Absolutely love the nose on this. So much cooked agave on the nose. This is an agave bomb with a finish that just lingers and evolves. Nose: tons of cooked agave, earth, lime, mint, anise, minerals, and butter. Palate: cooked agave, black pepper, earth, vegetal, citrus, minerals, butter, mint, anise, and olive. Such a great high proof with a great finish. Can’t go wrong with this one. I was able to pick this up for $55 so extra points for value.
Another fantastic offering from Ocho’s now marquee annual release. Puntas is a testament to the Camarena family’s skill and age old traditional methods. It is us, the consumer, whom reaps the reward of the ancestral production methods passed down through their family tree.
Tasted at “Mexico In A Bottle” S.F. 2024
Puntas 2021 set the standard, and both the 2023 and 2024 fall short in comparison. 2024 maintains a lot of heat well after opening up. I get a lot of Anise, some black pepper, but too much heat impacts the balance.
Great brand but this one is a big miss for me. 21 > 23 > 24.
First impressions, slightly more heat than the 2021 & 2023, alcohol blows off, black pepper, anise, light sweet after taste
2024 Mirandillas, 108p, rested in glass 15 minutes N- agave, brine, butter, citrus, definitely more earthy than it's 80p counterpart T- immediately agave and herbs, citrus, a little alcohol zip, cinnamon, and earth MF- creamy mouth feel F- spicy pepper fading to milk chocolate? Wild but so good V- $75 in Michigan so pretty worth it to me
first taste of puntas 2024 neck-n-neck with puntas 2023 for me. i will revisit in a few weeks and update my review with notes
Lots of great flavors. But I think I actually prefer the regular proof on this one. I know… i’m shocked as well!
Nose: Agave, Alcohol, Lime, Earth, Minerality, Anise, Wet Cement, Mint Herbs, and Butter Mouthfeel: Medium-to full-bodied Palate: Lime, Pepper, Minerals, Alcohol and Heat. Finish: Agave, Cantaloupe, Minerals, and Anise Well, this one certainly got a lot of hype as the Puntas release typically does. The nose is so pungent, minty, and herbal. There is a burn that seems to dissipate more with prolonged opening. This one seemed to sked its skin after the neck pour. It's great but it seems to be getting even better with time. I may have to update my review at some point!
Same packed with agave Puntas nose that brings agave for days. Very creamy palate with some sweetness and a nice warmth that follows through on the backend. The grass and vegetal notes I don’t love from previous releases seem toned down so this is nice. That finish lingers and continues on. I like this. I like it a lot. It’s hot. The finish is toasty and the palate is creamy. Let it open for a few minutes
Great nose! Agave bomb, sweet, buttercream, anise, citrus, floral, nice stuff - on the pallet - earthy, minerals, agave, briney, olive, spicy, black pepper, medium finish, overall great tequila. Close to ‘21 but I still give the OG the edge.
Agave, spearmint, earthiness, butter with a lil heat.
Bursting with tropical citrus notes this one for me is a CRUSHABLE high proof blanco!
The nose on this is very pleasing with the right amount of sweetness and earthiness. I get fruit like ripe banana. I get mint on the nose along with honey. On the palate, this one absolutely explodes. I get cooked agave, earth and minerals. It is buttery and floral. I get black pepper and cinnamon. This is a high ABV and it lets you know it. I am comparing this against 2023 and it is very different. For only a slight increase in ABV it feels like much more but in a good way. This is a great sipper but if you want a HP mixer, this may be the best. The finish is a light mouthfeel but oh so present. Get ready for this one as it is formidable. Great job Ocho.
Nose: earth/ vegetal/ agave raw / mineral/ melon / citrus / lime/ bell pepper/ brine Taste: sweet agave cooked / vanilla/ cinnamon/ peppermint / banana/ green apple/ lime / anise/ bell pepper/ cream soda / alcohol Finish: low level viscosity mouthfeel that iis still velvety but not oily / sweet agave, anise, and vanilla dominate the palate while the cinnamon and peppermint notes take a minute to catch up / pepper and alcohol notes carry on past the final swallow. This 2024 edition of Puntas is better than the previous editions for the fact that the flavors are significantly more bold and enjoyable. There is an anise and sweet agave moment that is huge at the beginning of the sip that is significant….not quite a ‘bomb’ but on a very highly enjoyable level. I think this 2024 version is fantastic!
Tasting notes coming soon…
Nose: Pre swirl impression has acidity with hints of acetic acid. Post swirl introduces dry minerals, earthiness and herbal notes. Thyme and mint. Light colored fruit including pineapple, green apples and lime zest. An enigmatic floral tease that I can’t quite sus out. An ethereal powdered sugar like sweetness as it opens up. Flavor: Not surprisingly, at 108 proof, a short blast of ethanol heat. A silky mouth feel, mouth watering salinity wrapped in tantalizing marzipan cream. A touch of nuttiness and cocoa powder? Signature cooked agave backbone.
Amazing sweet agave nose. Some vegetal notes and citrus. Easy on the palate. Stronger vegetal and herbal flavor. Some citrus. Shorter finish than I was expecting for a high proof. Touch weak. Overall, not bad. Not absolutely amazing though.
Anything Ocho is a winner. This is amazing and kicks like a mule. Price is a bit steep but enjoy it. Much like Pulp Fiction. You’ll know where that extra money went.
Lot BLA-052P 22/07/2024 Aroma: pure agave with a creamy butteryness, slight clove , and an alcohol tingle on the nose Flavor: tons of agave, some sugary sweetness, and more baking spice like clove and nutmeg Mouthfeel: medium to light body with a fair amount of alcohol burn Finish: the alcohol burn lingers a while and then leaves with a lingering agave and sweet character Color: clear
Nice agave on the nose with citrus notes, this is a winner, 108 proof but without being overwhelming with the heat
Warm chocolate and hazelnut aroma, sweet agave with salted caramel on the palate. Absolutely delicious. Finish is creamy but a little boozy - worth it though. At $100+ in NYC, can’t give it the highest Value score. My favorite Ocho.
Bottle: Bottle 26431, LOT BLA-052P, 22/07/2024 Appearance: Clear Nose: Cooked and raw agave, vanilla, white pepper, brine/salinity, caramel-covered green apple, spearmint, licorice, cinnamon, anise, chocolate-hazelnut spread, minerality, vegetal, bell pepper, thyme, melon, honey, and light citrus…the alcohol presence decreased substantially after the neck pour Palate: Cooked and raw agave, cinnamon, black and white pepper, bitter cacao, alcohol, licorice, peppermint, vanilla, banana, baking spice, minerality, butter, nutmeg, orange peel, Finish: Cooked agave, black pepper, citrus, alcohol, jalapeño, and chipotle pepper…creamy, sweet, and spicy with an oily mouthfeel and medium to long finish Overall: To me, alcohol presence in high proofs generally fall into 3 categories: 1) subdued, 2) balanced, While this is spectacular in its own right, I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as the 2021 and 2023 releases.

Ocho is great over all at 40abv or HP. Not quite as good to me as the first puntas.
