Cooked gave up front on the nose, berries, flowers. On the palate sweet cooked agave. Citrus, pineapple and floral notes. Great finish.
I don't get many high proof options in my area. This was a nice surprise. Aroma of cooked agave, minerals, vegetal, citrus and herbal. Surprisingly, no excess alcohol Aroma. Flavor of cooked agave, Oops, there's the alcohol, black pepper, citrus and minerals. Medium finish.
Nose has decent agave but palate is a bit musty. Nice heat to the finish
The nose is strong. It a nice mixture of green vegetal agave and cooked agave. There’s some green earthy notes, minerality and some underlying citrus rind. Some faint white pepper and sweet alcohol vapors appear. I taste vegetal and buttery agave, white pepper and alcohol along with the all of the sweetness that comes from mature baked agaves. The mouthfeel is nice and round. It’s viscous and buttery. The pepper and sweetness kick in and both carry into the finish. The proof helps to deliver these full flavors. This is a full flavored blanco but it’s not overwhelming or overpowering. It’s an excellent full flavored high proof blanco. Lot 1 was a Mexico only small batch release but Lot 2 will be larger and it’ll bless the US markets!
Nose: El Ateo High Proof Blanco presents an intense bouquet, leading with a robust essence of cooked agave intertwined with caramelized accents. Its minerality imparts a sense of terroir, while the alcohol, surprisingly, maintains a harmonious balance. Taste: On the palate, this tequila harmonizes beautifully, with the dominance of cooked agave complemented by delicate notes of sweet baking spices, notably clove, and a subtle, invigorating fresh touch of mint. The overall impression is one of delightful complex profile. It offers a bold yet refined expression that will captivate aficionados with a nice tasting experience.
High-proof blanco tasting may 2024 NOM 1635 This is the only tequila produced at this distillery! Lote 1? L-80224AB 50% ABV Guanajuato agave let it open and breathe 30-45 mins. No lie! Really give this one time to breathe. Nose got better as it opened Nose: at first it is alcohol forward with some sweet agave and pepper. As it opened, it got complex. I got fruit, floral notes, anise, a little vegetal (green pepper) and some minerality. I kept getting more as it opened. Taste: sweet cooked agave, some banana and anise. The alcohol isn't as prevelent on the palate. It's actually very warm and nice. Finish: Nice warm finish that carries on Other: Legs slow and thick. Nice viscosity nice mouthfeel
Known internally as "The Big Bang" this is lote 01. This amps the regular Blanco to 11. Entry is smooth and then explodes in the mouth with as much roast agave as I can recall from recent high proof offerings. Natural sweetness dominates and then eases into a long lingering finish. Well done.
Nose: Green vegetal elements. Intense agave sweetness with a touch of acidity. Herbals front and center. Crushed gravel after a summer rain. Slightly carbonic minerality, and earthy herbs. No ethanol excess - nicely integrated into profile. Flavor: The first introductory sips deliver fiery cinnamon/chile pepper heat and penetrating agave sweetness - much like a marriage brokered in Dante’s Inferno. Give this the breathing room it deserves for the underlying herbs, spices and verdant notes to emerge. Oregano, rosemary and thyme join forces with the opulent 39 brix Guanajuato agaves. Citrus, apple, pineapple and a skosh of mint, make peekaboo appearances throughout. Creaminess, medium oils and a dash of salinity rest pleasurably on the palate.
Agave swap Nose: tons of cooked agave, vegetal, citrus Taste: cooked agave, citrus, vegetal Finish: slight smoke, citrus
An interesting taste and aroma. Almost like a cinnamon bread. It’s different than most tequilas but wow it’s delicious and complex
Nose: cooked agave, earthy, peppery, anise, slight alcohol. Palate: sweet agave, peppery, earthy, anise, slight citrus, smooth alcohol kick.
Easy sipper for the proof. Expected a different profile based on the stats. This had lots of sweet agave, honey, stonefruit, wild flowers, camomile. Reminded me of notes from Pasote SS and Suerte SS. Very enjoyable, but my preferred profile has sharper greens, grass, minerality, and mint.
Vegetal with secondary agave and earthy. Many better high proofs available.
Herbal, savory, and delicious!!
Lote 1 Mexico exclusive. This brand and its owner are awesome. Single brand nom what more needs to be said.
I was told this is the first Mexican lot: L-80224AB, bottled on 22-02-2024, tasted on 6-26-24. Aromas: acidity, light sourness, light earthiness, hint of citrus, intense herbal notes, after 20 minutes in the glass cooked agave notes emerge with a hint of sweetness, but overall I feel that herbal and sour notes tend to dominate. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, slightly minty, light green vegetal notes, good sweet and sour balance with the sourness slightly dominating, probably due to herbal & sour notes it ends a tad dry. Through my retronasal I smell a hint of sweet cooked agave note. Thick mouthfeel. Finish is medium to long, cooked agave with light herbal notes, hint of green vegetal notes, light sourness with a minty sensation persists. 83 points. Update on 12-24-24: I tasted this bottle again today, the bottle is half empty and has allowed the tequila to homogenize, it is rounder, the herbal and sour notes have softened thus allowing other aromas and flavors to shine through and is more aromatic! The aroma is intense straightforward cooked agave with light sweetness, sourness has turned into agave fiber aroma during fermentation, and is confirmed on the palate, rounder and more balanced. I will gladly re-taste this tequila to see how it changes and if it does improve more! 86 points.
The Big Bomb Mexican bottle Lot 1. It's definitely a winner with a nice agave sweetness after letting it open up.
El Ateo - Still Strength This was a blind tasting with: Siembra Valles High Strength (49.5%) and El Caballito Cerrero Chato (50%) LOT: 1 View: Good adhesion but at 50% is expected. Completely transparent. Freshly served; Aroma: Subtle cooked agave, minerality and black pepper. Taste: An extremely pleasant sweetness, followed by a very well-balanced herbality, cooked agave, minerality, copper and at the end a light citrus that could be orange oil that stays stuck to the tongue for a long time. I let it sit for 20 minutes. Aroma: Time definitely opened up the aroma, now there is an aroma of cooked agave very present like being in the distillery at the moment they are taking the piñas out of the oven. Minerality. Herbal. A little wild yeasty. Flavor: An exceptional sweetness, with many nuances, I notice pepper and green herbs. I let it oxygenate and rest for 15 more minutes. I think it can open up even more. A simply spectacular flavor.

Vessel: CT Jarrito Nose: Agave, Artichoke, Grass, Anise, Floral Palate: Agave, Cinnamon, Vanilla, Finish: Agave, Anise, Cinnamon Vanilla, Earth, Almond This is quite the agave bomb, especially on the nose. The palate and finish introduce many more earthy and spice notes. All in all, this is a fairly complex and very enjoyable SS blanco.
