Wow, this is fantastic! The 110 proof pulls the agave forward despite the aging.
This is extremely delicious!
A fairly easy drinker to be 110 proof. Still deciding how I feel about extra anejos but love over proofs and the complexity of this is really good.. Most extras are fairly expensive but this is reasonable compared to others.
Terralta Extra Anejo 55 -abv Lot 1 Lote: T0001XA55 (Oct 7, 2016) Date tasted: June 18, 2022 Nose: Butterscotch, agave, fruit, mild heat but not overbearing for a 110 proof. Great nose! Taste: sweet agave, butterscotch, some, cinnamon, barrel spice, a little oak and a little, white pepper, heat. very well balanced and complex Finish: sweet agave and a long finish that lingers and continues to bring sweet heat in a good way. Excellent! Other: This is the high-proof XA, it's an old bottle with about 1/4 left in the bottle. it was amazingly delicious as i remember it. Very well balanced. Nice legs, viscous.
So much sweet agave on the nose, vanilla, distinct caramel and a hint of butterscotch. The minerals are definitely there. As it opens up, I get something almost like dulce de leche but it’s faint and disappears quickly. Some cinnamon, but surprisingly, that round, sweet agave note is dominant. A bit of raisin. The palate is immediately hit with a gorgeous medley of vanilla, caramel, and agave. Very oily and full bodied, an explosion of flavor. This is 110 proof in all of its glory. A little bit of oak and some baking spices. A fruity note, like prune or raisin, something in that range. This is a symphony of flavors and I’m here for it. This is hands down one of the best tequilas I’ve ever had. I can’t believe how much flavor there is here. It’s a little pricy but to be honest, given that it’s a 110 proof, I think it’s actually a very decent price at that $150-175 mark. That proof takes it right over the edge. There’s a little heat to let you know it’s 110, but this is amazingly drinkable. Solid stuff, one of the best I’ve ever had.
Nice XA. Has the typical agave, vanilla, and oak an XA has but the high proof of the 110 in this XA helps cut through the oakiness to make this a great sipper. Definitely something I would have a cigar with
Oak, vanilla and cooked agave on the nose... love the aroma....minerality... cooked agave is there and vanilla taste with some pepper ... long finish ....the high proof will get you there
This ones stands out from their line up. Light barrel treatment, sweet cooked agave, vanilla, light caramel, balanced alcohol
Great value for an XA. Proof is spot on, not too hot. Not too oaky. Maintains the agave with vanilla and pepper. Well balanced, wish I'd bought more.
Aroma : Complex with pear/peach fruit notes, cooked agave, vanilla, oak, and mint. Taste : You can definitely taste the extra alcohol on this one. But that does play nicely into the baking spice/black pepper spiciness this tequila has going on. There is also some degree of peach here as well as caramel and a small amount of oak. Finish : Long and somewhat hot with emphasis on the black pepper/baking spice. Some vanillla. This is definitely the 'hottest' tequila I've had from NOM 1579. Great complex flavor but interesting to see such an alcohol presence on a bottle like this. But then again, this is a 110 proof, so I'll have to see how similar ABV's measure up.
Weird amount of sweetness compared to the regular expression, I expected a lot more punch due to the ABV! It’s a nice tequila but not elite.
Nose: Lush cooked agave, redolent of recently cooked agave, newly out of the horno. Ripe pitted fruit, minerals, peach pit and vanilla. And a bit of olive. Flavor: Viscous and vibrant mouth sensation - barrel spice, white pepper, black pepper, faint citrus and caramel. Somewhat palate numbing alcohol at 55% ABV. A hint of bitterness. Finishes with substantial heat and trace vanilla. A somewhat hot finish.
Great agave flavor!! Talking to master distiller Felipe Camarena, head of Destileria el Pandillo, they aged their tequila using exhausted american white oak casks so the flavor of the agave stands out and the wood flavor keeps diminished. Great peppermint taste at the back of the tongue, propper of this great ultra aged tequila!! Loved it and one of my favorites!!
The higher ABV certainly presents a more complex aroma. The minerality from the 40% is still present along with fruit (apple, pear) and oak. The flavor definitely has a higher heat level than the 40. However, the spice is almost like a nice, hot pepper rather than a total heat bomb. The spice in the flavor is also accompanied by some nice vanilla and fruit notes. The finish and flavor are long. 12/30/2016 - 4th Annual Xmas XA tasting.
Aroma: Love the high proof Blancos because you get so much more aroma. I get green apple, mint, caramel, vanilla and even some cooked agave. It's incredibly complex. Flavor: Interestingly enough, I get lots of melon. There's also some pepper and caramel but because of the high proof the flavors really stand out. Finish: a little strong but not too overpowering. Very solid for 110 and doesn't blow your head off.
Great nose…. Agave forward, dried fruit, cherry, very light alcohol. Straw-colored in the glass. Silky mouthfeel. Cooked agave, vanilla, caramel with smoky- sweetness. Long cinnamon-spice finish. Real nice.
Nose: honey, caramel, cooked agave, cinnamon, whiskey , alcohol , vanilla Taste: whiskey, caramel, vanilla , tannins, pineapple Some heat but we’ll balance with cooked agave and barrel really nice to drink some tannins but overall a nice sipper
Nose is incredible, everything is perfectly balanced, what a treat
Good god, quality never tasted better! Baked agave and salted caramel and dried rose petals and white pepper. Just amazing!
Hot and flavorful
This stuff is coming in HOT! Jumps around in your mouth. Smells great, agave, spice, vanilla. I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor, I can't quite put my finger on why. Finish is smoking hot. Its good, but I actually like the blanco better.
I liked the tequila but for the price better the Blanco. Smell: vanilla with a peppery with a spicy finish. Taste: Smooth, light agave flavour and very different to the smell. Finish: it has a good finish specially because it's a overproof tequila and it's very satisfying in the throat too.
Vanilla and smoky on the back. Honestly this is a better mixing tequila...which is good or bad for an extra anejo
Mineral, oak, guava sweetness on the nose, not overpowered by the overproof. Papaya stone fruit sweetness on the palate. Well balanced by barrel and not overly boozy.

Wow! This is fantastic. I could nose this all day as it is so well done. Beautiful vanilla, caramel and oak notes on the nose and palate but not overpowering and oh my that 110 proof is present in a delicious way on the palate and finish which lingers in a beautiful heat. I’m glad to have tried this.
