Nose: Cooked agave leads the way, backed by a hit of olive brine and a sharp, unmistakable blue cheese funk. There’s a fresh herbal quality underneath it all, with a squeeze of lemon that cuts through the richness and keeps it lively. Palate & Mouthfeel: Thin and a little slick, but the flavor comes through clean. Sweet agave up front, followed by black pepper and that same savory funk - blue cheese again, but more integrated here. There’s a briny salinity running through it that ties everything together without overwhelming the balance. Finish: Lingering spicy black pepper with a clean, crisp exit. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, but it leaves a strong impression. Final Thoughts: The funk on this one may not be for everyone, but it’s absolutely for me. It’s bold, different, and unique in a way that earns its permanent spot on my shelf.

Nose: lactic funk / agave / earth / mineral / light fruit / lime / lemongrass / orange blossom/ Taste: sweet cooked agave / vanilla/ cinnamon/ lactic funk / banana/ apple / melon/ lime/ anise / lemongrass / tea / orange blossom/ hint of baking spices / cream soda Finish: very nice watery wet mouthfeel that becomes very lightly viscous at the back of the palate / lingering sweetness prevails over all other flavor notes….even the lactic. Clean minty taste at the very end. This 55% abv blanco is quite delicious EXCEPT for the lactic scent and taste. As this lactic quality is a desirable effect in lovers of Chamucos, I’ve done my best to disregard that as an ‘error’ and count it as a targeted attribute. The lactic on the nose is strong; its there on the taste, but the rest of the sweetness from agave, the fruits, and the anise outshine the funk to the point where it’s not specifically noticeable. This is a good high proof that may not be enjoyable because of the funk, but if you get through it, this is good juice.

Tasted this blind for a Fuerte Friday. Even blind, I knew right away this was Diablo. This is a love or dislike type of tequila due to the malolactic funk. I am a lover of this profile so keep that in mind. The nose for me is like dinner in a glencarin. I get blue cheese and mushrooms and earthiness. With all that I still get a nice nose if cooked agave. The taste is more agave forward than the nose but I still get that malolactic goodness I like so much. I get olive and mineral and pepper. The finish is excellent and the 55 ABV works only to enhance this experience. If you like Funky Town as much as I do, run, don’t walk, to get your hands on this bargain. I do not apply for my high rating. If this is in your wheelhouse, you will know what I mean. I do not apologize for rating this higher than most. It is in my wheelhouse and I find it damn good.

2nd Night: The aroma evokes a distinctive funk reminiscent of animal stalls, particularly resembling the essence of a hog's pen, intertwined with notes of tobacco leaf. Upon tasting, an initial surge of ethyl heat is felt, gradually intensifying before mingling with inhaled air to reveal a fiery combination of anise and honey that stings the throat. Additional layers of flavor unfold, including hints of peppermint, Red Hots cinnamon candy, caramelized white sugar, lemon citrus, cherry, and a vegetal pepperiness reminiscent of a habanero pepper. The tasting conclusion is notable with evaporating heat, accompanied by a faint sweetness of honey and lingering pepperiness. The sensation of minerality and tingling ethyl is noted, while the initial presence of anise fades into the background.

One of my go to high proofs. Creamy & oily mouthfeel with heavy heat that finishes with a mint & anise.

Strong lactic and plastic nose, not a fan. Flavor is better with some earth, agave, and brine. Tasted and rated this blind.

On the nose, lactic Funk. Immediate grassy, almost cheesy funk. Very reminiscent of those malolactic notes from the Cazcanes joven. Sweet cooked agave, minerals, some baking spice like clove. A touch of vanilla, and some salinity. On the palate, just wow. That’s an immediate kick to the face. This definitely lets you know you’re drinking high proof. Tons of flavor, overwhelming at first. Then the notes start coming through, cooked agave, some green olive. A little bit wet earth, some spiciness and a light hint of that lactic note from the nose but nowhere near as prominent. Very full bodied, oily, and a little overwhelming on the flavor profile. Solid. That heat just comes with the very intense flavor profile I suppose, definitely lives up to the brand name! I would recommend this to somebody who likes high proofs. If you can find it in that $55 range or even cheaper, you’d be golden. I’d probably add another point to value for every $3-4 knocked off the price.

Not overly complex but big flavors on this high proof. Very earthy and vegetal but still pleasantly sweet.

Wow! Agave monster. This packs a punch. So much agave on the nose. This is delicious stuff and not for the faint of heart but if you love pure agave and high proofs, this is definitely one to try. Wow tongue numbing

Nose: A big wallop of sweet ripe agave, reminiscent of being at a distillery during the last part of the cooking process. It is an aroma that stays with you. There is a bold barnyard, lactic undercurrent laced with minerality and earth. Some briney olive notes and a touch of smoke. This has a very dynamic nose. Flavor: An eye watering assault of finely ground fresh pepper, cinnamon, and cloves. Full on agave goodness with a nice viscosity. The barnyard and earthy minerals carry into the palate. This explosive tequila is not for the faint of heart. Finish: This Diablo struts its stuff, finishing with pepper heat, honey like agave mouth feel, some final anise - and a reminder that it is 55% ABV!

Wow!! Quite oily in the mouth with little to no filtering as is apparent in the texture and chewiness of this high proof blanco. Interesting profile with some sweet initially and some slight vegetal bitter/sourness in the finish. It works. Did I mention 55% ABV?

Love the blue cheese funk. It’s definitely real. You can smell the pungent notes from the other side of the table. High ABV is nicely balanced, more inviting than other high proofs. Creamy with a viscous mouthful. At $55 this is fantastic, but you have to be into it. I couldn’t drink it all the time.

A stinky boi. This has strong notes of lactic funk and Parmesan cheese, which comes through in the body. It’s a totally different experience and I’m a fan.

My first impression was what the funk hit me squarely in the face. However I quickly warmed up to it but not as much for a straight sipper. RANCH WATER! Adding in Topo Chico and half fresh lime cuts the high proof but you still know you’ve got something special going on.

Lots of cheese funk, cooked agave, citrus, lime, brine, mineral and light earthy. I normally prefer high proofs/still strength blancos, but I prefer the regular blanco in comparison to this one.

I think this tequila is so unique, some might be turned off by it. I applaud them on how different it is. So cheesy and funky. Unlike any other tequila I’ve had. It’s definitely not for everyone, but for people who enjoy different types of tequila, it’s worth going out of your way to try. I’ve never had one like it. I’ll keep it in my collection.

Funk on the nose but sweet on the taste. This is an excellent high proof blanco that is also a great value.
