10/2024 tasted blind in the TMM high-proof blinds rated 82 pts SS-05 I let this sit 30+min nose = very familiar! strong nose, funky, fruit/cantelope? what is it?! palate = sweet and funky! so familiar! cantelope and cheese finish = delayed. at first there's nothing. then the pepper kicks in. then anise, and it lingers awhile

Nose: smoke / lactic/ butter / vegetal/ apple / citrus/ hay / earth / alcohol Taste: smoke / tobacco/ sweet cooked agave and vanilla / peppermint/ earth / mineral/ apple / citrus / grapefruit/ anise / vegetal/ hint of tobacco / salt Finish: very low viscosity mouthfeel / lingering pepper/peppermint and smokiness / the sweet cooked agave and hints of vanilla and fruit stay on the palate for a short time but they’re great. This high proof blanco has a lot of individual flavors all firing onto your tastebuds at nearly the same time…this doesn’t allow for it to seem to have harmony and balance, but the flavors that are there are bold and distinctive.

Nice nose, agave, anise, cinnamon, floral, citrus, hints of smoke, very aromatic, pallet same notes, but heavy smoke on front of tongue, followed by agave, spices, light floral/citrus notes. All in all solid sipper but the smoke overpowers the bright notes to me which drops it a few points. Reminds me of Siempre En Vivo but just not quite on that level.

Tasted this in a blind for a Fuerte Friday challenge. This was my first time with this tequila. It is very unique and I almost thought it was a mezcal. Lots of smoke on the nose. It does smell of cooked agave and citrus. Maybe a little yeasty with a bit of alcohol. Taste wise it carry through on the smoke. I also get agave and some pepper. This is an earthy tequila and may not be everyone’s cup of tequila. For me, I like it and look forward to another pour.

Had somewhat high Hope's for this and the añejo. Heat comes through with light agave. Not very complex. Notes are too subtle and although I enjoy HP blancos, the heat and salty pepper just overpowered everything else. Better HP blancos out there i.e. Ocho, G4, Cascahuin plata & Tahona, Gran Dovejo, Terralta etc. most for less...

Ummm. What the heck?! There is nothing like this in the tequila world! Really good! Aroma is cooked agave with cherries jubilee and vanilla whipping cream made with a hint of rum. Taste is good and also very different with burnt sugar, campfire and black pepper. The finish is long and goes a bit sweet as it lingers.

Light smoke on the nose, citrus and spice, light heat, balanced flavors. Very enjoyable, opens up nicely. Cooked agave notes, earth, minerality, tried fruit, light pepper, and citrus

Really wanted to like this but the smoke in this bottle 257 is just overwhelming to the point that it almost tastes and smells rubbery. I let it sit out for a bit to see if the composition would change at all but no luck.

Really liking this. Nice smoke that’s not over powering, agave, and a fruitiness like green apple that shines through. L

The family at NOM 1477, where Amatiteña is produced, has taken a unique approach in exploring different components of the tequila process. Their automatic-tahona, blew our minds, due to the engineering aspects behind it, but also the passion showcased by them to develop a profile while taking an innovative approach and respecting the artisanal tradition. We invite you to read our tasting review below. Blanco Origen (High Proof) Aroma: As you indulge into this high proof tequila (49%), you will experience a burst of aromas, whew all the layers work in a synchronized manner to provide a very enjoyable and complex profile. Due to their innovative process of being cooked in a steel oven with a direct flame, you would think it's mezcal, but be patient as it will take you through a unique journey. Please see aroma notes: roasted agave, light smoke, butter, caramelized walnuts, sweet dried citrus (as the orange peels from Trader Joes), melon, jalapeno/celery, black pepper, mineral, with musty and yeasty nuances. Flavors: We recommend letting the tequila 'breathe' for a couple minutes, while doing so also analyze how the flavor profile develops into indulgence. As you dive in, you will notice the aromas perceived before, are now mellowed in a positive manner. The roasted agave sweetness remains as it’s the stellar component, then evolves in sweet and savory taste of roasted pineapple, olives, sweet citrus (orange/mandarina) and licorice, that quickly transforms to spiced up notes of anise, clove, white pepper, with a very enjoyable finish of butterscotch & toffee notes. You will be amazed, we promise! After a couple sips, the smokiness that people might not be used to at the beginning, will dissipate and become part of the sipping experience. Texture is mouth-coating, with a medium to long finish that does leave a lingering memory.

This 49% ABV wasn’t hot. I picked up mint, red hots?, sweet agave, smoke—this was good for sipping but I’d imagine it would really pop in a cocktail! Drinks like a pit cooked mezcal. I enjoyed this during a tasting event at Osito’s Tap in Chicago. Very small sample where you can’t really pick up aromas. I’ll need to revisit a larger glass and see how my notes and ratings may change. But since there aren’t many ratings for this I wanted to leave some initial thoughts.

Lote A0100522, Bottle # 280 Nose: A burst of fresh citrus - fresh oranges and lemons & lime rinds. Dried candied citrus. Anise, nutmeg and a mellow vanilla note. Drippingly sweet agave brings hints of smoke from its wood fired horno cook. A faint metallic/mineral aroma. Barely noticeable lactic. Vivacious, yet a cohesive aroma profile. Flavors: A swaggering, boisterous entrance. Old fashioned, hard button licorice, a heavy grind of black pepper, a dash of salinity, fiery cinnamon and a punch in the face of agave. All delivered in a mouth filling, buttery package. Finish: The 49% ABV is integrated flawlessly in this high proof, making it dangerously easy to drink. Origen is a rustic but balanced sipper that lingers and lingers.

Very nice roast agave, a bit of ethanol along with tobacco? Earthiness? A bit hot on entry, once the palate settles down there is nice viscosity, very nice natural sweetness with a fading mellow finish.

This is super rustic and real. There’s smoke, agave, and a musty aroma to this. There’s also this particular type of aroma that comes from real wild yeast that is present here. Flavor is naturally sweet, with a huge amount of agave and smoke. Finish is just straight up agave that hangs there. At 49% abv, it drinks like a 40% tequila.

smoked cooked agave but not too strong mezcal taste, just a touch of mezcal world, minty definitely not too peppery mildly sweet, very nice for someone who likes freshness with a touch of mezcal

this low ranking is math from the options. otherwise i’d have said it was an ~85 overall. its not terrible, It’s fine, certainly drinkable, just not common tequila profile in todays tequila landscape. its trying too hard on the wood smoke side of things. I would not drink again nor recommend it other than to those in the rabbit hole or novelty purchase. It also reminds me nothing of mezcal except industrialized smoke bombs.
