This single barrel has a nice nose with agave, vanilla and caramel. Fruity. Such sweet agave. The taste is just as awesome. Sweet agave, vanilla, caramel, oak.fruits and flowers. Excellent viscosity.

Nose: agave / vanilla/ caramel/ oak / hints of earth and vegetal / banana/ pear / orange/ citrus / tea / anise / chamomile? / hint of floral/ baking spice / Nutmeg/ butterscotch/ chocolate/ maple / cream soda Taste: sweet agave cooked / vanilla/ peppermint/ minerals/ earth / banana/ pear / melon / lime / orange peel/ anise / lemongrass / tea / nutmeg/ baking spices / chocolate/ maple / cream soda Finish: watery wet mouthfeel and a taste that leans towards earthiness with notes of sweetness and more popping through the entire taste experience. There is a slight bitterness that lingers but the final swallow brings a harmonious resolve to everything. This single barrel reposado packs a tremendous amount of flavor and aromas into a modest budget tequila. This is a great sipper, but budget friendly enough you could use it in a drink that calls for a repo. At the very end of the taste there’s this ‘ah-h’ moment where everything kind of creates a unified taste finish….a harmony after the cacophony. Nice work El Tesoro!

Nose: Strong oak presence upfront, pepper, lemon citrus, mild vanilla and agave. Flavor: Met with agave right away, quickly followed with lemon and vanilla. As it settles more herbs and spice emerge. A little heat builds as the finish continues. Like a Kentucky hug in the bourbon world. Single barrels are always a lot of fun and something I look forward to. The variety and mystery is fun to explore. This one was solid but nothing too crazy. Worth trying back to back to the standard offering.

Selected by K&L Wine: Presenting a refined and inviting aromatic composition, the delicate aroma unfolds with nuances of soft ethyl, subtle minerality, gentle hints of softwood, and a delicate interplay of caramel and butterscotch, accompanied by faint ethereal notes and a restrained presence of alcohol. Upon the palate, a symphony of flavors harmonizes gracefully. The taste journey features notes of oak, wine-esque caramel, a subtle whiskey undertone, rich cacao, barrel spice, honey, and a gentle caress of light pepper that lingers on the tongue but disappears without ready notice. A delightful interplay of sweet nuttiness, minute brine, light citrus, a hint of floral essence, and the faint fading embrace of maple contribute to a multifaceted tasting experience. The culmination of this delightful expedition is found in the finish, where light wood and caramel notes persist, accompanied by a gentle fade of minerality. Vanilla and sugar add a sweet complexity, while subtle ethylene/alcohol notes and faint smoke contribute depth. The superb conclusion is marked by a refreshing essence of light minerality.

Ballard Cut barrel Aroma: first flavor that comes through for me is cinnamon, some fruity… dried pineapple. A hint of barrel. A faint scent of whiskey. Dried tobacco. Flavor: tobacco, agave, dried pineapple, lemon zest and orange peel. Finish: short. Nice tingle. Not super complex at the end. This is a nice expression of El Tesoro Reposado. The aromas a little different than their standard repo, but the flavor is similar. A winner, as always, coming from La Alteña.

Aromas of leather, pepper, agave, burnt brown sugar. Some light oak in there too. Flavor is sweet (but not fake or overwhelming) brown sugar, oak, agave and pepper. Sweetness reemerges in the finish but very balanced. Not too woody. Overall a cut above the regular Repo and though a slight difference, a welcome one.

A fresh and spicy aroma, reminiscent of freshly-cut jalapeño peppers, with a rain water like minerality blended with cooked agave, and just a hint of vanilla. Smooth across the palate, with a slight spiciness to it that presents itself stronger on the finish. The finish lingers with a slight sweetness, and a hit of black pepper.

Story: I have been sleeping on reposados, so I’m giving them some more love. I’ve got El Tesoro Total Wine SiB, B065-1277, bottle 140/240, aged 9 months, 40.2% abv Aroma: Sweet and grassy agave, hint of honey. Extremely “clean”, I get almost nothing but agave and honey. The faintest ethanol, Palate: The agave is front and center, and it’s just so clean and bright. Very crisp and clean, i almost imagine that this would be the liquid equivalent of taking a bite out of an agave, that’s what I “feel” when tasting it. Getting some Barrel spice on the back end, and that honey note keeps popping up for me. Surprisingly little heat, even for the mild 40.2%. Verdict: Buy it (if you can find it still). Amazing stuff. I’ve had ET Repo and this is a different animal. It’s so crisp, clean, and bright. If you asked me what agave tastes like, I’d point to this bottle. It’s mellowed by the barrel aging but still retains all of the excellent characteristics of the underlying tequila. It’s too bad I can’t try this years iteration of the other barrels, but I’ll definitely grab some if I find them around.

