Great nose. Cooked agave coming through and the rain water gives it a very fresh, green, grassy aroma. Flavor is nice. Sweet, with some cooked agave, minerality, anise toward the end. I get a little fruitiness as well. Finish is not super long but good. A little bit of heat on the back end and finishes green. I wanted to like this tequila more but it’s got a sweetness (not fake) to it that I don’t love and I feel like the agave is a little lost.
In the glass it’s perfectly clear and clean with tears that definitely linger. The expected mouthfeel is something to look forward to. On the nose it’s agave front and center. Fresh rain and minerals are also there, waiting patiently. The palate is again cooked agave dominant with minerals, black pepper, and grass complimenting nicely. Great mouthfeel as expected. It’s got a long finishing heat with a lingering vegetal component that is not unwelcome. Definitely a regular in my home collection!
An amazing sample of the perfect Blanco, earthy, mineral, slight spice/pepper, beautiful cooked agave. A true winner. One of the best
Re-rating with the new wood fermented batch. On the nose, cooked agave, but also something vegetal. Lots of noticeable citrus, like orange peel and lemon peel. Something like pine. Honestly I almost want to say Pine Sol, but not in a bad way, if that makes sense. Definitely some spices, something between cinnamon and clove. On the palate, that citrus and agave combo, with a distinct cinnamon note on the end. Dry and oily, really coats the tongue. I get some of the minerals but distinct piney/citrusy note dominates throughout for me. Super creamy, almost like a lemon agave custard. The agave and the creamy citrus are so intermingled that I can’t get one without the other. Tasted side by side with an original batch and they’re very different. In a blind tasting, I wouldn’t have even guessed they were the same tequila. Both are excellent, but very different. I hope they keep making both.
One of the best examples of Los Altos tequila. Nice floral, agave forward, butter, light spice and pepper with a little citrus...just absolutely amazing
Very, very well made Blanco. Crisp, clean, grassy, can taste the agave with every sip. A winner from Felipe C. and his amazing El Pandillo distillery. Excellent value as well, one of the best 4-5 tequilas you can get for under $40 in So Cal. Great neat, on the big rock or in a cocktail.
Aroma : Cooked agave, peppercorns, vegetal and light earth. Little bit of citrus here too. Taste : Lots of agave, black pepper and there's some earth and grass notes here as well that are unique in character. The trademark grass and earth of this tequila hold the place of minerality with Pasote. Full and thick flavor. Finish : Long and prolongs more cooked agave flavors and earth. It doesn't really do this tequila justice to say it tastes like "agave, pepper, earth, and grass" there's something unique about these flavors that you have to experience.
Tequila is made with agave crop from Las Pómez farm. Aroma includes lots of cooked agave, nuts, cucumber, herbal, pepper, vegetal. Oily mouth with butter and citrus in flavor. Finish mixed with minerals, agave, white pepper and herbal notes. Lots of pearls and skinny legs left behind. $49/bottle
Oh yes. This is where it’s at. Minerals on the nose, limestone. Taste is agave forward, well rounded, slightly sweet. Fantastic taste. Great long finish, with just enough heat to remind you it’s a blanco. Love it
Agave and Pears
OMG this is amazing!! Tons of agave with a confectionary backdrop, it literally makes me want to drink it by the pint!
This tequila has a wonderful nose with notes of agave, earthy tones and citrus. Wonderful flavors of cooked agave and pepper with a beautiful balanced finish. Just a great blanco and one of my favorite blancos to sip
Amazing blanco from Felipe and El Pandillo distillery. Tastes like it smells, which is rare. Beautiful agave, black pepper and grass aroma (like a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich). Agave, spearmint and grass up front with a dill and orange blossom finish. One of the best blancos i have had.
Sweet, agave, pepper, clean, and tasty.
Cooked agave with a sweet floral and slight citrus on the nose. A full flavored blanco with nice long, smooth and well rounded finish. It’s one of the best out there.
Grassy nose, with nice earth and mineral notes. Some pineapple and a hint of lactic. Big ripe agave notes. Warm spices and caramelized agave embrace one another. Nice oily viscosity covers your tongue with light sweetness and crisp elements. Nice spiciness, and a faint taste of dill. A little smokiness on the finish.
Nose of cooked agave and pepper. Few pearls hang on the glass while thick legs slowly sheet away. Mild entry that coats the palate, pleasantly viscous, but not in a thick sticky way. Moderate cooked agave, grapefruit and pepper notes predominate on the palate with very slight hints of butterscotch? Flavorful but not aggressive. Finish is slightly dry on the top of the palate, long and peppery with some baked agave sweetness lingering.
Minty!
I also brought this wonderful spirit back from Tlaquepaque, Jal. I think I paid 200 pesos. I'm would be matching John Welch's rating with a 94 but I want to explain how I got to a 90. Aroma 20 flavor 30 finish 24 value 10. This tequila had everything I want except it was a little light on the nose. I hope it will be available for purchase in the US at a similar price range as I found in Mexico otherwise it will change my overall rating if I have to pay the ridiculous US prices.
By design this tequila has a very low methanol content of less than 150ppm. This is accomplished from the very start by hand selecting only the finest estate grown agaves, trimming close to eliminate the waxy green leaves and by not adding any additives to the water used to steam the agave, which most distilleries use to prevent corrosion. The steam is then applied from the top down, which no one does and from the bottom up as the rest do. This prevents overcooking the agave on the bottom of the horno and undercooking at the top. After crushing the agave with a device of the owner's design, rainwater is added to make the fermentation slow and consistant after which a double distillation occurs in a copper still. The entire process is as clean and green as is humanly possible. It shows in the final product. Highly recommended.
Aroma of wet cement and dirt with slight floral scent of sweet spice. Initial mild floral flavor along with something else I would describe as yeasty or bread-y. The flavor then builds to a peppery spice. Long warm, spicy finish. 7/24/2015 (updated)
Aroma: The aroma is very interesting. It's a little sour and earthy. I get notes of citrus and clay. There is a hint of agave but it is very subtle. Flavor: Slight hint of pepper and raw agave. It's pretty mellow in terms of flavor but it builds into a pretty powerful finish.
It's a good blanco with a very nice mouthfeel and green elements, which somehow evoke other very popular blancos. The fact there is absolutely no burn pleasantly surprises in the entry, but short after ends up defining a certain lack of complexity.
I'm no expert tequila rater but here goes nothing. I brought this back from Arandas on my last trip and remember it being about $13 usd, a tremendous value. Very smooth for a Blanco, no burn at any stage of the tasting. I get lots of citrus and the after taste is very sweet. This is the first blanco I've tried where the oiliness on your tongue really stands out. Updated years later. Still oily in a good way. Green apple, grassy. Retails for $37 US and that's a very fair price.

Don't love it but it's the staple of Blanco tequila. Very authentic flavor
