NOM 1146 Been years since I've drank this. I must re-visit to see if my palate changed. Should get interesting.
NOM 1146. Got this 5 year XA like 3 years ago, my palate has expanded a bit since to say the least and I lean towards blancos/agave heavy tequilas most of the time now. This is not that, through no fault of its own. It’s very oak heavy, with lots of caramel and vanilla, very sweet. It’s smells great, quick finish. No agave notes though, like with most tequilas that spend too much time in a barrel, the agave gets lost. It’s very smooth and is an easy sipper though. Most will enjoy but more diehard aficionados might want to look to other XA’s like Tapatio’s Excelencia for a more enjoyable pour.
I don’t want the score to skew how much I actually like this but we are rating tequila after all......tons of oak and banana penicillin on the nose, it you aren’t curious after a sniff then nothing will interest you. MASSIVE butterscotch flavour that fades away once the vanilla fights its way to the surface, save the calories next time you order dessert and have one of these instead. Dry finish that fades away just as it’s welcome expires, overall this is a great curiosity.
Tastes like Coca Cola. I kid you not.
Bold, complex nose... Cherry, fruit and caramel. Some black pepper and tannins. Medium finish with some alcohol. Interesting, although not agave forward expression.
Its intense vanilla aroma is an invitation to this sweet sipper. Flavor is dripping with vanilla, cream soda, and honey. There’s little trace of the agave after 5 years in new French oak, and while there’s hints of oak and cinnamon—the profile is overwhelmingly sweet with a smooth finish. While the new French oak is responsible for a lot of the flavor, I’m still expecting that there’s some additives topping this off. But this is a fun choice to introduce American bourbon and cognac drinkers to the sweeter side of tequila. I’ll be serving this up to some tequila skeptic friends soon, and I’m guessing they’ll love it.
Interesting as many NOM1146 older expressions are. Vibrant barrel spice and a looong finish make this XA an interesting if expensive bottle from the brand owners and Señor Fonseca.
Sweet Artificial
Tastes like a Werthers original soft candy. Butterscotch and vanilla.
You open the bottle and the sweet floral smell of agave hits you, when you pour let it breath a little and it opens up to vanilla and butterscotch with a hint of agave. On the tip of the tongue it’s a little spicy like it was aged in oak barrels but very smooth going down with a lot of agave flavor, if you like bourbon this is a good sip for you!
Very good
Very rich vanilla taste. The finish gives a sweet yet mellow hint of agave. I would definitely have this tequila available on a evening get together with my closest friends.
Aroma - heavy sweet notes of vanilla, caramel, dark cherry, chocolate, butter Flavor - oily, the sweetness fades to an oak taste and peppery heat Finish - heat come fast and fades just as quickly. The lasting impression doesn’t match the pleasant aroma setup. I think this is a decent anejo. It seems to get a bad rap but unfortunately it is way overpriced.
I love this Tequila!!!
Super cheesy vanilla nose. No agave in it. The taste is the real let down. No agave, a little vanilla Diet Coke, and this TERRIBLE astringent flavor that dominates. The finish is pretty good, so there’s that. But for me, this would get used as drain cleaner only.
best tequila I've ever had. and the smoothest.
Just pure candy.. if that’s what you’re into it’s one of the best. Really the only thing I’ve found better for this flavor profile would be la mandala XA.
best served cool, not cold. body heat on the tongue brings huge flavor to the pallet. value wise, I prefer the silver. XA wise, I prefer the 11 year old. overall, a decent Tequila. a bit pricey, however.
Wow. This Tequila rings in a lot of memories from Clase Azul, yet still has its own profile. The nose and flavor pack the same strong vanilla, Carmel, butterscotch, and oak, while all gently balanced, none overpowering the other, while the finish brings a very gentle bitterness that wraps the flavors in to bring this Tequila to a great product. Pepper, cooked Agave, and very subtle cinnamon, are also present. The price point is very high, but for those who truly appreciate Tequila, they’ll realize you can’t get this flavor because of the process and effort put into this bottle, it has to be priced appropriately. This is not something to shoot, not to mix, but to sip every so often as it should sit on the shelf for only the special occasions. I’d rebuy this over and over, as this is a top shelf bottle for a very reasonable price, considering the process put for this bottle. Easy 100/100, highly recommended.
A bit too sweet. A definite winner for someone with a sweet tooth.
Warm Sugar Roasted Marshmallows Butter Smooth finish Slight warming of the tongue
so, so butterscotchy and warm on the nose...all memories of young agave disappear. Hands down mine & the TequilaSnobs' favorite.
Big vanilla, cotton candy, and caramel scents with a bit of chocolate as well. Just way too sweet for my palette.
I purchased the BOGO deal they had going on.
What an amazing tequila...and a really odd bottle. It's difficult to convince people that it's a premium one before they've tried it...strictly because it's being poured out of something that looks like you bought it an adult novelties store.

NOM 1146 revisited March 1, 2023 after several years to see how my palate changed. I used to enjoy this tequila 12 yrs ago during my early stages of agave sipping. I did not enjoy this tonight. it was too sweet, like cake batter sweet. not for me. but, I see how newbies might enjoy it.
