US Release - 80 proof (40% abv) This tequila is about to be available in the United States. This 100% Agave Azul is 40% abv (80 proof) and made at NOM1494. They use close cut pinas that are cooked in stone ovens, macerated in roller mills and distilled twice is stainless steel stills. - The nose is bright and slightly green. The fresh cut agave appears first followed by some slight vegetal notes. There’s a presence of celery, faint honeydew mellon rind and some soft minerality. There’s also some floral notes of fresh roses. I also detect some alcohol vapors. - I taste the bright agave that’s accompanied with some agave sweetness and minerality. There’s a soft pepper that follows while the sweet agave lingers. There’s also a sweetness akin to red fruits but it’s subtle and appears on the finish. The melon also makes a quick appearance. Overall this is an easy sipper that gives you agave and soft sweetness (agave & fruit) with just a tad of pepper and slight alcohol tingle. Unknown price. (8pts)

Mexican 40% abv. versión, lote: RDM-09, bottled on 04-05-2023, tasted on 8-25-24 at La Hamburgueria, Leon, in a small caballito shot glass. Aroma: light cooked agave, hint of raw agave, light acidity, light citrus, hint of lemon, slightly herbaceous, hint of cinnamon note which I rarely smell in a blanco, maybe because I am nosing from a caballito glass? Slightly creamy sensation with a hint of vanilla?! Palate: confirms aromas perceived, light minerality, hint of metallic sensation, good sweet sour and citrus balance. Hint of vanilla on the palate too but doesn’t feel unnatural. After 30 minutes in the glass it seems unnatural. Finish is medium to medium long, hint of cooked agave, light green vegetal notes, light citrus notes persist. However, after 30 minutes, the creamy vanilla intensifies and an unnatural sweetness emerges…

The aroma is much better than the taste. It had an interesting aroma of mint & grass. Now the taste was quite flat and not memorable. It was disappointing because it’s a beautiful bottle!
