Aroma was pleaser with nice citrus and minerals. This one has a little heat on it with nice citrus notes. Will spend more time with it and let it open up.
Has a nice punch. 50% ABV isn't my favorite, but this one doesn't feel it, which is good. Really nice cooked agave on the nose. Some interesting minerality on the palate. Sugar cookie-like finish. Would love to try this where the agave are autoclave cooked at low or no added pressure.
Medicinal nose from the high ABV, but this has an easy entry for the 50% ABV. Minerals, earth, agave sweetness and a nice finish make this a pleasure to sip. 22, 27, 21
Mellowed in American Oak - 100 proof There’s a lot of cooked agave aroma with a nice vegetal essence. It’s clean with hints of sage and light honeysuckle. There’s some minerality and alcohol vapors. Overall the nose is mostly cooked agave and herbs. On the palate I’m getting that herbal sage note up front that’s mixed with the cooked agave sweetness and then some vegetal pepper shows up. The alcohol is slightly present along with some minerality. Overall the flavor is a somewhat intense herbal and peppery experience on top of caramelized agave.
El tequileno hp - tried at our tasting sept 21 2024 with john welch and tom hendry agave forward, herbal, some alcohol and pepper with something else I can't define rated 80 pts 10/2024 tasted blind in the TMM high-proof blinds rated 84 pts adusting rating to 82 (avg of the two tastings) TMM SS Blinds tasting Oct 2024 SS01 i let this sit 20 mins to start and over an hr had passed by the time my tasting was done. nose = heat, anise, mint, then bacon/smoke! palate = sweet agave, pepper blue cheese Overall very unique. not my favorite, but, i imagine others may like it because it's so different.
I had the pleasure of enjoying a double while conversing with Master Distiller Tony Salles. The totality reminded me of the Blanco Mixto but supremely amplified. The aroma was distinct and captivating, with delicious cooked agave, potent peppermint, effervescent spearmint, vibrant orange and lime citrus, pronounced minerality/petrichor, candied sweet potato, green grapes, cinnamon, and a spike of alcohol. On the palate, the boldness truly shone through with mint, candied yams, green grapes, amplified spearmint and peppermint, anise, and a tangy sour grass that intertwined beautifully. The finish left a minty freshness, lingering cooked agave, fading citrus, and a palatable heat with a spicy herbal freshness that rounded out the experience.
Heavy vegetal grass on the nose. Heat and some pepper on the finish
Not sure what happened here, maybe being neck pour or just a bad bottle but the whole experience was dominated by alcohol/ethanol and some unpleasant by products/chemical flavors. Nose was bit muted also, minimal agave and pepper notes, just not my cup of tea and i love high proofs.
Lots of caramel on the nose even though not a barrel tequila. This followed through on the taste. Also full of anise. Finish is good. Not my favorite high proof but I’d still recommend it. Need to re-rate. I scored this very poorly in a blind. I also tasted this with Jongmin Kim the other day and did not like it then either. The original 87 rating is going to drop I am sure. Re-rated based on several recent tastings and the TMM blind. This has an okay nose but the palate is overpowered by alcohol. A good mixer but there are way better HP sippers
For the price point, this is one of the best releases from Tony Salles, light pepper, citrus, followed by delicious agave notes
Nose: agave / earth /minerals / cinnamon/ green apple/ melon / lime / spearmint/ Taste: agave sweet /. Cinnamon/ orange peel / citrus / pineapple/ lime/ spearmint/ minerals/ alcohol Finish: smooth and delicate watery mouthfeel/ lingering cinnamon and citrus notes / departs with a clean spearmint taste This still strength blanco has all the bold flavors you’d expect from a high proof and the citrus and cinnamon notes work in harmony to provide a delicious well balanced taste. The alcohol on finish is present but not overwhelming. A great first shot at a high proof expression from El Tequileno!!!
Very vibrant fresh clean minerality, citrus, grassy, vanilla crème. On the mouth it has a Spicey lemon vest, medium finish with low heat . Very easy to sip on
Tried this in a sample cup. Alcohol and agave hits you up front. Agave and mint on the palate. Quite a bit of heat. Not bad but far from my favorite high proof.
Cooked agave and alcohol on the nose. Palette brings the agave, along with green peppers and a sweetness that lingers for a few moments after. Very good, but I prefer the Mijenta Maestra which costs the same price where I’m at.
Smooth, strong hints of agave, little bit of a floral finish.
Lots of spice, spicy smooth finish. Strong flavor and lingers.
A very nice SS/HP and one on the more affordable side.
Nose of strong agave, clay, and lime zest. There's definitely some heat coming off it being a still strength but nothing overpowering. It has a good minerality and mouthfeel. Roasted agave, citrus, minerals, and banana.
Smoothsesstill strength I have tasted and I tasted a few strong but not bitter strong sweet agave taste
Being totally honest, I love all El Tequileño products. After staying at the Casa Salles and taking a distillerie tour this place will always hold great memories for me. I will say that the still strength that we tried during the tour was a tad better and stronger.
I'm not sure what the hell I just drank. Thankfully it was from someone else's bottle and I didn't buy one myself. This was offensive alcohol and acetone. No discernable aroma or taste past that. I would have to say this has to be a bad batch. If not then this is just a horrible product. I got a bad a bottle of ArteNom 1414 recently so it's not out of the realm of possibility. But reading some other reviews it's definitely not just the bottle I got my pour from. This is a huge miss by a usually reliable brand if it's not an off bottle. I see places dropping the price to $49.99 which is unheard of for a HP/SS so stores must know there's a problem.
couldn't taste anything but vomit with this one tonight, love their other tequilas, couldn't find myself to like this one. Will revisit...
Tastes like a higher proof, less sweet version of El Tequileno’s platino blanco. Probably good for cocktails where the tequila needs some help punching through the other ingredients, but I do prefer the blanco for sipping.
Breakfast tequila for me today. This one is a very nice high proof. I will revisit.
High-proof tequilas, once only for hardcore drinkers, are now being released at a steady pace. Why?
