The highest end bottles of agave spirit are best enjoyed on their own. Here’s a look at some of the world’s best sipping tequilas.
Until recently, we hadn’t cared much for reposado — tequila that has been aged in oak barrels from 2 to 12 months. It seems too middle-of-the-road: like blanco (no barrel aging) without the bite, añejo (aged for longer than a year) without the flavor. But
Nose: agave cooked / vanilla / caramel / hint of cinnamon/ hint of earth/ banana/ apple/ orange peel / hint of lime / spearmint/ hay / tea/ baking spice / nutmeg/ molasses/ cream soda Taste: sweet cooked agave / vanilla/ caramel/ cinnamon/ peppermint/ earth and oak/ banana/ apple / lime / hint of orange peel/ anise/ tea / nutmeg/ baking spice / hint of chocolate/ molasses/ hazelnut/ salt/ hint of cream soda Finish: enjoyable cool water effect with watery wet mouthfeel/ sweetness throughout the whole taste, no bitter excessive oaky or earthiness, lingering agave sweetness and oaky light bitterness stay on until the rather abrupt final finishing swallow where there’s a light minty freshness This repo is quite good with lots of sweetness in balance with the slightly bitter finale that portrays that every taste isn’t in balance. The bitter sweetness doesn’t linger long and yields to a fast finish that’s enjoyable.
