This is a tasty inexpensive blanco. I would definitely recommend this as a mixer and it is an okay sipper. Nose is light but has gave, earth and citrus. It is on the vegetal side with minerals. On the tongue I get cooked agave, earth, pepper and vegetal notes just like on the nose. Has a sweet finish with a touch of alcohol. For the price, grab this. If nothing else it make for a very good mixer.
Nose: Grassy agave, and a peculiar aroma that I always find in La Cofradía bottlings, something that makes me think of fruit pits. Palate: Surprisingly mellow for higher proof, initial hot burst of agave and subtle minerality, relatively short finish. I get that grassy fruit pit flavor, very subtle. Mixed up in a margarita and the higher proof absolutely shines. As a sipper, it’s decent, as a mixer, it’s rock solid.
Aroma and palate: cinnamon, agave, spice, mineral, citrus, and herbal. Maybe good for cocktails , but not sipping IMHO.
agave and cinnamon on the nose. agave forward on flavor, with cinnamon, vegetal giving way to pepper on the finish. La Cofradia funk is not as pronounced on this one as it is on others from 1137. It is picked up more at the very end of the finish. 1L bottle for 34.99. Screw cap
This is one of the best values in tequila. cinnamon, cooked agave, a touch of honey sweetness. A little earth but not as grassy as I expected. Minerality is there. Good enough to sip neat but fantastic as a mixer.
Tasty offering but for me it still has the Cofradia funk though it certainly is turned down a few notches. The marketing claim to fame of this product is that all agave used are sourced only from Los Valle. In this day and age of agave used being from all over the denomination and possibly outside or not Blue Weber that is the extra effort needed to be unique. Good agave presence with some initial acidity that turns into roasted sweetness that is natural. The sweetness carries over into the finish and leaves the tongue tingling from the 44% ABV.
$29.99 For 1L of this stuff is now a contender for my best value of 2019. Nose full of agave aromas, on the tongue plenty of Cooked Agave flavor, with hints of pepper and earth. Smooth finish with a nice amount of pepper left on the tongue.
Elvelo packs a lot of flavors and it's bold. I think it's better as a mixer than a sipper, but it can easily be sipped. It's a great value for a 1 liter bottle for about $29.99. Its a typical La Cofradia tequila with aroma and tasting notes like cinnamon, spice, mineral/grass, vegetal, light citrus and a musty nutmeg-like presence. Perfect for high quality drinks.
Well- this is not a sipper. Its aroma is herbal with a green olive peppery banana. The palate is herbs and minerals- light agave pepper with olives and a funk that’s not my favorite for a supper. Finish- olives and peppery earth…more olives- not my favorite.
Nose: Earthy, Vegetal, Mineral, Grassyness Agave, Alcohol. Maybe this one has an overpowering earthiness to it. Mouthfeel: Light, Airy, Thin. Taste/Finish: Agave, chocolate, herbs, black pepper and earthiness
Very earthy. Not mineral. Earth. Maybe a little too much for my palate. The finish is a little “dirty”. No real sweetness. I get agave and earth. That’s it for me. However, unique for the amount of earth in my opinion. The proof for the price is excellent. $40 where I am.
Aromas: Both Cooked and Raw Agave notes can be picked out. There is an Earthiness and Minerality that are often found in many Valley Tequilas. A very nice Lemon Citrus note mixes with a light Vegetal/Grassy one. This has a nice Cinnamon and a Green Banana note to it as well. Along with these notes there's a little Spearmint and Anise that are present. Taste: Earthy Cooked Agave mix with a spicy Cinnamon flavor. This is backed up by the Lemony Citrus and Green Banana flavor. The minerality is very present in this. The more vegetal/herbal tones are very much a part of this with Spearmint, Anise, and a vegetal medley. There is a certain amount of grassy flavor. This has a real Alcohol Punch to this as well. Finish: Earthy Agave drives the flavor with a Lingering Citrus, Vegetal, and Spicy Cinnamon for a long finish! Overall, it's another option as a sipper. But I can really see this shining in a Margarita, Batanga, or even a Paloma!!! Salud!!! TMM 84
I enjoyed this as a sipper. Had musty agave smell. Taste was a descent cinnamon smooth finish.
Cooked agave, earthiness, wet dirt, vegetal, some funk.
This gets points for value and high proof and additive free but but but…what about the important points like taste and finish? I’m going to disagree with other reviews that indicate cooked agave. No….This is raw agave. This also has minerality and an earthy/vegetal taste. There’s some light pepper on the finish and there is no alcohol burn. This is not really complex, which is ok, and I agree that this would be a fine cocktail tequila (once again, not a disparaging comment). It doesn’t measure up to a traditional sipping standard but it does measure up to a quality complimentary product. I really don’t trust this distillery to make a top shelf product (look at all the garbage…Antano is one of the worst ever made and sold by Total Wine but that’s another story) but perhaps we should give them credit for moving towards additive free and maybe this will improve their product line. Wow….What a ramble…Take away the bonus points and you end up with a mediocre tequila. Re-review I came back to this after a few weeks. I have added 2 points in the flavor profile. It exhibits a bit more agave and a touch of approachable sweetness. I have been sipping this for 3 straight days to confirm consistency. I’m glad I gave this another shot. This reconfirms my belief that we need to revisit our experiences and change them if necessary. (Antano is still terrible)
Awesome value for a good additive free Blanco
The house well tequila at Commis Restaurant and Bar in Piedmont, Ca. NOM 1137 A light grassy minerality and a clean briny finish.
The only Tequila I would recommend from La Cofradia. The notorious cofradia funk is muted just enough to make it complimentary to the agave flavor that comes through more than their other offerings. The higher proof makes it amazing for cocktails but can still be sipped. For $25 1L I think it’s a steal!
Hint of grapefruit
Decent. Bright agave notes. Not a lot of complexity. At least it’s additive free.
Good minerality in the flavor profile. Slightly sweet on the finish. Amazing value on the liters
Not a bad introductory blanco tequila , it hits all the marks agave shines additive free a little pepper on the finishing and is well priced
Great high proof budget 1l for $25. Pleasantly surprised.
This Tequila is excellent!! Even at the higher proof, and like most Tequilas, the first sip needs to adjust your palate and mouth to any Tequila - but after that, this is a very drinkable and enjoyable one. It has a unique flavor that is hard to describe, along with cinnamon and the earthy tone flavors. A true gem !
Elvelo Tequila is yet another brand to add to the list, coming out of La Cofradia distillery- NOM 1137 in the valle region of Jalisco, Mexico.

Nose: agave raw / earth / vegetal / grass / lime / lavender Taste: sweet agave cooked / cinnamon/ anise / cinnamon/ spearmint/ apple / hint of melon / orange peel / lime / nutmeg / cream soda Finish: watery wet low viscosity mouthfeel / lingering sweet agave, anise, cinnamon, and minty spearmint freshness. Slight alcohol kick at the end but not bad This blanco is a real sweet surprise. I’d heard good things and had high hopes….but when I smelled it, I was disappointed. The nose isn’t bad, but it’s just not there. I had a hard time getting any aromas….but ironically, when a tequila has a low rating nose for me, the taste is better. I definitely need to blind this one for further research. But the first pour for me was good. Technically it is a high proof.
