I expect natural variation in batches, and I assume the bottle I have is from a different batch than others who identify a malolactic aroma. Mine has no malo funk at all (although I enjoy a little malo). I get aromas of wine, honey, orange, cooked agave, oak and a little cinnamon. On the palate I get orange citrus, some sweetness of cooked agave, fruit like cherry, and cinnamon. Let this open up and enjoy the variety and complexity.
On the nose: It’s a bomb of honey, from there the wine barrel notes come through, its fruity, floral, agave forward. It’s a huge bomb of flavor on the nose On the pallet: The honey and cooked agave dance together wonderfully! The honey is for sure leading with cooked agave coming in 2nd, the floral notes, barrel notes, wine essence, a little grapefruit, its flavor on flavor. I keep being blown away by Cambio. At this price point, with these flavors, this bottle is a no-brainer! I’ve now had their full line up and each stand out to me. I love that their reposado isn’t just their añejo but less time in the barrel. They are using 2 completely different barrels for this repo. It’s intentional. It’s curated. Of course it comes from the mind of John De Rosiers! This is a chefs tequila.
I absolutely loved the Cambio Añejo and now I am tasting this repo, hoping the wine casks and French Oak don’t ruin it for me. Neither of these are typically barrel aging that I like. I completely understand this is a personal preference and that many love both of these. With my biases laid before you, here are my thoughts. On the nose I get those barrel notes that I’d expect from French Oak and Wine Casks. I also get a decent amount of agave. I get banana and cinnamon. It is fruity. On the palate, sweet cooked agave, barrel spices, fruits, vanilla, honey. Again, not my profile but I can see how some may really love this.
Nose: Carmel, Oak, Honey, Agave, Raisin Palate: Honey, Cinnamon, Butterscotch, Nutmeg Finish: Honey, Caramel, Vanilla, Oak, Clove This is a great repo. It is incredibly unique, rich, and full of character. I see this being a very polarizing bottle for that reason.
This one is up there for me. So much funky malo but done well. Priced very well. This brand should be on everyone’s radar

L 1RE46CA - 001 16/02/2023 Color: med golden with thin edge. Initial nasal impact: warming with slight prickle. Aroma: cooked agave, dried pineapple, caramel, green banana, oak, wine barrel, dry toast with orange marmalade. Mouthfeel: drying with generous alcohol. Flavor: cooked agave, pepper, barrel spice, baking spice, orchard fruit, vanilla, spearmint (especially found on the retro nasal), caramel, tangerine. The wine casks are present on a medium long finish.
This one will be polarizing. A lot of funk on the nose with some berry sweetness from French oak. Unusual flavor of bananas, cheese, citrus, maybe a little almond. Finishes a bit hotter than the blanco but still an easy ride for an overprooof. Intriguing reposado and worth trying.
Aroma/Taste: The initial aroma hints at malolactic fermentation, with intriguing notes of Cotija cheese, banana, cooked agave, citrus, and raw yeasty dough. Upon tasting, the flavor profile unfolds with cooked agave, a blend of baking spices, and a touch of vanilla. The barrel aging tempers the lactic funk, resulting in a unique character. Finish: The finish offers a combination of cinnamon and black pepper, but there’s a slight harshness accompanied by a raw agave and solvent punch at the very end. Overall: While not my personal favorite, this tequila intrigues with its divergence between the initial aroma and the subsequent taste experience.
Blind tasting AF Rep samples: Very different. It’s very pungent with a lot of character and funkiness that will not be as pleasing to most palates. I really fell in love with all the flavor. Mushrooms, leather, hay, tangerine & light floral notes. It smells like it tastes. I kept coming back to this sample because it was so different. I rated it as my highest.
Nose- fruity, caramel, cinnamon, agave and slight licorice Taste- On the pallet this one is a little hot not in a bad way. With cinnamon upfront, fruitiness, vanilla and white pepper there’s a slight earthy note that also comes through and last all the way to the end. The way the fruitiness like pitted fruit and vanilla blends together really shines in this one.
