Blind tasted: Subtle oak, jamoncillo, caramel, vanilla, barrel spice, spices, low to medium complexity, cooked agave is present
Oak, agave, cinnamon, honey, leather, fruit, vanilla. Approachable, but a tad sweet for me.
This is a good ankle. Loads of agave up front with a nice cinnamon and baking spice notes, with some oak little vanilla, a good bit of pitted fruit like plum and nice peppery finish that stays on the tongue for a medium finish.
Aroma : Cooked agave, oak. Some vanilla and barrel/baking spice too. Taste : Cooked agave and barrel/baking spice predominate here. There is also some amount of oak and vanilla as well, and light citrus. This is medium bodied and somewhat oily. Finish : Medium/long with stronger spices and oak.
Baking spice!
An interesting añejo, with aromas of cooked agave, leather and cinnamon. The flavor has bright citrus and peach. Tastes sophisticated and refreshing.
Light sweet honey oak aroma, subtle cooked agave. Surprisingly very little burn for an añejo, smooth enjoyable finish.
Herbal, touch vegetal, savory, long savory & dry finish. I have to be in mood for this.
Found this pleasant on the nose and palate both. Nice finish. Strong spice notes, but not at all overwhelming.
Nice and crisp! Clean finish! Not too oaky/vanilla.
Date: Originally reviewed 8/21/2013. Source: My private collection. Setup: Riedel Overture glass, neat, room temperature. I thoroughly enjoyed this tequila which is from from NOM 1412 (Destiladora de Los Altos, S.A. de C.V.) which also makes Hacienda Vieja tequila. The distillery is located in Arandas which is in the highlands (Los Altos). It is named after Don Felix Bañuelos, the founder of the distillery and patriarch of a widely recognized tequila family from Arandas. The price is around $50 for a 750ml bottle. Don Felix is double distilled. This is definitely a tequila made for sipping neat. I prefer a Riedel which I used for this tasting. Don Felix has an initial aroma of light fruit, peach - maybe a little apricot, caramel, some cooked agave, a hint of honey and very little oak. It is very pleasing on the nose. It has an oily, rich, creamy mouth feel. The taste starts with hints of vanilla, fruit and cooked agave and spice. It has just the right amount of sweetness. This is an extremely smooth anejo, with very little burn, and a lot of flavor. The finish is long lasting with again, a lot of flavor including oak and more spice. I keep using the word flavor but don't worry it's not the kind overburdening flavor that makes you wonder if essence or sweeteners were added, but the type of flavor that reminds what good anejo should taste like. I highly recommend it.
I am more of a beginner when it comes to fine tequila and so far this one has been by far the absolute best!! Smooth going down and taste that is great in the beginning and the end.
Has a very herbal agave organic taste.
Really is a great bargain as far as most equivalent anejo's go. Light flavor and smooth with a decent amount of heat on the tongue.
$45 a bottle, a hidden jewel if you can find it. I've tasted some tequilas at twice the price and not near the value.
Very crisp, light. Semi sweet. Smooth but not syrupy.
Such a wonderful and smooth aroma of oak, cinnamon, nuts, sweet cocked agave and maybe honey, aroma very pleasant! Flavor very good not as good as the aroma but is very smooth. Tastes like honey and nuts then I was able to identify the sweet cocked agave and cinnamon and at the end the oak wood and a little spice all the flavors nicely balanced. I bought this tequila for 32 dollars I like the price too! Definitely will buy again!
Strong flavor and relatively smooth finish. Very fragrant aroma lots of spiciness with cinnamon and barrel flavor. At $43, not a great value.
Absolutely fantastic flavor and finish.
consistent throughout
Bought on a whim, at $39 it is the bargain of the year. This is a very smooth Anejo with excellent flavors. I would recommend this tequila for your collection
