We can’t always have additive free or complex tequilas. This is one that’s common at parties and gatherings and it gets the Job done. Nothing special but decent enough to enjoy and relax.

Bottle has 2008 stamp and is 35% ABV. Absolutely awful, this is weak sugar water with a minimal amount of wood and alcohol, I think. No, just no.

I like this offering best of the four tequilas Gran Centenario produces. “Smooth” nice finish, reasonably priced. I find it a good value for mixing or occasional sipping.

Nose: An unidentifiable floral or fruity note layered in oak sawdust. Arid earth. Flavor: Hot and bitter entry. There is some sweetness that has an aftertaste that is not pleasant. Hints of caramel or butterscotch, but masked in the overwhelming bitterness.

The oak treatment helps this out a bit, tons of mint and bitterness from the barrel.

A classic tequila; good balance of agave, wood, spice and heat. Medium body and finish.

The tequila that got me interested in finding better tequilas ... Tastes a bit like Cuervo gold but much better?!?

Alcohol, caramel aroma. Alcohol, cinnamon, slightly sweet flavor. Good burn. Okay for mixing.

Mexican 35% abv. version Pleasant aroma; agave, caramel, vanilla, floral, fruit notes and oak. Some vanilla sweetness, a little agave but very smooth with almost no lingering flavors on the palate.

This is an average reposado. Nothing spectacular going on here. Not too strong , and would be a good mixer, not a lot of flavour as a sipper, but has a pleasant alcohol burn.

It is not something I have at home. However, this is my go to tequila when the establishment does not have additive free options. It doesn’t taste as sugary sweet as others, but the flavor profile is not nearly as complex as better tequilas.

022 10 262, marbete is from 2009, Mexican 35% abv. version. Color: light yellow. Aroma: light vanilla with strong wet earthy aroma, very light cooked agave note, alcohol sensation is very low. Light mandarin note. Palate: light vanilla & mandarin, a hint of oak, wet earth, almost can’t taste or smell cooked agave notes… Finish is medium, light vanilla with mandarin and wet earth notes persist.

Nose: Smells like cooked agave and lots of oak and vegetal. Almost bitter finish. Taste: tastes like licking the inside of a barrel. Incredible woody and somewhat off-putting. Pretty smokey. Meh finish that left me wishing I had chosen something else.

As a novice tequila drinker, I'm beginning to like the centenario brand. This reposado was great, tasted good with lemon and salt (shots) and wasn't to overpowering making mixed drinks. I'd highly recommend this for shots, it's not to overpowering and the lemons neutralizes the tequila kick, goes down smooooooth. As for a sipper, well I'm not much of a sipper so i couldn't tell you. But I'd definitely buy this again.

Gran Centenario Repo $36USD (Virginia ABC) Overall: A solid mid-tier mixto. I'll echo Greg Bartollota's commeni, thus is the best of then Gran Centenario line up. A soft nose with hay, carmel, fruit and oak. The taste is slightly bitter oak, roasted agave, and a touch of fruit. Nothing particularly stands out.

I found alcohol on the nose most overbearing. Not until after many sips, placing two ice cubes that the tastes became apparent.

A little better scent than blanco. Taste is pretty solid, but not fantastic. Finish is decent too.

Review #263 - Gran Centenario Tequila Reposado

Moving backwards. I had the Gran Centenario Anejo and I liked it a lot more than I thought that I would. I'm always up for being pleasantly surprised a 2nd time by the same brand.