This review is for the Festival Foods bottling of this tequila. Aromas of smoke, pine, and herbs clear the way for light agave after opening up a bit. The flavor is medium bodied and somewhat oily with a fiery cinnamon spice note. This is followed by leather, oak, and baking spice. The agave is ever so light here. The finish is medium in length and possesses more agave than the initial taste lets on. I like this, but the fruitier character of the standard Reposado is a little more appealing to me.

as with all Carlos Carmarena expressions, agave is still at the front of this reposado. nose has agave, citrus, some oak. flavor brings out the citrus (grapefruit). finish holds on to citrus, with some oak and whiskey at the very end. $20 more than the regular reposado, but worth a try

Binny’s 2019 releases B096-L264 and B080-L264: Vegetal and lime. It’s nice, but nothing particularly special. I liked B080 (#2) better, but I’d rate them an average of 77. DFW Tequila Club / Loyalty Liquors 2021 release B074-L277: this one is my favorite ET single barrel so far. The nose is ok but the taste is delicious. I’ll rate this one an 87.

This single barrel is aged 10 months in ex-bourbon barrels. It is very typical of El Tesoro, meaning its crisp and herby with citrus and peppery notes. The aroma is of agave and the high mineral content in La Alteña’s spring water. The palate is by no means dominated by wood/oak, in fact it is very agave forward with a nice, viscous mouth feel. Very well-rounded tequila by Carlos.

I have tasted 5 of these single barrels including all 3 from KL Wines which are now OOS. Carlos and his daughter categorized around 40 barrels into 3 groups and KL picked a barrel from each category. Barrel 110 is soft with citrus and pepper, barrel 117 was more herbal while the last, barrel 158 had more minerals and a big agave punch to it. The differences are very much in evidence when tasted side x side x side. Other than the 3 KL barrels the rest were sent to various retailers around the country. The remaing barrels were blended together and bottled as the regular reposado and designated lot 001 with the new retail package.

Ex bourbon cask: B140-1336 Bottle 42/240 Nose is full of agave followed by some barrel influence of oak and vanilla, pepper, and slight citrus. On the palate and as it opened up I got sweet agave, slight licorice, pepper, barrel notes of one Carmel. Has a nice punch to it. I don’t get a silky/viscous mouthful with this one; it’s clean. Short finish, and without that silky feel it makes for a dull ending in my opinion. It was an okay supper, enjoyable, but keep a backup for my personal shelf.

Can’t get a good nose in the wide tumbler (out with friends). Straw color in the glass. Thin but silky mouthfeel. Mildly sweet agave, cinnamon, barrel spices. Very smooth with a warmth that builds nicely in the back of the throat. Finish is short and dry.

Bought this one based on other tequila drinkers ratings. Was not overly thrilled with it; went down OK but didn’t have a great finish. Was not what I would call a great sippingtequila. Probably does better in margaritas.

For my 1,200th rating I had to open and try something really special! This bottle has rounder shoulder than the bottle shown on TMM and has a wooden stopper instead of the tahona design. Aged in ex-bourbon cask (LOT) B003-1290 for 9 months, bottled on 09/12/2022 for Lock & Key at 40.4% abv., and….. this is bottle No. 1 !!! Belonging to Ing. Carlos Camaren’s collection, gracias Ing.! Tasted on 9-10-24. Color: very light yellow. Aroma: light sweet cooked agave, light acidity, citrus, lemon, lime, light soapy sensation that are floral aromas, hint of mint freshness that helps keep this tequila fresh & crisp, after 20 minutes in the glass light wood note emerges together with sweeter cooked agave note. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, good sweet sour and citrus balance, medium bodied with thick mouthfeel, light aromatic green vegetal notes with floral aromas through my retronasal. Finish is medium to medium long, light sweet cooked agave, light aromatic green vegetal notes, citrus, lemon, floral aromas with a hint of wood note that doesn’t bother persists.
