Terralta Reposado Lote 1 Lote: 0001R40 (Oct 21, 2016) Tasting Date: June 17, 2022 Nose: agave spices oak vanilla fruit with a twinge of pungency (not off putting) Taste: agave fruit vanilla butterscotch a little pepper Finish: nice finish. Sweet agave with a little pepper and heat. Other: this is an old bottle with about 1/4 left in the bottle. it was still delicious and very well balanced. Nice legs, viscosity is buttery not too thick not watery. easy sipper!
Cooked agave and minerality on the nose….some oak but not overly present black pepper and some hints of floral ….agave on the mouth with minerality …. medium finish
Aroma: Agave, and a sharp note that reminds me of sourdough bread. Palate: Surprisingly sweet agave, and vanilla bean. Butter, minerals, and citrus. White pepper on the finish. Lingering clove or baking spice note. Verdict: Another stunner from 1579, Terralta might just be the best of the bunch for me. For the $42 I paid for this, it’s almost a steal.
This was a Mexico bottle at 38°/76 proof. The lower proof may be why my score was a bit higher than those that rated the American version. It’s delicious at 38°!
Nose opens with agave, oak and citrus followed by minerals. Aroma carries through to flavor, although oak is not masking anything. Mineral and earth comes through from use of well water. Butterscotch, vanilla, cinnamon highlight the great finish. Felipe does it again. A top reposado for about $49
I ranked this one pretty high but it hit me just right. Very light tinting on this due to the reuse barrels. The nose is full of cooked agave, baking spice, oak, honey, and a faint earthy floral note that kept my face in my glass over and over. Well water influence I'm sure. On the palate the agave and oak dominate, feeding more baking spice. Black pepper, white pepper, wet earth, citrus, vanilla, and stone fruits are all present. The aging managed to leave plenty of alcohol bite without being a flaw- just enough to know it's not messing around. Medium dry finish. Another banger from EP!
Like this repo from an outstanding NOM. Light, sweet agave and vanilla flavors. Well balanced, true to the spirit
Cooked agave, vanilla, caramel, slight oak on the nose. Some floral notes as it opens up. Cooked agave comes through in the flavor with oak, pepper, a bit of mineral. Finish starts buttery and ends long and spicy. One of my favorite reposados without a doubt!
Tons of agave on the nose, unfortunately the oak exposure has muted the flavour that I love so much. This is still an exceptional tequila and anyone will make anyone smile once they try it!!
TMM Reposado Blind Tasting
Vivacious nose. Ripe full agave notes with floral undertones, sweet spices, ripe peaches, and a touch of pungency. Minerals with a touch of edginess. Flavor: Pepper heat, tons of agave, fruit, vanilla, butterscotch and almond cream. A cider sweetness and light salinity. A big hit of anise. Finish lingers. I could drink this all night. These guys makes outstanding juice!
This was a really well balanced Reposado that has a ton of cooked agave character, a thick and oily mouthfeel and a long finish with a great balance of barrel influence and agave kick. The bottle didn't last long.
I was really excited with the nose but was let down with the body and the finish. Lacks a punch and the finish is surprisingly short and underwhelming.
Mexico version, 38 abv: Wet earth, hint of jalapeño, vanilla nose. Nice mouthfeel and minerality. Naturally sweet -Too easy to drink! This is my regular go-to.
Very spicy and a logical extension of the blanco presentation. Lightly aged with oak elements evident this is an agave explosion in your mouth. Not for everyone, this is a big punchy, in your face repo.
Has the same profile of the Blanco with a hint of oakiness from the barrel aging that also brings out some deeper floral aromas and flavors. This was the first pour from a new bottle and I assume it will change over the next few weeks as it opens up a bit. I might add some more notes. Terralta has quickly become my favorite tequila so far. I adore their Blanco.
The aroma is crisp and vegetal with fresh agave, earth, potent minerality that is reminiscent of wet concrete, dark berries, green citrus and sharp ethyl which cuts through it all distinctly. An atomic agave bomb in the mouth with, caramel, a flash of brown sugar, yeast, oak, mint, cacao, walnuts, brine, fresh, crisp, and vegetal. More initial ethyl than I expected but over a few sips and days it becomes more subdued allowing for more wood notes to be enjoyed. Finish is fresh agave with distinct and crisp minerality.
The only brand I haven’t had from EP is Primo. Of the lot, I’ve gone back to the Terralta Repo the most. I’m a blanco man at heart, but damn it this just speaks to me. One of the reviewers Ryan August hit everything on the aroma and palate. This has been my repeat buy more than any other brand. I’m one of the few I guess to prefer this over G4.
Cinnamon.
Compared Mexican national first lot: LT0001RN38 bottled on 06/07/2017 @ 38% abv. with 4th export lot: LT0004R40 bottled on 12/07/22 @ 40% abv. Points given are for the slightly higher Mexican lot. Mexican national first lot: Color: light yellow. Aroma: cooked agave, vanilla, light aromatic wood notes, acidic, just a touch of mint, citrus, light stone fruit sweetness. Good sweet & sour and citrus balance. Palate: cooked agave, good sweet & sour balance, citrus, aromatic wood, vanilla, after all flavors are balanced the sweet cooked agave becomes sweeter and more intense. Finish is medium to long, the sweet cooked agave, citrus & a slightly bitter note persist. 4th export lot (83 points) compared to Mexican national lot: Color: just a tad of yellow. Aroma: a lot more minty, almost no wood notes, and less sweet. Palate: also a lot more minty, fresh, less wood notes & less sweet. Finish is similar in the way that the cooked agave notes shine through and persist.
Flavor is the best feature of this one. Nice barrel treatment. I think that the quality in the making of this tequila really come through, this is an excellent high quality product for a very reasonable price. It does not have the most complex flavor profile, but I could drink this all the time with no complaints. Thumbs up!
I found this while visiting the Big Island in Hawaii. I’m not really a reposado guy, but I wanted to try this as I saw it in a store. It’s very sweet, I think from the barrel (but I’m not sure because I’ve not yet had the Terralta Blanco) I feel like this is one of those where the barrel influence mellows it out a bit and makes it more approachable. It smells and tastes like agave, and then with the barrel sweetness that I would classify as “just before” Oak flavor. It’s good, not great but also cheap so it gets some points in the great direction all things considered.
Lot #1 38% mx versión.
Great Tequila out of one of the best distilleries in Buttery mouth feel, Sweet Agave up front with Vanilla, Carmel and a touch of minerals. This tequila is excellent and in my opinion as good as any out there. One of my go-tos and I believe is as good as G4.
We sent 4 new-to-market reposado tequilas to our tasting panel to get their opinions. They were selected because of their different flavor profiles, and because we think they are good quality tequilas worthy of consideration.
