Good price
Pushed by Total Wine and at 1.75 Lt about 30 bucks for 750 ml. not much on the nose, a little barrel and vanilla. Mouth feel is good, Vanilla, Carmel, Oak on taste with a nice smooth finish. May have a little added vanilla but not too much or overpowering. The distillery that this comes out of is a huge contract manufacture and most of their stuff has a similar taste to me. That noted its not a bad starter for someone new to tequila and and at a great price point for 1.75. Not traditional but not bad. Overall a good option for a party for folks that are not yet to the point of a more traditional anejo that is more peppery.
NOM 1438 | Vanilla and where is the agave. Finish is mild with mild slow pepper burn. Vanilla and mild alcohol taste. Not bad to sip.
NOM 1601 | Nose: Vanilla, Caramel, Alcohol, Oak, very light Cooked agave once you find your way past the overpowering vanilla and caramel, with a light oakiness. Also a heady floral note, maybe orange blossom or jasmine, and the longer it opens up, candied orange and dried banana. Palate: vanilla caramel, alcohol, but with a saltiness that gives a salted caramel flavor that gives way to a lightly oaky cooked agave flavor. Also notes of cinnamon, toffee, The finish starts with agave and oak, but fades out with the strong bitterness of artificial sugars like too much monk fruit or aspartame. This is almost liqueur sweet and hides the agave and barrel flavors behind vanilla and caramel flavorings. Mouthfeel is very round, but there is little complexity overall. No vegetal notes or minerality, and not enough citrus to get ahead of the sweetness. I’ll be giving this bottle away.
Nose is average with mild agave and wood. It was smooth on the palate and would liken it to a similar patron anejo flavor that has light amber and woodiness. The price value is what makes this one good value and flavor.
It’s pretty smooth but on a heavy side. Tastes more like vodka than tequila. Doesn’t taste or smell like tequila. No Agave taste. It’s a great tequila for sipping- maybe on the rocks. For shots - not so much.
Vanilla dominates the nose. Oak is second, agave a distant third. on the pallette: vanilla again dominates. Oak is strong but doesn't overpower. the agave is not forward, but present. Alcohol burn is mild throughout. I don't know for sure if additives are present, but I really think the vanilla was added. would recommend for an inexpensive mixing anejo (which always has value) but I would not call this a sipper.
Nose: Agave, vanilla, butterscotch, oak Palate: Slight agave note with a predominant vanilla and butterscotch/caramel flavor with black pepper and barrel spice accent. Short finish and average mouth feel. Thoughts: For the price tag, it's a decent añejo. I'd consider getting it again.
Nose: Butter Sweet Vanilla Caramel Taste: Butter Vanilla Alcohol Good value at $37.99 750ml
Very vanilla sweet. Not like a completely natural unaltered anejo which derives complex flavors from barreling. The aftertaste lingers with a sweetness that coats. Not recommended.
A Sugar Bomb! Nose: sweet, sweet, sweet- caramel with banana and subtle oak. Almost perfumey-sweet. Taste: same notes as in the smell, sweet, but not overpowering, pleasant, actually. Finish: smooth and pleasant Value: not bad, probably good for anyone new to tequilas, maybe thisnis why it’s heavily marketed at Total Wine.
I think this is way, way over-oaked. Agave is barely detectable on the nose and palate. The caramel/whiskey/barrel notes are present but there’s not much balance. The finish is probably the only highlight here - I get a nice amount of sweetness and a kick of cinnamon. Overall, I prefer the blanco much more. If you’re at Total Wine specifically looking for an añejo though, I think Arette, Manik, and Espolon are much better than this for around the same price ($~40).
This is a very aromatic tequila where the oak brightens up your senses with some vegetal notes. Fragrant with some orange blossom to enhance its floral attributes. Tasting of this brings about some butterscotch and cedar wood. It has some dried vegetal attributes helped from being identified on the nose. Finish is a bit rough around the edges but helps impart the flavor you experience through tasting.
Toasted marshmallow
Oh man! The smell first off is vanilla banana caramel. The test comes back with probably some oak definitely some smoke vanilla
Aroma Oak followed by caramel, alcohol, and cooked agave. Taste Vanilla and caramel followed by oak and baking spices.
Vanilla
I love this anejo. Great aroma of caramel and tasting notes of caramel and vanilla. Great price and super smooth.
This is a unique tequila. It is very smoky in both taste, and smell. Hints of oak throughout the experience. It is smooth to drink, but a tiny bite at the end. Very mellow and flavorful. Great for sharing and sipping.
Oaky and slightly smoky flavor very smooth. Nice amber color bottle design with leather wrapped lace on neck of bottle is a nice touch.
Noticeable yet mellow agave up front, followed shortly by bright, pepper-like spice & oak. It has a medium length finish with soft undertones of vanilla and caramel. With all that said, this añejo leaves a little more to be desired but it’s still a nice sipper. 7.5/10
This is my first Añejo, and I admit not having high hopes based on my experience with the less ages Herradura reposado. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. This is great to smell and to sip, and even in cocktails if you must.
First aroma wafts of toffee and caramel, subtle green plantain notes, oak barrel spice and tannins, brown sugar flavors, very pleasant overall.
A House of Payne favorite! The go to after the good stuff. Very drinkable at a great price.

Some how I feel this tequila has something not natural. It is sweet but a wierd sweet. maybe try it again.
