Aroma of agave and oak right up front followed by a floral and chocolate note. Flavor is a real nice oak and agave balance where one doesn't overpower the other. Some cooked brown sugar sweetness and cinnamon and peppery finish. Didn't get the overpowering heat that some have mentioned but enough to keep a nice presence in carrying the flavors well into the finish
A masterpiece. Simply excellent. 1579 Gem. Buy one
very nice and agave forward, but a little sweet, and a bit of alcohol buzzing
Purchased in June 2022 for USD140. Aroma: plenty of cooked agave well balanced with oak, minerality, light fruitiness and citrus, orange. Palate: see aroma. Reminiscent of a creamy soda? Very unusual, but very enjoyable. Finish: orange, creaminess, alcohol and minerals.
This XA is an instant classic. So much going on here. Transitions from a fantastic blanco through all the Pasote expressions to get to this killer XA. Retains all of the warmth from the agave from the blanco and then some! Oily upon entry with yams, berries, candied walnuts, dried fruit. pineapple, blood orange, nutmeg, cinnamon, citrus, toffee, so much goodness here! One of the best XAs made in recent years!
Light in color. Heat, whiskey, cooked agave. I wanted to really like this since I am a huge Pasote Blanco fan. Will need to retaste at another time. Didn’t feel it lived up to its reviews. / retasted again and found it opened up and was outstanding
Aroma : Full of cooked agave, vanilla, oak. This also carries some fruity undertones in the form of apple/pineapple/pear notes. Taste : The fruity undertones from the aroma carry through strongly here, accompanied by agave, citrus, and some minerality. There is also a hint of spice here that contrasts the sweeter fruit flavors, and the texture is oily and full bodied. Finish : Decently long and carries stronger notes of oak and vanilla that invite you back for another sip, and another, and another... This is like Cascahuín Extra Añejo's long lost cousin when it comes to the cooked agave/fruity flavor dynamic with some barrel notes; one of the possible routes a distiller may take in making a great Extra Añejo. In other words, buy this.
Another classic Pandillo/Felipe Camarena XA with its pale color and complex aroma of cooked agave, citrus, sweet fruit (apple, plum) and underpinning minerality (wet stone, clay). Spicy heat sits right on top of sweet fruit flavor at the open. (This is a contrast to many tequilas that open with sweetness then shift to spice. A really nice blend here.) These two continue to blend and dissipate at a similar pace in a mid to long finish. Again, the higher ABV is hardly noticeable in terms of heat but does push the agave and other flavors forward. Quite a bit of similarity between the Pasote and the Volans but to my taste the Pasote comes out slightly ahead. 12-24-2019 7th Annual Xmas XA tasting
Nose is wonderfully bright cooked agave, nutmeg, cinnamon and citrus and it just delivers Taste is just a fantastic as the bright agave turns into cinnamon for a moment and then solid black pepper. Just as you appreciate the pepper, the ride starts again as caramelly/vanilla finish lasts for the perfect amount of time. What a journey
This 4 year XA from Felipe is special. The nose is complex. I detect cooked agave, sweet juicy plum , vanilla and some slight oak. I taste a sweet mineral brine, cooked agave and toasted brûlée. The finish is as wonderful as the first taste. This is truly a sipping tequila. ¡Salud!
Aged 4 years in used barrels, this XA from the mind of Felipe Camarena has a golden color with some copper highlights. Presented in a polished, heavy glass bottle and a basic clamshell case this resembles the well known Avion 44 package. At a similar price point to the A 44 this XA has a very different flavor profile with a full and robust flavor imparted by Bib & Tucker barrels in El Pandillo's cellar. At 45% ABV this has a ton of spice on the palate from agave and barrel spice of caramel, oak, clove as well as a nice bite from the higher ABV. The taste is full with natural sweetness and some nice oiliness and really blooms with a small amount held in the mouth and worked around the tongue and gums for 20-30 seconds before swallowing. This finishes with a hint of bitter from the barrel but with everything else going on it isn't worth taking score away.
A lucky find in San Antonio, 1579 Pasote is something to behold.
What an extra añejo!!! I have to say that the fact that it is 45abv helps keep the agave presence in the front lines. It’s so clean and well-made. It has everything: sweet agave, oak, vanilla, alcohol. Its finish is outstanding. I love this extra añejo, and I am not into them. It is sad to know that it is never to be made again in NOM 1579.
Underwhelmed after two tries. Gonna let the bottle open up for a bit to see if that helps. Ethanol heavy with a bitter aftertaste.
Light aromatics of honey, agave, smoke and mineral Flavour profile is floral, blossom, burnt caramel, caramel, vanilla, walnuts black pepper, white pepper and wet stone
On the nose you’re greeted with an explosion of sweet agave, green apple, pears and honey. On the palate you’re hit with agave, caramel, pepper and in the middle there’s a delicious amount of brine and minerals that then transitions into a creamy oak finish.
Lot: LP0001XA45, bottled on 17/04/2019. Color: light yellow. Aroma: sweet agave! Mint, slightly acidic, light stone fruit sweetness, alcohol sensation is low and very well integrated, fresh & crisp! Palate: sweet cooked agave, minty, mineral, good sweet & sour balance. Finish is medium to long, sweet agave notes lingers.
NOM 1579 is undoubtedly one of my Top 5 Extra Añejo tequilas to date. Get them before they're completely gone.
On the nose I get some caramel, honey and vanilla with some minerality. While also getting some barrel influence. On the palate I taste some grilled pineapple , Caramel, and agave
Amazing. Sad it’s not produced anymore.
One of the best balanced tequilas that I’ve had. Oak, agave and bakery shop notes on the nose. Bold flavors of oak, agave, vanilla icing, key lime and yellow cake. Long lingering sweet finish with a touch of pepper. Sublime.
Aroma is truly special. Oak, fruits, subtle candied apple . Spice notes, perfect amount of heat. Nice sipper
Aroma is sweet agave and fruity Taste is agave, citrus Finish is short and smooth

NOM 1579 updating 4.7.2024 Having with Alan at Luis Torres hacienda 4/7/24 This tequila from 1579 is amazing and perfectly balanced. It is now my favorite xa Smell = tropical fruit, barrel spices and sweet cooked agave, brown sugar, cinnamon Palate = sweet agave, sweet potatoes, barrel spices Finish = medium heat 93 pts I've had this in the past when it was first introduced ? 2016? but I hadn't rated it. revisiting with a small sample cooked agave, hints of apple, pears, some barrel notes, not a lot of oak, which I like, a little heat on the end. well balanced
