Original rated 4 years ago. Light amber in the glass. Aroma of agave, black pepper with a hint of vanilla and solvent. Flavor is astringent and that hint of solvent again, along with agave, vanilla and some black pepper. The finish doesn't last too long.

TMM says that JC Tradicional is diffuser and column still. The bottle claims clay ovens and 2x distilled in copper stills. It tastes diffuser because there are notes that I don’t usually find in other tequilas and I drink a lot of blancos, the purest form of tequila. Try it before you buy it. There are excellent tequilas in this price range.

This is a lot better than I remember or probably give it credit for, it’s got agave notes in all the right places. The column still is likely the culprit for stripping away all the personality but it makes a decent margarita.

Rated blind. When I learned what it was I was surprised. There’s a cocoa powder aroma and flavor to it that I responded favorably to.

Edited March 9, 2019, prompted by an earlier discussion with John Welch, and based on the results of Grover’s rating today.... Interestingly, John’s bottle states “ESTATE GROWN BLUE AGAVE ARE SLOW COOKED IN CLAY OVENS AND THEN DOUBLE-DISTILLED IN COPPER STILLS.” My bottle makes no such claims. Instead mine says, ”Como parte de la tradición, se recomiendo congelado.” (“As part of the tradition, frozen is recommended.”). ??? Nose: My first whiff brought on the Cuervo Gold gag response, remembered vividly from college days. I gave the tequila and myself a chance to breathe. My second dive in brought a wave of new oak shavings, cinnamon, coarse ground black pepper, and a tinny canned fruit aroma. Upon re tasting, I detected some minerals and ripe fruit. Flavor: Hot and sweet, but not in an appealing sense. Rough with bitter wood notes on the sides and back of my tongue. Picked up some vanilla and white chocolate notes second time around...And, oddly, at only 38% ABV it is burning and numbing my upper palate and tongue. Finish: An acrid aftertaste that is off putting to me.

NOM 1104 Imported by Heublein. Bottle is labeled 199 meaning 1 year before Cuervo's 200th Anniversary in 1995. Some loss of alcohol has resulted in a loss of vibrancy but this still has solid flavor of agave and barrel spice along with a lack of the whole fake cinnamon I get from current Tradicional. Glad to have tasted this as this was an early favorite for me in my tequila journey. I was drinking this over 20 years ago. 05232018

not a terrible reposado. i have it at home and get it when i am out and cant find a better option. it is usually solid. i am glad cuervo make this so i dont have to hate them for that mixto garbage lol. i recommend this for a price saver. less than espolon, and perhaps better profile.

My only interest is for margaritas. This was my Go2 tequila for margs for the past 10 years. A great value around Minnesota. Then I heard about the new mass production methods, diffuser juice, additives, etc. I know what the bottle says, but I also worked in the "hope in a bottle" industry, so I'm aware how the truth can sometimes be stretched. I reached out to the manufacturer asking them about it and received no response. In my world and court, failure to appear means You Lose, and I move on to something else. TequilaMatchmaker has been invaluable to me finding the right something else. Jose Cuervo Traditional Reposado did a nice job for me for over a decade, so I can't complain much, but I want nothing to do with the new garbage being churned out. I thought dodging Mixto was bad enough... I read a recent article about plummeting prices on agave due to massive acreage dedication. You combine that with the diffuser/additive mess, and that my friends is a recipe for disaster. They better buckle up. Take a little extra time looking for quality vs quantity.!

Not bad for a diffuser. For the price to quality comparison, it’s good for a weekday mixer.

Se tuvo que crear el tomarlo congelado para mejorar su sabor al paladar. Me parece de lo peorcito de Cuervo.

Definitely wouldn't recommend as a sipper. Might be a cheap mixer, but there's better choices out there.

Nose is a bit astringent. Pale, straw color. Thin mouthfeel. Can’t get much in terms of flavor - no complexity. Finish is warm and long with a mild bite. Overall, not a fan at all.

5 Essential Tequilas for a Well-Stocked Bar

Some people, when talking about essential bottles for a well-stocked bar, leave out tequila (unlike, say, bourbon or scotch). Some people think that the only thing tequila is good for is making margaritas. Some people are wrong.

Review #245 - Jose Cuervo Tradicional Tequila Reposado

Mexicans aren't subjected to the mixto garbage that we have to have cluttering the shelves, so Cuervo Tradicional is a staple down there.
