Immediately notice this one is a very dark XA. (Tasting along side a 2012 Ocho XA ant the color difference is dramatic). Aroma filled with “typical” barrel notes - fruit, oak, and baking spices. One note that stands out is mint. Syrupy mouthfeel that begins sweet (fruit, caramel) and transitions fairly quickly to some peppery heat. Lingers for just a minute but the finish is pretty short. Overall, pretty blah. Nothing bad here but also nothing really good. I’ve reviewed the Ocho and I’ll just say there is no comparison. 2023-02-19

Number Juan Tried this flight in Dec 2018 when I met Alex in Vegas. UPDATE: I'm not sure which lotes I tried 3 yrs ago, but sounds like those batches were better than what some others tasted more recently. ______________________ The entire line is decent. I liked the repo best. blanco a little hot, anejo a little more

Smells great— nutty, fruity, and sweet. I’m tasting honey, cherry, toasted almonds, caramel, nutmeg, pepper, oak, and cognac. There’s a trace of agave but the barrel has more impact here. This is a very easy drinker with lots of flavor that will draw in newbies but still delivers enough for the enthusiasts.

Definite pronounced wood flavor, not very sweet so would guess mainly oak. Peppery and even burn finish. Just enough sweetness as to not dominate but balances it well and helps preserves its aging/maturity. It just tastes aged well/properly if that makes sense.

Neat $25 at Picante. Aroma light on the nose with nutmeg, pineapple, peach, butter and light agave. Palate sweet with peach, vanilla, caramel, kind of cognac like taste with lots of cinnamon. Finish is nice peppery sweet, lots of pearls and thin legs.

The nose is descent, sweet. The taste is pretty good, with hints of vanilla, butterscotch and oak. The rasp is more pronounced than I prefer. I expected it to be smoother.

Wow what a great Tequila! Aged 5 years! Lots of Vanilla, Caramel and Toasted Oak aromas. This is a world class tequila. Flavors of Vanilla & Caramel linger with still a distinct agave flavor. You know you are drinking a tequila. The oak aging doesn’t mask the beautiful agave. The agave comes through throughout the pure enjoyment of this Extra Anejo. You can make friends with this Extra Anejo! Any Bourbon drinker will love this! No mixing here.

A lot of pepper and cinnamon on the nose, I can tell there’s a harsh alcohol undertone on the nose that goes Unnoticed on the mouth because of the super sweet caramelly flavor. Reminds me of Fireball in a neutral way, but underwhelming as a whole. Especially as an extra añejo.

Number Juan Extra Anejo is what you would expect from an additive heavy celebrity tequila. It is made for Ron White and costs around $100. The nose is pleasant with an instant artificial sugar note like vanilla frosting. You get caramel, and brown sugar at first, but that quickly is overpowered by a strong ethanol burn. The tasting notes start off with a strong ethanol bite with a fair amount of heat and pepper. The softer notes then quickly present themselves with cake batter, vanilla frosting, and taste very strongly of artificial additive sweeteners. There is a distinct lack of agave in the nose or flavor. The heavier notes then take over which are mostly charred wood, medium smoke, pepper, and heat. There is a bitter finish with a thick sweetness that coats the mouth and makes the bitterness linger. For a $100 extra anejo, I would hope for more depth of flavor, less bite, and more agave. Instead you end up with an artificial tasting sweet and syrupy tequila that lacks agave notes, and is heavy on tart wood notes.

Create vanilla and oak aroma. The oak, pepper, and vanilla stands out, all sharing the same space, not overpowering each other.

There is a lot of barrel notes and what seems to be a bit of bourbon there. The taste is a bit sweet with the usual barrel flavors and a faint aftertaste of bourbon. The finish is sweet and lingers nicely.

given to me by a friend , very much appreciated , nice flavor from being aged in Bourbon barrel's . The more I drink this the nicer it is , let it warm when sipping very smooth and complex flavor .

Citrus agave aroma with nutmeg and maybe hint of pineapple. Lots of fruit, spice, oak and earthy notes. The spice lingers on the finish and is very nice.
