokey buttery honey. Meaty. Ripe cheese notes persist. A different umami/sweetness covers your tongue.

Still Strength 46º LOT: 22-5 View: transparent. Excellent tear adhesion to the cup. Freshly served; Aroma: very herbal, mineral and mint. Raw agave, black pepper, green vegetables. I detect a very slight aroma of plastic. Copper. Flavor: the herbivity is very lively and present. Immediately comes the minerality and a citrus aftertaste, a little grapefruit that comes out of the nostrils. I oxygenate it and let it sit for 25 minutes to let it open. Aroma: The first thing that comes to the nose is floral, it seems to me that it opened up the aroma and changed. Herbal and mineral. Mint. It seems to me that the previous aromas remain, but the plastic disappeared and gave rise to something that I can define as soapy, without being unpleasant and a little like marigold flower. Flavor: Very sweet, floral, cooked agave, cotton candy, sugar cane, even a little rum, herbal, mineral, copper. Very pleasant and good, the oxygenation helped a lot and it is expressed in a much better way. A citrus aftertaste that remains for a long time. This rating is blind.

Nose: citrus, grass, agave, anise, sweetness, mineral, mint Palate: sweet cooked agave forward, citrus, mineral, maybe black pepper, grass, earthy, and a bit of heat, but not overpowering! Great balance. Finish: lingering cooked agave, heat mellows out, mint and mineral notes. Clean finish Lot: 26

Incredible tequila. Was only able to find the bottle on my trip in Guadalajara. Very tasty, lots of pepper and lasting aftertaste. 100% must try. Need to find it in SD asap.

Tequila Los Abuelos Still Strength. A recent tequila but with a lot of history. The one who started everything is Don Cenobio Sauza in 1873 in La Perseverancia, his first distillery in Tequila, Jalisco, then in 1976 Don Javier Sauza sold the business to Casa Domeq but maintained a ranch with a micro-distillery, La Fortaleza, which they left abandoned, until that in 1999 his grandson, Guillermo Erickson Sauza reconditioned it to launch Tequila Los Abuelos in 2005. A curious fact is that when they wanted to export it to the United States they were sued by the Abuelo rum company, so in the United States it is sold under the name La Fortaleza, but it is the same tequila. To the eye, starts from the bottle, hand-blown and with an agave top, also hand-painted, with a nice label and in general a very pretty image! A very clean tequila, completely crystalline, brilliant, with silver-colored flashes as the light passes by. When you pour it, the glass sparkles with a rosary attached to the walls, in addition to long legs that are slow to descend, its 46 degrees of alcohol are noticeable, as they say, a quality obtained directly from the still without diluting it, as his grandfather drank it! On the nose there is a lot of cooked agave, some sweet and warm notes provided by the alcohol, at the end a hint of bitter citrus fruits, like lime. On the palate it is like on the nose, a strong presence of cooked agave, full-bodied, with character. Then the heat floods from the mouth to the throat, delicious! At the end notes of green grass that remain in the aftertaste for a long time. An excellent tequila! With strength, but a lot of flavor and very expressive!!

Bright, oily body with silver shines. Lots of agave on the nose, black pepper, spices and minerality. On the palate, cooked agave, herbs, pepper and basil. Prolonged earthy and mineral finish. You must let it breathe a bit to let the complexity of the flavors open up behind the alcohol. A very good blanco.

Lot L11-S-KH. Bottled on 26-08-2019. I was told that this lot is a special production using a batch of agave harvested from the fields of a friend of the distillery owner. Aroma: raw agave, briny, earthy, 15 minutes later in the glass the agave becomes sweeter & aromatic. Subtle white pepper. Minty. Palate: sweet agave, salty, earthy, minty. Finish is medium to long, agave sweetness persists.

Lot 22S Purchased in tequila, Mexico Jan 2023. Aroma: full of cooked agave and spice. Black pepper. Some very light citrus hints and a some olive. Great aroma - one of the best blancos in my opinion. Pallet: sweet in the back, some spice in the front. Sweet agave. Amazing finish. Solid 180 seconds +. Complexity with the flavor switching back and forth between the agave and spice. Overall: proud to own this bottle. Great value, just difficult to find. Only one bottle available in Oregon (the state I live)

Amazing, my all time favorite high proof tequila. The agave is so strong in this, delicious! Although it’s a high proof it’s not overwhelming for a new supper, the flavor explosion on my tongue is to die for. YUM!!!

Lot 20 estate grown agaves. Brought this back from our family trip Easter 2022. I know it’s the same thing as Fortaleza in name, but its still cool that it says Los Abuelos on the label. Still Strength is one of my favorite blancos. This one is a bit sweeter and peppier than most. There’s also a softness on the tongue that tingles and warms but does not overwhelm. Overall GREAT! Maybe a skotch better than regular SS but not worth any price gouging. I saved this bottle for my 300th rating. Badge please Grover!! May 2022

Sampled this right out of the still at La Fortaleza! It was minutes old. What’s in the bottle is wonderful but it’s amazing how much it changes as it stabilizes. Without the luxury of stabilizing, coming right from the still is much more bright, crisp, and vibrant. It’s not better, it’s not worse, just very different. Bright pepper, oily agave, and citrus as always. Gracias Miros y Guillermo!

One of my favourite blancos. Complex and fun to drink. Smell: it's mostly fresh, floral and somehow woody too. taste: light sweet cooked agave remains forever, a bit licorice a bit of yerbabuena a bit of milky chocolate so many flavours going on. finish: it stays in your throat for a long time, nice warm sensation without being burny.
