i just realized i hadn't reviewed this expression, and I was one of the first to try it at el Pandillo. The agaves used in this General Gorostieta high-proof blanco are from Luis Torres (brand owner for General Gorostieta) Rancho El Estribo in Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico, at 7,200 ft elevation. Though listed as 7 year old agave on the label, these agave were actually eight year old plants (and had lots of red spots on them, the way you want 'em to be - I was there at El Estribo in the field with Luis and Felipe and watched Felipe point this out just before harvest, and yes, i felt like the luckiest student watching a master pick agave for his next project! And i digress Lol), and Luis didn't use pesticides on the field. When harvested, the agave measured 45 brix, which is very sweet! My tasting notes: Nose: at first I got vegetal, minerality with some cinnamon, pepper, mild heat, and when it sat and opened, I got sweet cooked agave, tropical fruit and a little anise. It kept evolving! Palate: agave forward= sweet cooked agave, anise, some citrus and minerality and fruit. Finish: sweet with a pepper kick Nice viscosity with Legs for days Overall an incredibly easy sipper. Doesn't drink like a high-proof
Tasted blind at Dustin’s Fuerte Fiesta! Knocked my socks off! Great all around and the taste is amazing!so much sweet agave and a softness that is beautiful. Subtle and strong at the same time-sorcery!
Vessel: HP CT Jarrito Nose: Agave, Artichoke, Brine Citrus, Grass, Mint Palate: Pepper, Minerality, Grass Finish: Grass, Grapefruit, Anise It's beyond me why it's taken me so long to review this. This particular HP seemed to raise the already incredbly high bar for me as far as 1579 HPs go, just edging out the Volans SS and basically tying with the Don Vicente Fuerte that came out around the same time. This was a bit less sweet and more vegetal than the Don Vicente Fuerte. I enjoy both equally depending on the mood that I'm in. 2024 was such a fantastic year for Anejos!
On the nose it’s floral and fruity with a high proof punch. Taste starts very mineral and follows with that high sugar agave sweetness and some pepper. Another high proof powerhouse out of 1579! What sets it apart is the 8-year old agave grown at 7,200 feet on brand owner Luis Torres’ private estate harvested with an astonishing 45 brix high sugar content.
This is a really great introduction to what General Gorostieta tequila and El Pandillo can do together. Amazing flavor. This first batch used agaves from brand owners hacienda in Arandas.
The eight year agaves that went into producing this sweet cooked agave tasting high proof blanco, is simply amazing. You get no heat on the palate. A long lingering finish, so enjoyable. Another amazing tequila by Felipe and Luis.
Nose: funk, agave, minerals, white pepper, lime rind, olive, musty, Palate: Full mouth feel with a nice agave punch. Peppermint, green pepper, vegetal Finish: Nice heat (black pepper) inside the cheeks of your mouth and the top of your palate. Fun sipper but not my favorite HP coming from El Pandillo.
On the nose this is nice sweet agave. Mint, Cinnamon and citrus. Banana. Light earth and minerals. On the tongue beautiful sweet agave. More earthy and buttery. I get citrus. Maybe grapefruit. Nice mouthfeel. Does have that 1579 taste. I like this one.
Nice rich agave nose. Sweetness on palate with a long pepper finish. High Brix content. It’s nice
Agave citrus and floral notes. It’s sweet and doesn’t drink like a high proof. V nice.
Agave forward on the nose - naturally sweet, with earth, brine, vegetal and mild alcohol notes. Real nice adhesion in the glass. Creamy mouthfeel. The palate follows the nose, with a nice thick texture. Drinks lower than the 104 proof might otherwise tell. Finish is long and cinnamon-spicy. Lingers nicely with great warmth, no burn. Real nice sipper and great old-school quality. Extra bump for price.
nose of agave, minerals, citrus, anise, pepper. palate follows suit. high viscosity. a bit more alcohol on the palate than I get with the other 1579 HPs. more heat, too. still very nice, complex, intensely flavorful. spicy pepper finish and lingering agave sweetness. quite nice.
Agave forward aroma. Very strong flavor with lots of spice. Slightly sweet with a long finish.
Minerals , spice , mint , citric acid, floral and fruity.
A tequila with soul and story — the dedication to Cristero War hero General Enrique Gorostieta is unmistakable in the bottle and case design. His legacy, marked by courage and conviction, sets the perfect backdrop for sipping this remarkable spirit. The move to NOM 1579 marked a monumental shift, resulting in an extraordinary impact. The collaboration between Louis Torres and Felipe Camarena proved to be an instant success. Crafted from single estate, overripe Los Altos agaves at 45 Brix, crushed by the legendary “Frankenstein” tahona at El Pandillo and distilled with deep well water, this tequila honors tradition with precision. Tasting Notes: • Nose: Sweet and herbal, with layered aromas of vanilla, citrus, and rich cooked agave. • Palate: Exceptionally clean and sweet up front, followed by pepper, spice, a touch of plum, and a savory hint of brine. This is more than tequila — it’s a tribute, a craft, and a conversation.
Agave bomb , has to open up. Getting wet cement, rain water notes. A lot hotter than the Joven Alcohol bite, little bitter 104 proof Mimic G4 high proof Minty, grassy , butterscotch Getting better 2nd glass
Pepper and agave. This stuff is amazing!
8 year agaves estate grown make for a top high proof
Presenta aromas frescos de agave cocido, notas cítricas y un toque de hierbas. En boca es suave, con un equilibrio perfecto entre dulzura y frescura.
Nose is sweet agave, pepper and minerals. Taste is sweet agave, pepper and citrus. Nice drinkable HP. The glass was a Chisholm High Proof Jarrito
Amazing what very ripe agaves can produce. This tequila smells like pure agave. The taste is full of sweet agave with some pepper, minerals and citrus. One of the easiest drinking high proof tequilas I have had. Excellent.

This stuff is delicious! Awesome nose of sweet cooked agave, some pepper and fresh citrus. On the palette I got a ton of sweet cooked agave, honey, lemon and almost a cinnamon finish. Pretty unique.
