On the nose it presents an intriguing blend of earthy, damp clay funk, can’t quite fully describe it. Some light vanilla and oak sweetness also comes through on the aroma, overall a bit different but quite interesting. On the palate it takes on quite a different flavor, has a certain lactic funk to it. Earthy, herbal, and spiced, and also very similar to the ArteNOM 1414. The finish leaves a lingering sweet earthiness with that same funk and some vanilla.

This Gran Dovejo Repo has a signature 1414 nose like many of its cousins. Nice sweet agave. Apple is prevalent and also barrel notes such as vanilla and cinnamon. I also get almond and caramel. This is a good nose but it is light compared to other 1414s. Cooked agave is very forward on the palate. I get oak, cinnamon and bit of black pepper. Vanilla and caramel and a bit of banana. The mouthfeel was a little thin. A bit of alcohol on the finish. I would definitely recommend this one and it is a reasonably priced repo.

Nose: agave sweet / vanilla/ pepper / earth /apple / grapefruit/ butterscotch/ alcohol Taste: agave sweetness/ pepper/ vanilla/ caramel/ banana/ apple / citrus / peppermint/ orange peel / allspice/ chocolate/ molasses/ cream soda Finish: very low viscous texture / agave sweet through to the end/pepper lingering taste NOM 1414 delivers on this Reposado. A great soldier in the front line of Gran Dovejo. Very nice!!

Aromas of straw, cooked agave, vanilla and cedar. Flavor of sweetness up front that segues into cooked brown sugar, light oak, and cooked agave. A pretty good expression of a reposado balancing the wood just right.

Love the thick oily mouth feel lots of cinnamon and butterscotch. The aroma is amazing... a little light on the agave taste but otherwise this really enjoyable.

Ethanol on the nose right away with cooked agave coming in with oak at the end. Beautiful tears and viscosity line on the glass. This bottle has been open a month or so at this time and it has really benefited it....nice agave with ethanol burn, hint of baking spices, with a pleasant burn on a medium finish.

Agave, caramel and baking spices on the nose, very enjoyable. Light to medium body, I get subtle agave notes, light oak, vanilla, cinnamon and pepper on the end. It’s a little thin, finish is brief leaving a nice heat on the back of the throat. Nice repo, ultimately falls a little short of the standout nose.

This a very complex tequila that drinks more like an añejo. Cooked agave still dominates the nose and palate, giving way to cinnamon, pepper, vanilla, caramel in the middle and butterscotch and oak to end it. The finish is long and pleasant.

Lote 2, bottle #321 Huge nose. Ripe plums, agave, baking spices, and warm applesauce. Thick and oily. There’s a lot of action here. Spices of cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg, plus citrus and undulating floral notes. Significant pepper, with some bitterness. The agave is still front and center, with some warm caramel and nuttiness. Satisfying and well balanced finish. Just the right amount of heat to offset the sweet and floral.

Strong oak in the aroma - butterscotch and almond predominate. There is also something almost like burnt wood...smoky. Just like the blanco, this is Incredibly smooth. Quite a bit of sweetness initially (vanilla, butterscotch) with a great baking spice flavor following (cinnamon, nutmeg). The finish is long and pleasant. This is a great sipper. 8/1/2015

Aroma: Strong notes of almond and vanilla. Flavor: The flavor is very oaky. It almost reminds me more of an Anejo than a Reposado. Definitely harsher and not as sweet as the aroma. Finish: Very strong. It hangs around for a while and is very nice.

Heavy alcohol to start with the nose, opened up nicely over time with sweet cooked agave, oak and some fruit. Palate is similar with mellow cooked agave and oak with a bit of dry fruit leather and some pepper. The finish on this was very short however. Would drink again!

Aroma- Very light, hints of caramel apple, earthy Flavor- At first it’s like a caramel apple with bits of dirt on it, but then it transitions to a light sweet caramel apple with all spice and cinnamon Finish- Quite spicy, all spice and cinnamon, hi y of sweet, a bit of burn Overall a funky, unique, and quite good repo.

Aroma: Agave is at the forefront. There's a soft balance of Oak, Caramel, Cinnamon, and Vanilla. A very bright Citrus note can be taken in. There is also creamy whipped butter in the nosing. Finally, there is Almond/Marzipan coming through. The water brings in a nice minerality to round this out. Taste: Immediately, the Sweet Cooked Agave still shines! The barrel influence allows the Oak, Caramel, Cinnamon, and Vanilla coat the palate extremely well. The bright Citrus does transfer and gives the tasting a nice spike! These strong flavors also have a nice butter creaminess. As this sits, and I take a second sip, the buttery flavor mixes with this very nice Almond/Marzipan and Banana complexity. As this enters the finish a Minty taste is also present in the profile. Finish: The Agave is mixing with a light Pepper/Cinnamon and has a nice long finish. But very soft! Another fine example of the work that Sergio Cruz and his distillery produces! If you see this brand on the shelf, I'd highly recommend this brand to add to your shelves if you see it on the shelf! Finding Some Comforting Clues in Gran Dovejo Tequila

Gran Dovejo is made in the highlands of Jalisco using many of our favorite techniques: the use of very ripe single-estate agave, cooked in clay ovens, distilled in copper pots, and created in small batches. (In other words even more “clues.”)
