Nose: Round, mellow oak. Fruit, baking spices, faint toffee, and wet rocks. Flavor: Caramel, vanilla, semi oily with a pepper kick. Agave presence is holding its own. The añejo is a definite step up from the blanco and repo. Finish: A little more oak sneaks in, with barrel spice, pepper and vanilla rounding out the finish.

Surprisingly for me I like this much better than the servicable but pedestrian blanco from which it comes. Nice nose of oak and barrel spice that is carried through in the first and subsequent sips. A hint of vanilla along with allspice and caramel round out a nice sipping experience.

I find this has way more agave than the Blanco?!? Pleasant enough on the nose, doesn’t make you wanna jump in but makes me curious. I’d love to know the age difference between this and the repo, it seems as though the oak isn’t as present here?

Very light in color for an Añejo. (That's not a bad thing.) It smells and tastes of light cinnamon, but the body is a bit thin.

Sweet aroma with just a hint of agave. Barrel is not overdone...coffee and caramel. very nice. Aromas carry over directly to flavor - coffee and caramel.

Has nice aroma and notes of vanilla or butterscotch. Strong back-end heat is unexpected. Overall matches price point. Comes in an elegant bottle in various sizes.

Smell is decent but something artifical. Taste is not horrible but more alcohol forward followed by some vanilla, caramel, oak and faint agave and something astringent. Not terrible but not good.

Not the nicest nose. Lovely sweet, yet pepper filled on the tongue. Smooth finish.

This was enjoyable…oaky- alcohol- pepper- anise- a little heat but just an average tequila overall. Second glass was a lot better- agave wetness with pepper and anise that lingers in the finish. Wish the finish lasted longer.

MA38, LIZ 0508. Marbete from 2012. 35% abv. Color: yellow. Aroma: light sweet cooked agave, aromatic herbs, light white jasmine floral note, slightly minty, 20 minutes in the glass a light black tea aroma emerges. Palate: sweet cooked agave, slightly astringent, I smell floral note through retronasal. Finish is medium, light sweet cooked agave notes persists but not for long.

Milagro core blanco and repo are good value and lean sweet. The añejo was a disappointment. It was heavy on alcohol and did not feel aged and smooth like one would expect from an añejo. This is also where I do not like the colored bottles because you can’t see the color amber. The heavy alcohol feel may be from cutting corners in blending barrels. I’ll try it again at another time, but unfortunately it left a bad impression and taste.

Review #116 - Milagro Tequila Anejo

A really nice value anejo. Nothing especially notable, but all of the flavors that you'd expect from something well aged.
