After 40 plus years of drinking tequila, next to Patron, Don Julio is probably the tequila I have consumed the most of. In my mid 30s and early 40s these two brands were what I thought were the best. After going to the traditional side of tequila, I haven’t looked back on my old standard DJ although I will drink Patron in a pinch because it is half way decent. The nose on this is like a cinnamon apple cake. The taste is ok but still has an artificial taste to it. This taste nothing like the tequila that I drink these days but I can see why a person that doesn’t know what tequila is supposed to taste like might think this is great. It is easy to drink and goes down smoothly. Probably just what Don Julio was looking for. For me, it’s a pass.

Nose: Light clean agave pepper with olive and grassy undertones Flavor: Thick heavy mouth feel. Mild agave, pepper, lemon citrus, potentially some cake batter elements.

I picked up a half size on sale for $19, and I regret it. On the nose, agave is there, some citrus and a bit of maybe pepper, but there’s ethanol and an astringent note that I’m not fond of. A little pepper. It opens up after a while and is more or less fine on the nose. On the palate, cooked agave is there, the citrus is there, not much else going on. A little ethanol. Slightly bitter finish. Overall this is…fine. It’s clean, it’s okay. Trying after Don Nacho which was quite good and half the price, this is a huge letdown, but nothing a few limes and agave nectar can’t fix. I’m only going to say “Yes” on recommend because it is a clean and inoffensive, and widely available. Patron is better imo but this is fine.

Very alcohol forward and harsh without the benefit of a strong agave or pepper flavor. Plenty of value priced tequilas that I world recommend before this. Probably fine for mixing

People throw around the phrase cooked agave but this one is the epitomize of the description! Vegetal and pure tasting. But doesn't taste like family to the anejo.

Solid tequila. Sweet, good amount of pepper and a bit of spice. If I can’t find an artisanal tequila I’ll happily go with Don Julio Blanco.

Slight pepper and citrus notes. A light, clean Blanco. Great for sipping on ice with a splash of club and a squeeze of lime.

Second tasting at tequila club. Sticking with same score. Aroma is bad with funk and some agave. Taste is mediocre with a bit of sweetness. Finish is non existent except for a hint of bitterness.

Aroma : Alcohol, agave, earth, and some medical aromas predominate. Taste : Cooked agave and alcohol are the top 2 flavors, but there is also some degree of citrus, vegetal, and earth. A little more one dimensional than I would like. Finish : Very light with some citrus and alcohol. I can find this for around $45 a bottle, and while this certainly a good tequila, it's a tad overpriced for what you get, and there are far better tequilas to be had at this price.

Aroma: Agave, asparagus, lime, zest, grape fruit and green tea. Palate: Agave, citrus, sugar cane, camomile, avocado cream, asparagus, vegetal, and pepper dominate the paladar, but finish with a slight burn and alcohol after taste

This Tequila is a little on the sweet side for me but this appeals to most consumers. Widely available and approachable, this is a safe bet for any level of Tequila drinker.

Agave and alcohol aromas. The alcohol comes through in the flavor and overpowers. Finish doesn't linger very long. Average price for a shot in restaurant.

This used to be like comfort food when I really didn’t want to think too much about what I was drinking. But in recent years, this blanco has taken on some suspect aromas and flavors: cotton candy and a bitter finish.

Quite a bit of yeast on the nose. This is an older mini sample bottle from not too long after Diageo took over distribution of DJ. The yeast continues in the mouth, it is almost like drinking bread and I say this while mostly sober.

The aroma is sharp and harsh with notes of bread/yeast and medicinal alcohol. There is some agave aroma here but it is overwhelmed by the other notes. The flavor opens with a bitter almond taste with a bit of butter and sweetness. Both these flavors remain as a strong, peppery spice follows. The finish is medium length and leaves a bitter aftertaste. 8/6/2015

An earthy aroma of agave and citrus. Mild sweet agave flavor with black pepper and citrus. The finish is short with a crisp bite.

Green agave aroma very present, not much to my liking. There's a sweetness to it as well, which is also present when tasted. The flavor is quite flat and simple. The finish is quite rough.

Review #176 - Don Julio Tequila Blanco

Don Julio is just a solid brand and tequila at all levels. It's good for mixing and sipping. It's easy to find and pleasing on many levels.
