Drank this several times while on a cruise. This is a decent Añejo that is additive free and the next cruise I am on I will be drinking it again.

Ehh…sweet, with oak aging influences. Vanilla, honey, and dried fruits with mild agave presence. Balanced but lacks the punch of more artisanal añejos.

Aroma of cooked agave, oak and barrel spice. Flavor of cooked agave, cinnamon and spiciness. Medium finish. Overpriced at the bar for $25/shot.

Is not bad. It's on the thinner side of viscosity but picks up barrel notes. Not a lot of depth of flavor or agave but it will do.

Below average añejo. Where I bartend at we have a margarita that we use Patron Añejo. It’s actually great as a mixer. Contrary to what we usually do it adds a different element to a margarita.

Nose: Agave, touch of honey. Light vanilla notes. Definitely a hint of banana and butterscotch. Palate: Agave and caramel, right off the bat. Vanilla, and a very strong whiskey note. Bourbon, I think. I get the barrel notes for sure, but not a ton else. Verdict: Try it. It’s a competent añejo. If your choice is this or picking up a 1L of Tapatio for another couple bucks, by all means skip it. But at $45-50/bottle, I see no real flaws here. It’s a competent, albeit simple tequila. It tastes quality, no crappy diffuser notes, additive free, and an all around decent sipper. It’s not top shelf, but honestly, I don’t understand the hate it gets. I really think it’s just cool to hate on Patron, And that’s why everybody does. The blanco is a little pricy for what it is, but at least here in California, the añejo is reasonably priced. I assume the blanco and repo are priced up to account for that, but I’m not sure.

Nose is Baking spices, Werther’s original candy, cooked agave. More caramel on the palate, it’s sweet which turns to some burn and a lingering, albeit simple, finish.

Not a very strong Anejo contender by any means. Fair aroma with not as much wood as would be expected. Good even flavor and definitely not low end tasting. Finish was best part with light, even burn and where most of the flavor expands. Great gateway tequila and respectable enough to serve to guests or bring to a party.

Love the consistency that is achieved at such a high volume of sales, they have made a really great Añejo. Agave still present which isn’t easy after all that oak exposure, warm vanilla and caramel notes make this a go to.

Nose: Has moderate agave, barrel spices, vanilla and a floral note. Ripe fruit aroma. Flavor: Sweet agave and a little pepper kick. Semi oily on the tongue with vanilla/ almond notes. Ripe fruit, perhaps cherries and guava. Finishes with pepper and vanilla. Patron always takes the knocks because of pricing and predisposed assumptions. Yes, there are better. And I think they try to hit a target audience with a product that is middle of the road. But it is a well crafted tequila - just not stellar.

Flavors and aromas are muted. At this price, I expected a more.

Rated blind. Aroma rich with vanilla and cake batter, and not very complicated. Grass, hay, straw also present. Flavor is warm and sweet, with a dry finish. This is not an overly aged tequila, which I appreciate, but it's also very simple.

I don’t know why this gets as much hate as it does. It’s not a particularly complex pour, and it’s got alcohol a lot more present on the nose and the palate than I usually go for, but it really benefits from letting it open up a little. Once it gets a little air, the alcohol dissipates and more of the notes of vanilla, oak, agave, and pepper start coming into play. I don’t get a ton of agave on the nose until it opens up a bit. It’s not going to win any awards for complexity or depth, but it’s not off putting. I can find this for under $45 in southern cal, only a buck or two more than I can pick up Tapatio repo, so for me it actually wins a few points on price. I think it’s pretty popular to hate on Patron, but for me it feels like a decent baseline for what you expect out of an expression.

Aroma: Oak, vanilla, caramel, agave. I didn’t smell alcohol like I did in the blanco or repo. Taste: nice balanced of caramel, vanilla, & oak Finish: quick vanilla & oak

Nice aroma and up front taste is smooth with some honey like sweetness but then the finish kicks in and ruins it. Rough with plenty of burn. Makes a good margarita tho.

This tequila has an an inviting nose, offering subtle sweetness and depth. On the palate, the flavors expand intensely, with rich notes of honey adding a pleasant warmth. However, the finish is quite harsh, with a strong alcoholic edge that leaves a lingering.

Review #95 - Patron Tequila Anejo

While I feel like Patron is given harsh treatment from tequila lovers because of it's influence on people with the marketing, but I also feel like it has its place.
