I love La Alteña and everything Carlos produces. This is a well rounded reposado with flavors and aromas of anise up front, giving way to cake batter, yellow raisins, agave and mint. Think liquified fruitcake.
Great herbal flavor
Very sweet, not something I expect from La Alteña. There's a vanilla cake batter aroma and flavor that lingers on the palate. I'm not a fan of this, sadly.
Sweet melon nose and cake batter flavor, especially at the finish. A little too sweet for me.
LOT VLR-003, bottled on 17/07/2015. Aged for 11 months. Color: light yellow. Aroma: light sweet cooked agave, green melon, green aspects, minty, fresh & crisp. 30 minutes in the glass the agave notes become sweeter, light black pepper. Palate: light sweet cooked agave, ethanol sensation is medium but balances out, although it has a resinous sweetness but doesn’t last long & is slightly thin in the mouth, light vanilla & wood notes, Finish is medium to medium long, light sweet cooked agave with light vanilla & wood notes persist.
Nose: white chocolate and lights hints of mint and vanilla. Alcohol sensation is semi strong but gentle to the nose. Flavor: well rounded, hints of vanilla and caramel. Finish: long finish with little taste of wood but it is pleasing.
On the nose you get a beautiful cooked agave with a slight vegetative note and a backdrop of vanilla and oak. upon first sip you’re greeted with a raw agave taste balanced with some barrel spice and develops a warmth with some oak and vanilla and a vague caramel sweetness. On the finish the agave starts dissipating and left with a warm oak and slight caramel sweetness. Overall very well balanced in age where you can taste the agave but complimented and well rounded by the barrels notes.
Makes the best paloma
Good. Long finish. Alot of heat.
Agave sweetness, vanilla and oak notes make this reposado an easy sipper that is very approachable.
earthy pepper smooth
*Old open bottle given to me from a friend - batch of 24/11/2015. Exciting to try another La Alteña deliciousness from Carlos Camarena. The aromas are cozy and inviting. It has the warm of your grandma living room with a chimney. It has agave, camomile, caramel, butter, nice warm alcohol, the aromas are soft and gentle. Very subtle. It does make you salivate wanting to try it. The taste is beautiful, it’s nice, it’s gentle. It’s exactly what will you except from the nose. It’s something you could be drinking all the time. Not sweet, woody or too much vanilla. It’s incredible balance. The finish is still there, it covers all your mouth with elegance. It’s just an amazing reposado for an after dinner on a autumn night among great company to enjoy a great movie or conversation. Like it a lot!
Movie theatre butter, mineral, grass, eucalyptus, on the nose and palate Very stringent, taste the tahona style come through
Smells quite smooth and Smokey, oak taste and a bit of caramel with a smooth finish but a bit bitter flavour
This reposado is what the companies that use additives wish that they were. Typically if you smell or taste cake batter that’s a sure sign that there are additives in use, but in this case you get a cake like flavor that is perfectly natural and delicious. Great reposado here!
Surprisingly delicious. On the sweet side but still rich with hints of vanilla and caramel. Aroma is not as strong as the anjeho but taste is wonderfull, enough complex.
Vanilla with notes of oak
smooth and gentle sip
Smell: Birthday cake, sweet vanilla, agave Taste: citrus, sweet agave, dessert tequila, easy drinking, aftertaste clove and vanilla. Initial smell and taste very sweet, as you swallow, the spice and citrus comes through

citrus aroma, light oak scent. very similar to the Blanco, slight oak flavor. oak and olive aftertaste

Loses just a hint of its magic once it touches oak. This is my favourite kind of Reposado, it tastes like Blanco.
