2021 La Mula | Nose: This has a softer, rounder, and more delicate nose than I’ve noticed in other Ocho Plata releases. Cooked agave is clear and present, joined by a buttery note that gives it some richness. There’s also peppermint, cinnamon, and a layer of citrus that keeps it lifted. It’s aromatic without being loud. Palate & Mouthfeel: The texture is slick and oily, which works well with the flavors. Sweet agave stars, backed by tropical fruit, cinnamon, and a noticeable herbal and floral character. Spice builds slowly - it’s there, but more of a gentle heat like clove or cinnamon, rather than sharp black pepper, though some of that is present too. Finish: The finish hangs on a bit longer than I remember from other Ocho Platas. The spice that was building on the palate sticks around, and again, it leans toward baking spice heat more than pepper. It lingers in a way that adds to the overall complexity without feeling heavy. Final Thoughts: This is easily my favorite Ocho Plata so far. It still has the core character you’d expect, but the added softness, the layered spice, and the richer texture make it stand out.

2023 Potrero Grande | Nose: Crisp and clean right from the start. Cooked agave backed by fresh cut grass and a soft earthiness, like the smell of fresh rain on dry ground. A bright hint of citrus lifts everything up, keeping the nose lively and inviting. Palate and Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel is slick but still light, making it really easy to sip. Sweet cooked agave hits immediately, followed by smooth notes of vanilla and a whisper of anise. It’s bright, earthy, and incredibly well balanced, with a smoothness that makes it effortless to drink. Finish: The finish stays true to the experience, it’s sweet and clean with a gentle peppery kick that lingers just enough without overpowering the other flavors. Overall: This is an easygoing, super approachable tequila that punches well above its price point. Bright and fresh - an absolute standout for the value.

2024 Tierras Negras | This is for the 2024 Tierra Negras. Aroma of cooked agave, citrus, minerals, herbal and a hint of mint. Flavor of cooked agave, black pepper, citrus, minerals, mint and a bit of wood, I assume from the fermentation barrels. The finish was long with the lingering black pepper spiciness.

2024 Tierras Negras | Nose - cooked agave, black pepper & olive brine. on palate decent mouthfeel, coats nicely get hit with sweet cooked agave first and then citrus, anise and a very short wave of black pepper spice. Sweet finish medium-short. Such a solid readily available and affordable sipper. Amazing value here.

2024 Tierras Negras | This is such a good bang for your buck brand. You can’t go wrong with Ocho. This blanco has such bright aromas and flavors from the terroir. Nose: sweet cooked agave, citrus, black pepper, minerals, brine, and very floral. Palate: sweet cooked agave, citrus, black pepper, minerals, brine, and earth. Great mouth feel with a medium finish. Such a great sipper.

2024 Mirandillas | When it comes to bang for your buck, tequila Ocho is a leader of the pack. This year’s blanco showcases the strengths of this generational powerhouse. On the nose I get a butter crème, sweet potato, orange peel, lime wedge, tangerine, mint, cardamom, and anise. On the palate, the citrus hinted at on the nose encompasses the palate. Subtle earthiness, mineral, and pepper notes come through after peeling back the layers of citrus marmalade. The finish is good, but nothing to write home about in terms of length & no additional notes are detected on the finish. Delicious, refreshing, accessible.

2024 Mirandillas | The aroma and finish are both really good but what stands out is the taste. It’s full of earthy sweetness and roasted agave! This is a stand out for Ocho for me.

2024 Mirandillas | Nose: Agave bomb, I keep getting hints of something else but it’s quickly overwhelmed by agave. This is, at least on the nose, my favorite expression of Ocho so far. Some light floral notes, but agave is INTENSE. Palate: Agave, ever so slightly floral. Much rounder than previous expressions of Ocho in my experience. Very oily. Maybe a little citrus. Overall, quite good. Not my favorite Ocho so far, but very good. New bottle, it may open up and grow on me some more.

2022 La Cañada | Nose: Nearly overwhelming agave. Sweet, citrusy, a touch of petrichor. Agave is the star of the show. Palate: Agave bomb. There’s something there that just lets you know you’re drinking a Carlos Camarena distillate. Cinnamon, and behind the agave, a fruity note wants to come out. A little bit of orange peel. Well bodied, oily, medium long finish. This is top quality. Here in California, Ocho can regularly found for $34.99 and I’d say that you’d be hard pressed to find a better sipper at that price.

2024 Mirandillas | Nose: Beautiful natural light sweetness. Crisp, white pepper, fresh, cooked agave. Herbal backend of mint, bell pepper, and maybe a hint of olive and lavender. Palate: Medium pleasant body. Thick viscosity. Very clean, crisp and airy. Ochos aeration process is really on point. Palate evolutes into a rich cooked agave with white fruit elements. It’s no secret that Ocho Plata is my favorite high quality and high value blanco around. This is not my favorite batch but still great.

2023 Corralillos | Aroma: A significant amount of lime citrus up front, combined with sweet agave, a vibrant minerality, some herbal notes and some hints of salty cucumber. Flavor: Hits with a real punch of sweet and salty agave, with lots of citrus as well. The mouthfeel is slightly thin, not overly complex but definitely a solid blanco. Finish: A dry finish, leaves behind a fair bit of citrus that fades into lightly bitter yet tasty notes of black pepper.
