Beautiful nose. Of agave and oak. I get vanilla and Caramel and nutmeg. This smells like a crème brûlée. On the palate I get agave, cherry and nutmeg. It has vanilla and oak. This is quite tasty and for the price it is exceptional. This rate high because of the price.

Pedro furtivo anejo Sample from Matt Cavanaugh April 2025 The first time I tried this, i got a lot of alcohol in the profile. The next time I tried it, there was still some alcohol, but it was subdued. Nose: fruity, barrel spices, cinnamon, some alcohol. Palate: agave, vanilla, caramel, creme brulée, some coconut and alcohol on the end. I would have rated it higher, except for the alcohol in the profile.

Tonight's pour comes from NOM 1360 Corporacion Ansan, Pedro Furtivo Añejo. Pedro Furtivo, while only being available in Georgia and Tennessee is quickly making a name for themselves! Their recent online ordering with Free Shipping has helped jump start a successful future! Their offering compared to the pricing far exceeds expectations! I reviewed both their Blanco and Reposado back in December and was so surprised how much I was going to enjoy them! And boy do I!!! As a reminder, Agavero Omar Martinez has the family land where the agave is grown. Only ripe mature agave is used for making their Tequila. On average only 6-7 year old Piñas are harvested. Peter Kiley is part of husband and wife team with Rachel Kiley that are partnered in with Omar. Peter has the back ground in wine production as well as beer brewing. He comes with a lot of Chemistry background, which was his concentration in study at the University of Georgia. Rachel brought her management and business background from working at Monday Night Brewing alongside Peter to Pedro Furtivo. The Añejo is their newest release. The production of this begins the same as any of their other expressions. Ripe Agaves are harvested. The Agave is then slow-cooked in Stone/Brick Ovens before being macerated with Roller Mills with Deep Well Water being added. The Fermentation process is in Stainless Steel Tanks with Propiertary Yeasts being added. Once Fermentation has completed, the Mosto is then Distilled twice in Copper Pot Stills. This produces their Blanco that is then placed in 2 types of Barrels. The First being French Oak Bordeaux Barrels that had previously held Red Wine. And the other being American Oak Bourbon Barrels. One of the goals that Peter wanted in this Añejo was to offer an Añejo with Extra Añejo nuisances. In Blending the 1331 Añejo and after an extensive tasting on their inventory a blending of 13 month old Red Wine Barrels were selected to compliment the flavors of their 31 month Bourbon Barrels. A ratio of 90% Bourbon to 10% Red Wine Barrels was settled upon. WOW!!! Mission accomplished!!! Aroma: Using 31 month old aged tequila allows the barrel influence stand out without overpowering the Agave. Oak notes do meet you first, but the Agave is still present. Orange Peel, Vanilla, Cinnamon, Nutmeg and a slight touch of Clove allow this to feel nice and warm! The Caramel, Toffee, and Creme Brule add this sweetness to the nose that will remind you of that after dinner dessert at your favorite steakhouse! There is a definite touch of similar notes that can be associated with Bourbon. A nice slight Soft Leather touch with light Tobacco, Ripe Banana, Peach and Cherry were all present. Taste: Very similar to the nose out the gates! Oak and Agave are surrounded by Cinnamon and Orange Peel. A sweet touch of Vanilla, Caramel, and rich Toffee play so nicely on the tongue! There is a coffee note that enters as well. A touch of stronger Barrel Notes allow this to show you the 31 months in Bourbon Barrels. Towards the end the more delicate Stone Fruit flavors immerge with a light Floral taste. Finish: From start to finish the Agave, Oak, Cinnamon and Orange Peel take you on this very nice journey that lasts for a nice ride! For the Tequila Lover that wants Barrel influence, this should be any easy grab! Pedro Furtivo Añejo will make an excellent after dinner sipper or an excellent sipper anytime! This would work in any cocktail that utilizes Bourbon. And I certainly look forward to seeing this evolve with time! While we are heading into Sunmer, I do look forward to sipping this right next to the next bonfire this fall! TMM-87 Salud!!!