Blind rating on 3/25/2024 Aroma: cinnamon at first followed by red fruit. There’s a bit of a spicy aroma along with a cedar/forest wood note. Get a little earthiness too and some baking spice. Kind of reminiscent of the faint smell of Banana bread in the oven. Flavor: interesting fruity dry sweetness. Tropical fruit and some baking spice again. That spicy note pops up again although I can’t put my finger on what it is exactly. There’s a dry sweetness that reminds me of rum. Finish: long with a more fruit forward element. Minimal burn in the lower chest.
Barrel on nose with a sweetness. Palate is enjoyable but didn’t love the finish. Overall was happy with this one. Tasted with AF 2024 Blind Repo.
Nose - Agave, oak, minerals, white pepper, dark cherry/fruit, nutmeg Taste- Agave, vegetal, earth, dark fruit, oak, herbs, mint, Something I'm not a fan of decent mouth feel Tasting 2 Nose - Agave, Funk, citrus, oak, mushroom, olive, Taste- Agave, cheese, vegetal, soil, dark cherry, mint Tasting 3 Nose - Agave, cheese, oak, vinegar, olive, honey, fruits, orange peel, wet forest Taste - Agave, spice, Pepper, olive, vanilla, minerals, spearmint , this one has been one of the 2 toughest
Tasted blind. Strong aroma—something like cordials candy with a chocolate shell and cherry liqueur inside. Cherry and orange flavor with a thick mouthfeel. Revisited and glad I did. Raising my score. Also had some of their small batch Cellar Series which were my favorite of the lineup!
Cedar wood and resin on the nose. Sipping from a Glencairn brings sweet agave brulee and a great ethanol kick which leads to a whole tongue tingle and a slow sweet finish. Tasted as part of 2024 AF Reposado blind. My highest score given.
Blind- Medium color. Sweet agave stands out in the aroma with hints of anise and citrusy lemon zest. Taste is in line with the aroma and it’s a clean finish.
Overall - "funky." Aroma - vegetal. Flavor - no sweetness, no vanilla, no wood/oak - hint of lactic. Finish - slight bitterness comes thru.
This one has the color of champagne or white wine N- green agave, dusty air, hay, vegetal, sliced bell pepper T- honey, vanilla, baked agave, jalapeno MF- thin F- long lingering heat
tasted in panel blind repo tasting 03/2024 was a little too funky for me revisited thanks to a sample Pepe sent me. glad I revisited. I'm liking it a lot more than in the blind samples I did a few months ago, especially the palate and finish. Its less malolactic, nose has some yeast, liking the palate and finish. Lots of barrel spices and agave. so I modified my rating
In progress
Nose: agave, barrel notes, spearmint, caramel, butterscotch, dried fruit, orange zest, earthy, funky, pine, and honey Flavor: cooked agave, coconut, floral, notes of crème brûlée, barrel notes, cheesy funk, and light spice Finish: long, starts out with cooked agave and ends with white pepper spice
A: creamy, grape, wine, red fruits, plum T: silky smooth texture, hot, peppery, wood very diverse profile for a reposado. most unique I've tasted
I was really impressed by the immediate nose on this and the flavor profile was outstanding, terrific mouth feel and I will be looking for this once it gets to NJ so I can have the other expressions.

Cambio’s Reposado had a substantial amount of barrel characteristics. Although, it did take a bit to open up, I found much & more to latch onto. After a bit of teasing a delicious butterscotch candy came through on the nose & palate. In addition, I found carmel, grapeskin, plum, date, citrus, minerality, perfume, red current, mint, prune, cherry jam, saline, malolactic notes and oak spice. The finish was excellent, although slightly drying. This Reposado is unlike any tequila I have tasted thus far. The combination of the unique barrels & base distillate gives this Reposado exceedingly high marks.
