I had this at a tasting event. A good XA with tons of barrel notes. Almost too much coming from the barrel and overpowering the agave. So some may not appreciate this. Still a very enjoyable sipper. Nose: cooked agave, oak, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, cinnamon, barrel spice, and whiskey. Palate: cooked agave, oak, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, butterscotch, clove, and baking spice. Still an enjoyable XA.

ADLS Arette Gran Clase Extra Anejo 46%ABV - 92 Proof This is a single barrel picked by Steven from Austin Dead Liver Society and sold at Tejas Liquor #3 This XA has a very aromatic and fruity nose. The cooked agave is detectable but the stone fruits jump out of the glass. The 92 proof seems to be accentuating these aromas. I also detect some light sage, orange rind and faint chocolate. There’s a light floral note that dances with the heavier fruity notes. It’s a fun nose. On the palate I get the cooked agave and then some orange bitters and barrels spices kick in. There’s a very pleasant sweetness coming from the cooked agave and some nice cinnamon and clove notes coming from the barrels. It’s slightly dry on the palate but full of flavor. The higher proof keeps the flavors intense without it being overbearing. There’s a subtle spiciness on the finish that helps the flavors lingers. The spiciness is akin to a roasted jalapeno/ chipotle pepper. There’s an earthiness to the spiciness. Overall this is a fun and tasty XA. I’m not aware of how long it was aged but it’s going for approximately 190 dollars.

Bourbon barrel influence over powers the agave on this EA, slight cooked agave, with mild pepper finish.

I rated an older bottle from 2015-ish. not sure how this compares to newer bottles

Aroma very faint, light oak, agave, figs, tobacco. Flavor of agave and oak really nicely balanced. The wood really is more of an accent than overpowering. For an XA it's not too heavy but imparts just enough character.

I added this 37 month Extra Anejo, single barrel for Hi Time Wines. 50% ABV, aged in used American Oak Bourbon barrel with a medium toast. Natural sweet caramel and vanilla on the nose. Updated after additional tasting - less satisfied as the oak is a bit overwhelming for my preference. Those who enjoy heavy barrel influence will enjoy this tequila.

A very spiced up XA, not of my liking at this moment I believe the barrel overcomes

Cedar, bourbon, caramel, clove, pepper — a whiskey lover’s tequila. Nice legs.

I thought I was buying a tequila, but it is dominated by the bourbon barrel aging. I see the quality is there, but the bourbon overruns.

It’s so unique to find an agave forward XA, look no further if that’s your thing. Loads of agave on the nose with the smell of grilling pancakes in the background, this is as appealing as I’ve ever experienced. Birthday cake and agave coats your mouth, this has a perfect a perfect finish in intensity and duration. This stuff is incredible!!

This is the Mexican 38% version... This was one of the first memorable tequilas that I tried back in 2008, shortly after I moved to Mexico. As I remember it, the bottle was before there was the designated class “Extra Añejo”. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. It will remain the runaway best of the ones that I had tasted in my early years I’m on my third bottle now - each one a bit different in the profile emphasis. Still a high quality tequila and recommended, but my personal preferences have moved along...

Bottle No. 91 of 120. Heavy aroma of oak/wood. Slight sweetness in flavor but dominated by wood and tannin. Lasting, warm peppery finish.

Aroma has notes of vanilla and a slight smokiness from aging. The flavor is nothing like what I expected. I thought I would get a sweet smooth flavor but instead I get a harsh oak taste. Maybe something more for a person who enjoys whiskey. But as someone who is a much bigger fan of less aged tequila (blancos & repos) this isn't my cup of tea.

It's a good sipper, but it is overpriced in the US. Price forces me to not recommend it.

Wood and barrel-spice one the nose. Some alcohol, some agave but light. Pale straw in the glass. Thin mouthfeel. Taste-profile is like a fine, smooth whisky. Not very complex, not getting unique notes. Finish is medium-long, a bit oily, a bit astringent.

GOAT Not much more that needs to be said, anyone else who feels the need to write about Woody scents and smells on the nose is full of absolute bullshit. Completely unnecessary to get to the point. #GOAT

The nose is reminiscent of bourbon and apples with spice, oak, and vanilla. Probably the most whiskey-like tequila I’ve had. The flavor starts off with barrel oakiness and spice, then I get a little agave, with a sweet vanilla finish. Very smooth, but agave is not the star of the show. Very tasty and drinkable.
