Lots of alcohol and agave all-around. Caramel and wood notes initially, then earth, agave, pepper and some chocolate on the palate. Finish is medium to short, dark chocolate and mocha.

This doesn’t stray far from the profile of the blanco except it has a really gentle nose, almost neutral. Unbalanced sweetness shows up at the end to round things off, it’s ok.

Aroma: Getting a medicinal note again like in the Blanco. There is a very minimal hint of oak and caramel but it still is pretty harsh. Flavor: Slightly bitter. Definitely some oak and finishes with some vanilla. Not at solid as the Blanco but not terrible. Finish: Again, a very solid finish. A little harsh but hangs around for a while.

Again, the slight note of alcohol/petrol on the initial aroma. This is quickly overwhelmed by sweet fruit and oak. The color is relatively pale and the oak aromas are subtle. I would guess this spends a relatively short time in barrel. The flavor is very consistent with the blanco - peppermint with sweet fruit although I don't get any real agave flavor in the repo. The finish is again relatively short. 06/18/2017 (vertical tasting)

NOM 1137 | Nice French oak flavors but has a metallic/ petroleum quality that spoils the finish.

NOM 1137 | Mexican 38% abv. version, it has a hollow front label seeing through bottle to info printed on the inside of the rear label. No. LOTE 57000003, looks like a 90’s ~ 00’s bottling, tasted on 1-15-24. Color: just a tad of yellow. Aroma: cooked agave, light citrus, earthy almost dusty sensation, slightly herbaceous. Light vanilla. Palate: confirms aromas perceived, sharp ethanol sensation, the dusty sensation is quite dominating and is not pleasant, even through my retronasal. I feel that this dusty sensation appears in bottles that are very old, maybe 15 plus years and above in the glass bottle and the dusty sensation appears. Finish is medium, cooked agave, citrus and dusty sensation persists.

This tastes so smooth that I expected it to be triple distilled. I think it could use a bit of copper pot raunch but it's quite nice.

Has definitely some additives in it. If you don’t have a problem with that you will like it. Strong chocolate mocha flavour.

I rescued this bottle from a little hole in the wall place I stopped at called LaTienda, it was run by a sweet old Asian lady, after an internal chuckle I grabbed the bottle and wiped of a layer of dust and bought it for 45$. As for the tequila it does have a really heavy alcohol smell and the first glass was a bit harsh. After opening up to the air the harsh bite backed of and some of the flavors stepped up. Although very very light the sweetness of the agave mixed well with the peppery bite. I like it but probably won’t return to the well when I can get better cheaper.

Review #111 - Amate Tequila Reposado

A strong coffee/chocolate flavored reposado that strays a bit too far from the agave flavor. It starts out well and then ends a little bit on the bitter side.
