This tasting had the advantage of following two really bad tequilas - Mi Familia Cristallino and Addictivo Anejo. This actually taste something like a tequila after those two I will say that before my conversion to AF, this was a go to of mine. I get agave on the nose along with barrel spices. Nose is decent The taste has a bit of that artificial sweetness but nowhere near what those others are putting out. Nothing special about this offering but I can drink it. I’d take Patron Repo over this in a place that doesn’t offer really good tequila but I would not turn this down if offered to me.

2005 bottle. Phenomenal. I wouldn't touch the new crap.

Nose: Sweet oak vanilla with mild agave and red fruit. Flavor: Sweet vanilla oak with good mouth feel and an easy finish. Sweet simple repo. Overall, I enjoyed it as a casual sipper. Not sure I will seek this pour out again but would not complain if someone handed me a glass.

At the bar: The aromas was sweet with the oak, agave, lemon, ethyl, butterscotch, saline, and vanilla extract being rather pleasant to inhale. The taste was pleasing and easy to drink with oak, vanilla, pineapple, citrus, pepper, salinity, and cherry/plum tanginess. The finish crept away with trails of agave, dried acidic fruit and water. Pleasantly surprised.

Pepper, agave, cinnamon, vanilla, caramel. Solid repo overall. Gets a knock on the price but enjoyable.

viscosity was a little thick and oily for a Reposado. Good aromas, not over powering. Slight heat on the finish

Light Amber color in the glass. Aroma of agave and caramel. Flavor of black pepper with medium-long finish.

Hints of vanilla and Carmel, more of an alcohol taste than I would have expected and not in a good way.

Aroma : Vanilla and butterscotch. Small amount of oak. Taste : Agave, caramel, vanilla and butterscotch. There is some oak here as well. Light black pepper. This is a sweet Reposado profile, but it seems a little thin bodied. Finish : Medium length with more emphasis on oak and black pepper.

Tasted blind. This is a solid reposado. It’s almost too refined for me. Super easy sipper with no roughness around the edges. Notes of vanilla, oak and caramel come through. Well balanced, but a tad shallow. It’s an easy drinker and i can see why it appeals to the masses.

Very nice agave aroma with some spice. The taste is really nice with lots going on. The finish is a bit harsh with little flavor. Tasted again 8/21. Score lowered a few. The taste does not have “a lot going on” like I thought before.

Caramel and nuts (maybe almonds), vanilla and agave with hints of wood on the nose. Oak, cinnamon, agave, spices, vanilla and caramel and more nuts on the flavor and finish. A good sipper alternative on a warm afternoon with a sweet and light pepper finish

Great use of oak, I can still taste the same agave profile of the Blanco. Thin and gentle, I can see why this wins people over.

Comforting nose of butterscotch and almond. Then comes cinnamon, spices and vanilla. Agave still peaks through over light oak. Flavors more subdued than the nose, with some pepper and bitters.

From a blind test. Some yeast element like un or under cooked bread. Doesn't taste that way but dominates the aroma. Not as evident in a 2nd blind tasting I gave this the 3rd highest score of 6 reposado tequilas.

A lot of oak on the nose, despite the pale color. Agave still present, but dominated by oak. Decent entry, but finish is slightly bitter.

Beautiful gold presentation, robust oak agave aroma - strong but not over powering or heavy on burn. honey, smokey, black pepper sweet. nice buttery finish, melts smoothly away.

Subdued aroma with a nice combination of agave and fruity sweetness (apple, pear and pineapple with maybe a hint of coconut??). Nice flavor starting soft and sweet then following with minerality and spice. Medium finish that lingers nicely. A great improvement over the blanco (which is always interesting...). 8/23/2015

Aroma: agave & fruit notes. Hints of agave Taste: tasted like a rosa reposado with fruit notes hints of caramel & vanilla. Finish: quick left dried fruit on the palate. Overall: I preferred Don Julio repo over the Don Julio blanco. (I’m a blanco over other expressions guy). For $70 lots of better options.

11 Things We Think We Know About Reposados

Until recently, we hadn’t cared much for reposado — tequila that has been aged in oak barrels from 2 to 12 months. It seems too middle-of-the-road: like blanco (no barrel aging) without the bite, añejo (aged for longer than a year) without the flavor. But

Review #135 - Don Julio Tequila Reposado

I can't believe that it's taken me this long to try this tequila. I like the blanco...and the anejo and 1942 are two of my favorites. It was worth the wait.
